Announcing my new nostr:npub1235tem4hfn34edqh8hxfja9amty73998f0eagnuu4zm423s9e8ksdg0ht5 guide!

Reclaiming some mobile phone privacy no longer requires crappy hardware, unacceptable trade-offs or command line knowledge.

Install Graphene in under 10 minutes with just a laptop and a web browser. Learn how👇

https://bitcoiner.guide/grapheneos

This isn't just a guide on how to install @GrapheneOS

, it's full walk through of everything you need to know before removing Apple or Google from your mobile life.

The guide covers:

- Tips on easing the transition

- The install process

- How to customize GrapheneOS

- The various different methods you can install apps

- An extensive list of Apple/Google app alternatives

- An honest discussion about the GrapheneOS trade-offs

- Sandboxed Google Play Services

- eSims and 'Profiles'

- Backups

I hope you enjoy reading this one as much as I enjoyed writing it. If you do, please give the guide a share so more people can learn about Graphene and opt out of the surveillance software they carry with them every day.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, get in touch.

I thought you had to have a pixel phone

You do. Read the guide 😜

Thanks for the great guide!

Here are some additions you could make:

- Sensors, network, scoped storage and scoped contacts permissions are unique to GrapheneOS, so it would make sense to mention them briefly.

- Your IMEI is exposed to Google during e-SIM provisioning. The e-SIM must be installed from the owner profile. After installation, you can delete Google Play Services again.

- For system-wide ad-blocking, AdGuard DNS can be used by setting `dns.adguard-dns.com` as the Private DNS domain.

Thanks! Do you fancy making a pull request? Would love to add you to the contributors list!

A nice one. For the eSim it would be good to install the sandboxed google services into another profile

I believe the eSIM must be installed from the Owner profile?

Owner profile -> work profile

Care to elaborate?

I dont want it in my main profile 😃

But tbh I dont use eSims as I have a NoKYC sim card

Yeah that's what I'm saying, I don't think you have a choice with eSIM

I love GrapheneOS. Even I can use it. And I'm retarded.

Not possible with Linux Pop_OS, right?

What do you exactly mean? 🤗

You can not flash ur pixel (grapheneos) with the popOS linux distro

Try the web installer? Should be fine.

It works with web installer. Have done it 5+ times. Pixel 3, 5, 7.

If I recall it never worked unless web install.

It works with popOS linux distro? Not here with web installer or terminal

Crazy... Something weird udev stuff? Using archlinux and everything went fine. 😊

yeah, its working fine with a windows pc too (my Pixel 7) but now i can‘t flash my pixel 6a with my new linux device 😅

Perhaps use the web installer on your Pixel 7 to flash the 6a?

No man, im trying the web installer and terminal… are you using popOS?

With Linux Pop_OS you are here forever

Good Morning Nostr 🧡⚡

ICYMI, I announced my latest (and longest ever) guide yesterday. This one shows you the ins and outs of the awesome nostr:npub1235tem4hfn34edqh8hxfja9amty73998f0eagnuu4zm423s9e8ksdg0ht5 🔥

Really needed this as I’m on the verge of moving from iPhone to Pixel. Now I’m not afraid to go directly Graphene 💜

What’s your experience with Nostr on Graphene so far?

So good! Very different apps, and a level of control of your data you cannot imagine

No issues whatsoever. Feel free to DM if you need any help making the switch.

Thank you!

#Amethyst works great on #GrapheneOS

Thanks, great guide!🙏😁💜😆👍

Might just push me over the edge to do this...🤔🧐😳🤣😂👍

Do it! I'm here if you need have any questions.

Why, Thank you, Fren!

Cheers and GN.🙏😁💜😆👍

Nice! Thank's for all your work!

🙏

I'd already made the switch but still a good read. Enjoy all 21 sats bruv 🐇🕵💛

👊

I’m getting my first Android device next week and will definitely be checking this out. Thanks!

Let me know how you get on!

It was really helpful! I especially like the app recommendations. Many I had heard of but many were new to me. I did get tripped up trying to use Safari and Firefox at first. It felt dirty having to use Chrome and I saw your note that “Chrome, Edge or Brave will work fine” but maybe if it said “You have to use a Chromium browser” it would’ve saved me a few minutes. Thanks for the great resource!

Good idea. Fancy making a PR? Would love to add a new face to the contributors list.

Will do!

Best OS ever.

Impressive guide! Makes me want to buy a pixel just to play around with it.

bookmarked, thanks ⚡️

No more apple for you huh?

Already on android. Using already ~80% of the apps which are mentioned in the guide - therefore i might not miss much 🤷‍♂️😉

But this gave me final clarity as I was evaluating the switch for quite some time now.

Yeah I on the fence about making this jump. Be cool if this worked on the Galaxy Z flip 5

Is has its reasons why its only working on pixel. 💪

But i feel you. But this way you have a backup phone at home or some extra cash ;)

Appreciate the sats my friend

I’m a zap addict I can’t help myself

Will spread it wisely 🫡⚡

Is there a good or recommended way to backup or transfer your settings for apps if you're still on stock android? I've been using my phone for 2 years and would like an easy way to backup and restore some things on the graphene side without having to start from scratch.

I'm not aware of anything for global settings like that. Some apps will have their own backup that's tied to a recovery phrase or account, but of course that's on a per-app basis.

Take the step as an opportunity to prune your digital footprint and cut ties with the services you don't really need/use.

A fair and needed reframing of the thought. Thank you

Added to my bookmark, thanks! 🤙💜🫂

Android Auto can be enabled, if you want.

It can now yeah, not when I wrote the guide 👍
