Happy to have my node go down every now and then. At least i can sleep at night knowing someone else can’t just rug pull me unilaterally. Every business should run their own node, just hopefully one with a more reliable and redundant power supply 😅
At least when my node goes down my money doesn’t get stolen like what will happen with 80% of these random mints.

Realistically every business will not run their own node. They’re more likely to use something like what nostr:npub1jugar2agq6369p0l86razavs9shj2p6pscxecevs8j94ap37hkqsjlfc28 is building with their SDK and Greenlight to settle payments on Liquid. Why? Because it’s less of a headache and operational risk for them.
You're only right if development stagnates & the world monetary infrastructure doesn't implode.
How does that equate to development stagnating, though? There’s a lot of work being done on second layer scaling and it’s not all about everyone in the world running Lightning nodes. And I say this as someone who runs a node. It just isn’t practical for most people.

You’re right that it won’t be like it is today, because it can’t be. There isn’t enough on-chain capacity for everyone to have their own channel.
Running a node is not that complicated. It’s like running a web server. If a company can setup a webserver they can setup a node. Just hire a few IT people. Nice thing is that you can do accounting directly out of your node.
Occasionally consolidate to cold store if you’re worried about the node going down or something if thats the risk.
I suspect in the future there will be jobs specifically for this. It would be like an IT/accounting job. This is kinda what i’ve been doing at all the previous companies i’ve worked for. Bitcoin accounting or bitcoin IT
This was my startup before working on damus. Just run a lightning node on prem and get tons of accounting and merchant tools without installing lots of software. It was just a client for core lightning. Wish i could get back to that one day

Unless they have a reason not to, I imagine most companies would opt to outsource their website hosting and maintenance. It’s probably going to be the same thing for running nodes, but we aren’t even at the point where any companies that aren’t run by hardcore bitcoiners run their own. Joe’s Hardware store on the corner isn’t going to set up a Start9 in the back behind the key cutting machine.
Running a Nostr node on nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll and would love to have a GUI for configuring all protocol options and all aspects of node server performance on that Start9 marketplace installed node. This would make running a simple, small scale node for an individual (or smaller entity) super simple, and set up however they prefer within the protocol capabilities.

The relay that is currently packaged for s9 is kinda 💩 tbh. I will package up a new one once the clearnet stuff is released, but for now it's not worth it and I'm packaging up clients
First off, is it against nostr etiquette to butt into other people's conversations? If so, please ignore, if not, do you mind spitting out some of your wisdom? For personal use, do you have anything against self-hosting Albyhub? I have seen a few negative things about alby now and yesterday during the zapathon, something happened between my channel or alby and zaps didn't go through. I have my own bitcoin node running and have setup a lightning node before, but didn't want to deal with channel management and albyhub made that easy. Tried start9 and umbrel and i hate the whole super managed os approach. I like running stuff in docker or vms and be able to dig in if needed. Thanks!
Start9 is lit, you can always ssh and do whatever you want.
I run it inside proxmox. But you can run whatever you want, but lxcs have been better than docker lately.

Just a follow up question if you don't mind. Would you consider start9 a hardened OS? If not, would it be best to just download a hardened linux or freeBSD image and set everything up manually. I really want to dip my toes back in and am thinking I will order some separate hardware to put that on and keep it segregated from everything else on my network. That would make me feel a bit more secure about it. I want to know how @jb55 has his node setup. Looked around for a video or talk but didn't find anything immediately. If he has gone this long safely, he must be doing something right.
Self host on start9 for a year and then see you actually use it. Then sync time in to run everything separate.
Not at all. And I absolutely love nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm Hub. I run two myself and have also set them up for friends and even a local business.
It’s a great alternative to running a fully-featured Lightning node if all you need is reliable payments.
I’d love to see as many people run nodes as possible, and I even started a group to help. It’s just that I don’t really expect this will be the norm for mass adoption, at least not until it’s truly plug-and-play, and the on-chain footprint problems are solved.

I already run a node but can't be bothered to do channel management. I'm a farmer and devops engineer, managing channels is not what I want to do.
Ecash works for me as a circular economy for nostr stuff. I sell $150 of meat to nostriches, then I buy $150 worth of chrsitmas/Easter gifts. 90% of the time I never have more than $50 in there.
