Has anyone experienced any bad side effects from taking melatonin gummies? I’ve been taking one a night for a few weeks and they’ve been great. Falling asleep pretty quickly even sleeping on the floor and I’ve been dreaming more than usual.
Discussion
They are absolutely fucking useless my friend. It is now 5AM UK Time, I am an insomniac. Melatonin gummies🤔??😂😂😂😂. I can take INDUSTRIAL strength sleeping tablets and still not sleep!!
Could be a placebo effect, but they’ve been working for me so I keep taking them. Just wondering about the downsides. I’ve never really had a problem with insomnia. I just started taking them to see if they would improve my sleep.
Just don't rely on them too heavily because they will fuck up your natural sleep rhythm.
I don’t really need them. Just started taking them to see if they’d improve my sleep.
I heard that eating those things for a while have this super common side-effect where you have to send Noshole all your sats.
I use them when I travel, it help with Jet Lag. Melatonin is something your body makes naturally, just less over time. While it is technically possible to OD on anything, I have never had any side effects. Whole Foods sells drops tat work even faster.
I have tried them but have had no strong feelings. Have also heard negative things. I’ve also heard cherry juice helps… also no strong feelings but seems healthy.
Heard somewhere melatonin sleep helpers not good for you 🤷♂️
But why tho? So far I haven’t experienced any noticeable downsides.
I don’t recall exactly. Something about messing with your natural patterns
when you stop taking them your body won't generate as much melatonin as it used to, since it thinks the melatonin is already there, as it has been for x amount of time of you taking it. I wouldn't recommend buying more personally but ofc you can do what you want good sir
Yeah something along these lines. You basically acclimate your body to extra melatonin and then can’t get off it.
Or something like that. Seems true, my wife can’t sleep without it now. I avoid like the plague.
she can get her baseline production back up but she will have to follow a strict 0 coffee, observing sunrise and sunset every single day for at least 1 month. then she will start to feel alright again, I'm sure she will cringe at the suggestion but let her know that's an option😂
They work well for a couple days and then they don't work anymore. So I can only take them occasionally
i like em
If you take them too often, your body won't be able to produce it naturally and you will depend on them to sleep.
So they say
I take them from time to time and they are awesome, but you might get sort of “resistance” if doing it everyday, then you will have to take more and more to get the same effects and result.
Is like anything else really, I would take a break and just take them every now and then, or when you really really need them
I have taken p high doses of melatonin (20-40mg/night) with no negative effects. Melatonin production doesnt have a negative feedback loop so supps will not affect your production. I am gonna get shit for saying this because everyone always says the opposite, but it is this guy's work.

A quick literature review seems to point out that most negative effects appear in pre-adult long-term users. However many studies call for caution due to the lack of serious, independent, double-blind studies.
Personally, I'd be cautious with using it on a daily basis for prolonged periods. Generally speaking, using hormonal supplements isn't the safest route for chronic treatments.
A doctor told me to take a very small amount 1 - 2 hours before going to bed. It will not make you fall asleep but it will signal your brain that it’s time to make your own melatonin
Melatonin can work. Don’t take gummies though- for any supplements or medicine. Just take the pill or powder, the fewer additives the better.
Studies on the long term effects of continued use aren’t conclusive (last time I checked anyway). Obviously it’s best to also consider other factors and aids. Check out examine.com for their helpful meta analysis of multiple studies.
Melatonin also works as an antioxidant and is particularly good for eye health. It can be taken during the day without causing drowsiness.
Do you drink coffee during the day? If yes just quit coffee completely, try replacing it with matcha. See if you like it.
Then you will have energy during the day, but when it is time to sleep you will not have troubles.
You train yourself a lot, try not to train yourself in the 3 hours before going to sleep.
Screens might also be a factor, just use nightlight mode on the laptop or phone after 21:00.
THEY LOWER TESTASTERONE LEVELS
did you experience this personally? most responses have not been anecdotal which is what i was looking for. also, i've only been popping 5 mg a night so not too much. just doing an experiment. probably not going to continue long term, but i do plan to use it to help with jet lag.
not personally, just heard stories
You will need to have them to sleep if you continue using it.
If you don't have them or forget to take them, your body wont produce it naturally anymore and you're fucked
Only good as a temp solution
Did this happen to you? I hear a bunch of people say this, but have still yet to talk to anyone who has taken melatonin supplements and has had this happen to them.
