Fly, spin, deep sea? What kind are you trying to do?

Haha. Well, fly fishing is very different than spin. It’s much more technical and challenging. I would recommend going with a friend that knows what they are doing and gives you a casting lesson in an open field before going. A 5 weight rod and an Orvis level quality reel would be a good start. Always ask a local fly shop what’s hitting and listen to people that know the river. If you’re gonna do spin fishing, just buy a middle of the road spin reel and a medium weight spin rod. I would also recommend going out with someone that knows what they are doing to help you learn how to tie lures on and cast. Definitely go with someone that knows how to fish to a tackle shop and fill up a proper tackle box before going out. The rest is all just trial and error. Very heuristic.
Podcasts and music.
If you want to haul in catches in the ocean (with boat) I'd say watch birds in the sea, learn about ocean currents, sea mounts and upwellings in your area.

Patience. Changing one thing and trying again. Watching what everyone else at the spot you are fishing is doing. Talking to other people fishing at that spot.
Always a good time. It's a pretty cool and soulhealing hobby.

Every form of life seems to thrive on the edges. Find the edge and find the fish. Whether that is a change in current or change in depth or inflow of water.
Go to the edge & fish. Got it.
if using a bobber play around with different depths if you don’t know what you’re fishing for 🎣 and make sure your line is tidy in the reel
Find out what fish your local waters hold. Then find out what they eat. Then feed the fish that bait with a sharp metal surprise attached to a line.
THEN set the hook when they bite it and reel it in. Don’t let it get off.

Go fishing with somebody experienced in the waters you want to catch fish
Fly fishing is a nice meditation. Get a guide the first time.
Ask for advice from local shops about what they’re biting at different times of year.
River fish like to hide behind / under rocks and in pockets of calm water.
Barb pinching is the way to go.

If you enjoy sitting quietly by the water you won’t care if you catch anything.
Real advice: figure out what lives local to you, learn what bait they like and learn how sun, moon and tide effects their behaviour.

Every fish has it own habbits, food, place, leran this parameters and you will catch, some times.
Take a maggot as a bait, catch a small fish at the side of a lake. Will only take a few minutes. Then take that fish as a bait and catch a big fish. In my opinion the best way.
