I wonder what percentage of people have never seen the real night sky, and only know the washed out imitation you see living in cities?

Gotta head out of the city once in a while.

Imho 90% of the people don't even notice the sky. Let's start there and even if they did, a good number of them think it's normal 🤣

My city sky is weird as fuck tonight. It’s been hella rainy and is glowing like a cobalt color. When I get in the country, it makes me appreciate the stars more.

Absolutely, you can see them there ✨

“Real”… you think the machines got the sky correct like tasty wheat?

Go to Big Bend, Texas, those night sky-deprived out there. It is one of the last dark sky refuges left.

I thankfully grew up on one, a ranch far from any large cities. I live close to one in Southern Alberta, and have lived and worked out there for stretches. The night sky still amazes me.

I love looking at the stars. So much so that we got a telescope a few years back for joint Christmas/anniversary/Valentine's gift. I want to go out in the middle of nowhere and lay in my hammock and stargaze all night.

As a kid I spent a lot of nights laying on the trampoline looking out at the milky way. It's beautiful.

I fall asleep watching the stars most nights.

It's insane how much you can't see when near cities & even small towns.

Agreed. I grew up in a dark area, and I surely miss the night sky living in the city now.

>95%?

In fact I just saw it here on this island this year. Im 37years old and I could have died already several times before i ever reached that point.

I've had friends from LA (where it never gets dark) come to my home town where individual stars can be seen in the milkyway. Btw, in grade school, I read that was impossible 🤣

I never realized how comfortable I was in the dark until I saw how they couldn't handle it. Then, they'd see the stars, and all panic would stop. They would become quite and manage to utter, "I never knew there were so many stars."

Until then, it never occurred to me before how much celestial light people miss while living in urban areas.

Being continually bathed in light is a pretty modern thing. Growing up I could flip two switches and be in a dark sky preserve. I can see it being unnerving if you weren't used to it.

I think it disconnects people from the reality we live in 💯
