There are some accounts who have great content, but flood my feed when followed

It would be great if there was a way to limit their posts in my feed based on duration like a soft mute

But I suppose that’s what DVM algorithms and the feed marketplace can fix

Yeah unfortunately that sort of conduct results in hitting the unfollow button...

Yes this is a feature I’ve wanted for a long time. Rate limit users so that only x-number of posts per user show in my feed per hour, or something like that.

I forgot the term “Rate Limit” so I invented “Soft Mute”

It works 😂 “Soft mute” reminded me of a feature in Nostur that lets you temporarily mute someone for a period of time and then they automatically unmute. It’s very useful for moments when someone starts rapidly posting or reposting several notes.

We call that “timeout” where I’m from

Appropriate feature name lol

100% agree with this. I'm reluctant to mute or unfollow people that I like, but a "don't show any more notes from this npub for 12 hours" would be a huge improvement to my feed.

Algo relay fixes this ;) only one top post per author per feed

Help me understand Algo Relays

Why is this preferred over DVM feeds?

Right now I understand that my client pings relays for events and organizes them into a feed

Currently clients expect multiple relays to be connected and most don’t permit you to filter your feed based on a relay

What’s your vision on this?

Clients need to allow you to browse the content on individual relays in addition to your follow feed

All clients pretty much just do one thing right now (chronological follow feed), need to break out of the paradigm

100% agree on the need to break out of the paradigm

But why Algo Relay over Algo DVMs?

An option to compress all the daily posts of selected profiles/users into one single post with a "show more..." button, absolutely would be my favored solution.

💯, I usually don't follow meme accounts for this exact reason. If their memes are good enough, people will repost

That doesn't give you their publications that are high signal to you.

This and many other blunt algo's have been proposed.

They all miss the point by never imagining anything else than feeds and follows.

Nothing solves for this more than communities do.

Only want so see my design stuff and not my ramblings on old-world buildings?

👉 Design communities it is

Communities are the algo's most people crave for.

The places where the admins can let the GM's and small talk happen in the chat and let their high signal niche content flourish in the posts, articles, videos, wikis, emoji packs...

Agreed, I also want more community focused applications with smaller, more niche groups

Aha, yup, I see.

I think you might like what I'm building then 🤗

Nice! What are you building?

Is it live somewhere I can check out?

:Zapchat: Zapchat, a Community app.

I'll let you when it's live.

Honestly one of my favorite gifs of all time

Yeah. Imagine that combined with web of trust. I could see new people posting and not just the loudest of us here. That would greatly extend my opportunity to meet new people and if I really like what they post, I could see their whole stack of posts and maybe follow them

Ok ok, I’ll cut back….😅

I like this one

Agreed. On damus, it really annoys me that I see the same repost sometimes 4 times in a row.

Repost?

Another repost?

Yeah like if Odell says GM stay free and then 6 people I follow all repost it. My feed is just Odell. Don’t need to see that 6 times, please consider changing this nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s

Reposting for visibility

Switching to primal so I don’t have to see your spam

Confirmed

Repost

Sats is the notifications client.

Maybe you follow too many people who follow Odell. Diversify your follower portfolio, mahdood

His name is MANHOOD

🎯

😂

Thats what i have been doing. Muted odell and unfollow people who repost him. But i agree we should remove duplicate reposts

Adding it to my list this week

Damus is fucking goated 🫡

I was so right about Damus. Me for the win 🏆

Primal is cool but I’ve been bitching about the same issue for months now with them and it hasn’t been addressed. If Will fixes this issue then I use his client more and zap him 🤷‍♂️

Primal is the coinbase of nostr. Whoever said this originally fucking nailed it

(Noh i cannot explain why exactly)

Probably me but whatevs

They have a lot of shiny toys and it’s impressive. But half the time it just doesn’t work right. Damus has its shortcomings but it never breaks and just works. I always end up back on damus.

I think the main issue is the confusion of what our apps are. It’s comparing apples to oranges. Damus is a nostr client. primal is a client for a centralized, proprietary api that uses nostr as a data source. This api can go down. nostr can’t go down, and neither can Damus.

Last sentence is pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

So the coinbase of nostr then 😂

This will always be funny. Always. Laugh every time.

Damus from Day 1. #Damus FTW!

Holy gets it. 👆

This should just be an option to remove duplicate reposts. I have nothing against reposts, they serve a purpose.

You can just group them together. Like it could say this was reposted by 5 others.

Maybe something in that direction, but not in a way that undermines the purpose of reposting.

A repost should move that note up chronologically in the feed. It only needs to be there once.

Is damous okay on ios?

GM

That feels like it could be addressed with client side hashing of the note's contents and then deduplication. It might be a little more processor intensive but I'd not imagine it to be TOO bad on performance. Especially if it's only done on notes that are marked as reposts.

That's more of a client decision of how to arrange content.

I wanted a client that did something like this: https://github.com/terhechte/Ebou

> Ebou is a different take on the Microblogging / Mastodon experience. It groups new Toots by author and displays them in a UI not unlike modern messengers like Telegram, iMessage or WhatsApp.

Of course this specific software, as most things written in Rust, was never finished and is already abandoned, but the idea is great.

reminds me of an old app called peach https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peach_(social_network)

The most annoying thing is that there is one decent legitimate note between 20 spam / junk / or foreign language notes.

English is a foreign language for many people, too!

100%. That’s a fair point, that’s the least annoying one. It’s more so the garbage not posts etc

the nostr algorithm fixes this

This is a problem I also have daily, and I proposed a solution several months ago: a view where there is only one row for every user for the last X hours (e.g. 12), containing only the last note and at the bottom some synthetic but meaningful data about the hidden notes (count, total reactions/zaps). The user can be expanded to see all the notes.

genius. those might change the game.
