Quitting alcohol is trendy lately.

Which is totally cool, alcohol is a poison and is absolutely terrible for your body. So I support you entirely.

But I’m Irish…

So I will be continuing on in your absence lol 😂

That said I have some rules for my relationship with alcohol.

1. You should drink rarely. Once or twice a month at most.

2. When you do drink though, get drunk. Otherwise what the fuck is the point.

3. In celebration? Always. In sorrow? Never.

4. Never around my children to excess. No kid wants to see the man they depend on out of control.

5. And lastly and most importantly I never forget the advice my grandfather gave me which is being an alcoholic isn’t about how often you drink, it’s about the consequences that come as a result of your drinking. If you have consequences as a result of your relationship with alcohol… it’s time to stop.

I have tried some of the newer non-alcoholic Hazy and IPAs and wow some of them you almost couldn’t tell they’re non-alcoholic. Have come a long way. It’s been great swapping them in rotation when I want to taste of a cold brew without the negatives of alcohol.

Have you tried Athletic Brewing? Their Mexican lager is good

People who didn’t consume in the first place:

🙀

Bruh, I've never seen the reverse 5-step program :)

Lol gotta have a system in place for a life of healthy, fun, responsible drinking.

Huh?

Is that right? Is that how those things ended up in that hard drive to get into?!

hahaha

Definitely trendy and perhaps there’s some legs to this trend. Seeing a lot more non-alcoholic beers available compared to the past as well. I’m over 100 days sober now and I feel great. 🤙🏼

That’s great man!

Well stated. I stand with you on all points, except #1.

Friday & Saturdays happen once week.

...but all others 💯🤙🏽

Sound advice - esp about alcohol around kids. Hate seeing loud / drunk parents when their scamps are about. I like a drink too and would never stop all together, but def cut way down on former levels of consumption.

I'll drink to that

Life is for people who can’t take drugs

It's so interesting to me... I've never drank. Couldn't find anything I liked and I've gone so long NOT drinking alcohol I won't start now. But it's so funny to me how media/tv/movies always talk about peer pressure into alcohol or drugs. I've literally never met any alcohol drinker that didn't respect my preference to not drink. Probably because I never lectured them. You respect my choices, I respect yours.

My wife doesn’t drink at all and sometimes people ask me if it bothers me. Like why would it bother me? It’s her body. I don’t care what she does.

This are good advices. Specially 4.

#2: Macrodose

As a high functioning alcoholic for 2.5 decades, the consequences never caught up with me but certainly many close calls. It wasn’t until I quit that I realized that my transition into full adulthood had been blunted by my drinking.

Whatever your path, I hope you are able to enjoy it with friends.

The older I got the less I enjoyed alcohol. I stopped drinking wine, just beer & even 2 in an evening would make me feel lousy in the morning. Its close to 9 yrs since I had a drink & have no desire to have one again, the quality of sleep is so much better w/out alcohol. Also its been 38yrs since I ate meat & I dgaf about what the bitcoin carnivores have to say 😂

The carnivores are so, so wrong, and honestly the chest beating is hilarious. What a weird little subsect of Bitcoiners. Like, I don't care how long you smoked that piece of meat, Chad. Enjoy that ED.

Number 5 is very true

Your grandfather is a G. Sage advice.

8 years here. Trend or not, love having more sober dinner convos. Higher vibes. Less superficial, more substantive.

Looking forward to the next monthly celebration! I pretty much only drink around bitcoiners. Once ever 2-3 months.

Once I stopped drinking I realized the worst consequences of my drinking were while I was sober between drinking.

My mental health improved drastically as a result of not drinking at all.

A glass of beer every evening over a couple weeks is enough to bring bi-polar back.

Not worth it, no matter how I slice it.

Yeah this is because alcohol disturbs sleep. Even one glass wrecks your ability to get into rem.

only if u drink at night tho.

There is a place for lunch wine in lieu of dinner drinks.

it doesn’t jack your sleep if u process it before bed.

(within reason.)

Drinking alcohol is like buying sovereign debt. Return-free risk.

admittedly - it’s hard for me to moderate alcohol.

on a different note - this stuff is VERY delicious.

That looks fantastic

Hey brother, any chance for newbies to get in on the beefsteak?
