Had an interesting exchange with a few PPL in a quite "woke" IT forum today. They think Nostr is a fad and Mastodon is the new Twitter, specifically mentioning "My bubble is now there". Has the extreme left forked off?

I don’t necessarily agree with everything in this thread (and that’s cool! 😜), but this comment is true for many things and it’s really sad.
It’s the same with privacy discussions as a society. Reddit has a few privacy subs where I spend my team when I’m not here. Whenever someone starts to talk about privacy the first response from normies is “what do you have to hide” or “so what Google has my location history 24/7 for the past 10 years?”. 😬
A few months ago Signal was even deemed by some to be used by “whites supremacists and bigots” because it was private yet at the same time many employers make WhatsApp a required tool for their staff. That’s fucked up.

Yes, it’s ridiculous. Every move, every thought published online now has to be documented and monitored (for ads or by government agencies). It’s terrible. And people don’t seem to care
Another example of #privacy being “criminalized” is email aliases. I have a unique email address for each site I give my email address (mostly for privacy and spam prevention) and a 15 yo teenager to whom I was recommending the approach asked me “Is that legal?”! lol

When people invest into a social network they will naturally be territorial. That's fine by me though. Nostr gets most of the free market oriented developers and Mastodon will have the rest. Fair and reasonable.
Mastodon is the new Twitter. Nostr is the new Mastodon. Nostr will take over once the user experience is ironed out.
Yeah. They love mastadon because it can be heavily moderated and they set the rules. Great for sensitive lefties. Not sure that level of moderation is even possible with nostr? Maybe possible through leftie relays?
Relays + clients yeah.
You can censor content on your relay, but users can easily switch to another relay by changing your relay list unlike Mastodon which requires a whole server migration process.

We ran mastodon the longest time. See its flaws. They’ll end up here eventually. They’ll figure it out.
Mastodon is far from the new twitter. Nostr is a much better UX overall.
