Trying to decide where I might move
Nostr has me believing cities are bad
But I've been a city boy all my life, is now the time to be alone in the woods

It's much harder to find community out in rural areas. If you don't mind being more isolated, the country might be fine, but if you want an easier time finding social groups, it's probably better to live closer to the city.
I would like to live on an Island somewhere away from gov control and taxes
Find a middle ground, close enough to cities that if you need to get something you can but far enough out that screaming yee haw won't get you any weird stares lol
ST. LOUIS! Cheap and you get the city lifestyle with the woods and rural lifestyle 10 mins away
Damn another L for the city boyz if you leave us
why put up with the stinky, commie shit when you don't have to?
i'm now finally in rural surrounds and i'm never going back
Two words
UBER EATS
i can get at least equally good food 5 minutes walk from me at my local pub
pub food is really underrated
Zero percent chance it's equally as good, sorry fren 🐸☺️ - Toronto Uber eats has like 10,000 restaurants
Shot you a DM ser. 🤣🤙🏻
I reply back! Nostr dms are so bad lmfao
I'm on tg @barry_bitvora
Says nostr DMs are bad and offers TG. SMH.
If I had a sat for everytime I've dmed or ppl DM me and nobody can find it the messages, I'd have about 37 sats, which ain't much, but still
I was more talking about other chat apps with e2ee. Not impressed with nostr DMs yet either, but 0xchat seems to work better than amethyst so far.
Portugal. Civilized enough yet a little bit savage. European enough, yet a little bit Mediterranean. People are kind enough but a little bit impolite. And they speak "Brazilian" with a strange accent. (But most speak fluent English)
I loved my month in Portugal many years ago…too many years ago!
The people of Portugal are truly its heart. (At least the ones I hung with)
moved onto 40 acres down a long dirt road, got some goats and chicken about 1.5 years back, best decision of my life, highly recommend
YES
Stay in cities. Improve them. So we can go back.
what's the point in going down with a rotting ship?
loot. damn. not the best answer but indeed the one my impulse let go first. damn again. poor lake city what it will be of you?
maybe you need to take a holiday to a ruin of an ancient city to get some perspective
I do I do, my friend, thank you much. Mexico City actuality could be particularly curious as it started grow (going under) by the 1950's; the arrived inhabitants were old dwellers of the country side from all around the Lake. So this generation of Chilangos (Mexico City +2 generations dwellers) often have relatives out of the city and have a life more or less semi city and semi ranch; however indeed that seems is going to change in the next couple generations, as the city keeps taking new inhabitants and no renovation to the services has been done since their inauguration. Agreed it could be a risky game to be Chilango, but more or less people still likes to buy commodities to feel they climbing the ladder the best.
Anyway, prolly a couple more diplomas I would be needing out of here y hasta la vista 🫡
if not looting! then certainly making use of the still info centers (libraries, and campuses); technical schools and why not, the parties, —as much as cool are raves in the open too.
fair enough, improvement often is hard to achieve out of couple blocks around, and for that is necessary trust between neighbors, suddenly there's a HOA (home owner association) and things could go delta by several paths out of the original intention of dwelling an easy life...
to go earth-ship to the mountains also has his challenges alright...
it's just a thing
the more corruption sets in, the harder it is to break a group out of it
it was already irreversible when i first came into the world and it's 1000x worse now
we are all alone, anyway, that "togetherness" is mostly just a trick our biology uses to keep us mutually defending each other... but when that whole thing has been flipped upside down and people are constantly disrupting each other then what's the point of sticking with this instinct?
find your apocalypse wife and go make a homestead... better we cluster those to each other than waste our time on swarms of normies used to their netflix and macdonalds
"Tinacales" the old name the pubs received towards around the midlands at north and west side of the city. This the drink some masters still craft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulque
Fair enough cities aren't for all adults, that being, persons able to chose where to dwell. For healthiness, budget, or peace of mind, to move to less populated areas alright helps. Hooray too for staying at the cities and look improve them; bike lanes and elevated roads however... 🤔
4 acres near a population center of no more than 100,000 inhabitants. Ideally one would like to know folks around, a fren or relative, dweller of the place, could help do introductions.
As for the metropolitan life... hang there nostr city bwoi ✊ 🫂 .
Let me give you my unsolicited advice on this matter. Two things really.
One. Dont bring the shitty to the country. Theres a reason you left, we dont that shit out in the country.
Two. Dont be a city slicker in the country, youre gonna have a bad time.
Embrace the slower paced life.
Cities lame
I live in a small town, very nice and near nature. Nature on my doorstep.
I walk around the suburb everyday. Spectaular place and has everything I need.

Oh absolutely. When young, cities gave me energy and options. Now old, they drain me and repel me. nostr:npub1uense4apn73tvh4u20tzlp6u72g4kdustzsm0k0sqy6yuwh5jxlsy97y76 too. We do not drink alcohol, smoke, or do drugs, so the need for city life is less insistent.
struggling with this one myself
Was a city boy too. I like not living in the city now, BUT also be within reasonable driving distance when I need to tap into the energy and chaos.
Not ready for hermit yet
They’re not bad not all of them and you have to do what works for you. You can’t listen to everybody else.
The problem with cities is when unrest happens it always starts there. Depending on what city and how big it is, maybe consider have a bug out location instead Say something 50-100 miles out. You could use it as a weekend get away. Also nice to find a homesteader group or a group of like minded people.
We live on 30 acres but are not "alone in the woods" we know and interact with many of our neighbors and help each when needed, several of us are prior military and many of us hunt regularly... Take that how you like... But the chance of zombies walking 50 miles is pretty low... There are a lot of rednecks they will have to get through before us.
I just drove to Florida so I can be closer a city to be able to earn more money to stack sats. I sleep in my van to keep my expenses low. I've now evacuated Florida because of the hurricane in SC now.
Might go back to Austin TX.
interesting take.
Cities aren't bad. Everyone is different, it's your life.
Choose the right woods and you’ll never be alone
What metrics are you using to decide? So many different things going into this kind of thing
Funchal or Mexico City.
My wife and I moved to the hills just east of Sacramento last year. The solitude has been indescribably healing to my head, heart, spirit, and soul. Honestly, though, it feels as though I’ve “gotten it out of my system” and we both are dying to move closer to town; not a city, since we both grew up in cities (I grew up in the insane tourist district of Hollywood CA and I’ve had enough of helicopters and fast cars for a lifetime 😂), but closer to other humans within walking distance.
I hope you enjoy the heck out of it!! One of the best things I ever did.
Just my humble opinion, cities aren’t inherently bad. Depends on your own individual concerns, needs, and wants. For people considering big moves it may be best to rent while you are getting a feel for a new area and deciding what works best for you.
