I love that posts currently can’t be deleted or edited.

More authentic.

Amen!

🤙🏾

But you can mute/disable users @jack?

~charisma_ni_zandro

bad history remains forever, image our kids' social network they will see their stupid young post forever

i mean if they could be deleted they wouldn’t really disappear. once it hits the internet it lives forever. right?

That seems wrong. I’d like to talk to the manager of the internet please.

Immutable.

Just like Bitcoin.

Makes you think twice before saying something, like in real life! Love it! 🐶🐾🫡🫂💕

True. I've backspaced many a retort.

👀😅

🤙🏾👏🏾🤙🏾

Iris allows deleting of one's posts.

Amethyst can request relays to delete notes.

And the 3 most popular relay implementations all support NIP-09 (event deletion). Not really sure why we keep repeating that posts can’t be deleted.

There is truth of course to the idea that you don’t know if a relay is truly deleting the event from disk even if they tell you they are. You also don’t know what other relays have stored that event and there could be many that you don’t even know about syncing from other relays.

Wondering about our European friends. Would think that relay operators in the EU would be bound by the GDPR laws. Meaning a node operator in the EU, would need to remove a user's data on request. I'm not an expert on this topic though.

I've since been informed that such options are client-specific only, that while a post may be deleted on Iris, it still exists in the rest of the Nostrverse.

It's a "request deletion" operation. Depends on each relay of they will honor it. Best to assume once broadcast it stays "out there" somewhere.

I find that suboptimal and confusing.

💜 #[0]

you can post a deletion event. it is up to relay to really delete. most implementations will honor delete event as far as I know.

Should be a fee to delete or edit. No free grammar mistakes

My typos are all over the place

People are by default imperfect but still I hate the fact typos stay where they are :)

🧡🗝️

It’s good for writing skills

Agreed!

What you say and what you do. Own it

Words are meant to be like crumpling a piece of paper. They leave a wrinkle that cant ever be smoothed out. It should remain as such.

Yeah like my gun’s serial number 😆🤣🤣

Typos are foreber

Buddha Nostrih approves your message, #[1]

Preach

I’m a proponent of making the notes and reactions immutable

🙌🏽🙌🏽

#[0]

ok but why we can't pin the post?

#[4]

I never liked this about Twitter and feel the same about nostr.

i can delete posts, my relay allows it

Immutability matters.

no ragrets

Reminds me of getting a tattoo of your “current” girlfriend’s name

but i make lots of typos

Oh, Jack, I hate to disagree. I'm sure your more detail oriented than I. Nothing drives me crazier than seeing that simple error I cannot fix.

It is a great feature.

It helped me reflect on myself today and realize some things I need to work on.

No deleting or undoing, just like bitcoin.

It should stay this way.

Could this be an issue with GDPR?

It should be designed in such a way that even if it is breaking gdpr rules, they can't be enforced. Permanent record shouldn't be an issue however. There is a forum that won't delete users nor their posts, for the sake of being a public record. They are 20 years old and operate as a business within the EU and supposedly within the GDPR rules.

Let's just hope the app stores don't give people in the EU a problem. Would be great if clients could be upgraded though the protocol itself.

Life is append-only

Indeed

No.

"Who control the present, control the past" - 1984

I wouldn’t get too used to it. We’re incorporating Kind 5 events for post deletion on Imp Chat. 😎✌🏽

Yes

Edit button when ser?

It’s really sharpened up my spelling.

Interesting

Not a bug, a feature

It’s awesome for people like me who’ve never had a typo and never will

Until I misspellll 😔

I see a "request deletion" option.

Hardcore commitment 😀

As it should be

That’s why I try not to mess up and always proofread. 🤣

It certainly makes one put in more care and to double check the grammar.

Agreed.🤙

Philosophical i agree. But the spell check struggle is real. It’s all I can do to maintain the veneer of a literate person.

No i didn’t drop the ‘ly’ on purpose.

I really like this feature, not being able to delete posts is the best feature, although it will send the wrong thing, but this is our daily life.

