Why is Nostr quite unpopular in the open source space?
I was at the FOSDEM conference and everyone was talking about Matrix, which is nowhere near Nostr in terms of polishness (in my opinion). I am not sure that people even knew Nostr there.
i think it's just early days, and it will gain momentum over time
Bitcoin and politics I'd say, I spend a lot of time on the Fediverse and no one says anything positive about the broader crypto scene, with good reason, most of it has been scams.
Nostr users tend more toward right wing Libertarian view points, Fediverse is more left.
Matrix is great - we've been using it as a slack / teams / discord dropin replacement for years

I'm not particularly impressed by bitcoin/crypto, but I do think decentralised social networks are incredible cool and powerful
that said, i do believe that the next generation of social networks will be multi-protocol with no winner takes all. Specialisation will likely happen both for social reasons (bluesky people dont often mix well with nostriches for example) as well as technical reasons
Agreed, I really dig Fediverse stuff but here I get a very different outlook on stuff. Between the two I find a nice balance.

Hey, I get that sentiment. I don’t like what happened to BTC either after 2017 when multiple bad actors highjacked it.