The data on the chain records all the love and hatred of this account, so that it is in line with a metaverse digital clone, so posting will be more cautious, even if it is an anonymous account, what is in this string of private keys represents who you are Yes, this is the #Nostruniverse

web2's products all hope to erase data, because it needs packaging, marketing, and even fraud, but in #Nostruniverse you can be the truest you, joy, sorrow, joy, love and hate are all you. You can be anonymous, but don’t do evil. This is all on the chain, which will destroy the account you operate. This string of private keys represents you.

This is the real Metaverse #Nostruniverse ,where technology moves toward positive good.

#[3]

💯

Yup

It is a gift and a curse!

But you can delete them on snort.social

🤙, but some relays can offer high-priced deletions.

一言既出 駟馬難追

Though 'disappearing notes' would be a great feature to enhance Nostr's privacy.

People gets cancelled for what they said in 2008.

And also you never know when your speech will be used against you.

Nostr Idea: Disappearing Notes

1. If a relay can be set up that wipes out particular events like notes in X period (say 1 month) of time, it increases privacy on Nostr.

2. As it's not a blockchain any post shouldn't be there forever. Just like Telegram or Signal, having the option of disappearing messages (notes) will be a great feature.

3. This also makes that relay efficient as all old notes is wiped out periodically keeping the total size of relay limited enough so it becomes more cost efficient.

Like real life. No take backs

Same like Bitcoin

It really makes u think about what you're gonna write. Less BS posts. More quality.

Personal responsibility

Just like herpes

When edit button... Oh wait 😂

optional 30 second delay on clients?

User would like to recall note:\\ 😂

Not recall, just count to 30, before send

I understand. but the joke was in the recall.

Why finance Nostr and Bluesky with the same features?

They aren’t the same

Billion Dollar Idea a Nostr client for prestigious schools I present to you ZapFace ⚡️😵

Is there a comparison table?

Nostr is a Protocol

Bluesky is a Client

/end

“The AT Protocol is a networking technology created by Bluesky to power the next generation of social applications.”

What is AT, and what is it better at than nostr?

DIDs

key rotation

Great naming btw

Try googling AT protocol )))

invite list

Is Bluesky better than Nostr ?

Elsewhere they even pay for editing.✍️ 😬

True. Controlled end to end.

Hey Jack, please check your DM’s! 🙏

Is nostr the new public record?

Welcome to the cyber jungle..

Big facts if you don’t like what you previously posted DOESNT MATTER GET BETTER

Optional "preview note" before sending would be helpful though for more complex messages. To check how the media integrates etc.

People are taking notice of your post.

Added to the https://member.cash/hot feed

FBI warning ⚠️

You have the right to remain silent, but anything you say will be used against you in a court of law.

Yup I have to own all my misspellings.

Such is life

i was confused for a sec

Maybe it’s best that it remains that way

Fuck you

Hate it tbh

Often forget to add context, don’t like how it’s formatted, and/or make stupid grammatical and spelling errors that bother me 😅

Fat finger retweeting or liking is way too easy.

Looks like on Amethyst, you can now delete likes.

#[1] actually it’s a matter of implementation. In the snort.social client you can delete posts.

But only if all your relays also allow deletion

It means taking the responsibility on what you say loud

+1

currently?

It makes you really pay attention to spelling and such

journalists should use Nostr for publishing along with Nostr API that makes it possible to subscribe (paid or free) to these posts

Nostr client should support roaming discovery for ad-hoc networks (when internet is disabled)

delete and edit sucks. BUT, an additional text should be appendeable…: ”ive change my mind” / ”still stand by what I wrote”.. ie make Nostr friendly to a public discussion where people can change oppinion (but not fake history)

True that!

Hey Jack

I guess, edit with an option to see history would be more effective. There would be scenarios, where you made a mistake accidently and would want to recfify.

oc.app/?ref=or23m-5yaaa-aaaaf-agkxa-cai

Try OpenChat, compare iris to see which one is better and anti-censorship

Still trying to understand where posts are kept. Are they stored in the relays? 🙄
