Question: If Macron is correct, that China's desire to unify Taiwan with the mainland by force is no different than the EU's desire for unity, then why didn't France and others threaten to invade the UK over Brexit?

I literally had a friend try to convince me that this all demonstrated that Macron is an enlightened statesmen, merely by virtue of taking the opposite line of the US.
I am no defender of US foreign policy. But if someone can be confused into simping for Xi Jinping merely by it being an opportunity to disagree with the US, then you might be a complete idiot.
I am curious to see how the EU deals with Macron's statements in China. There is criticism, but I find it restrained. And from Germany in particular, it comes mainly from the political second row. But I'm happy to be corrected on this.
Eastern European countries seem to be pretty outraged. There has also been some pretty fierce criticism within the French press, such as in La Monde, at how morally bereft his statements were.

I'm not criticizing strategic autonomy. I think it would be an amazing thing for the EU to be able to defend itself. I'm criticizing the kissing Xi's ass thing.
I understand that and I am with you 100% on that, all I am pointing out is that they started to sing this song more loudly after both Von Leyden And Macron had a sit down with Xi. I may not know the exact details of those discussions but the timing is quite suspicious at the very least.

Macaron is positioning to be main partner for China on Europe continent. For that he needs to control the Med sea as an inportant distibution enabler geographical feature. To do this US Navy shoud be expelled from the Med sea. France will start war but not with UK but against Turkey over control of the Med Sea
The US's need to defend its interests against Spain, England, and France pushed forward the process from being a confederation to a federation.

Xi made Macron an offer he couldn't refuse. The answer to your question is ... obviously don't take Macron or other leaders words at face value. They are all trying to sell you something other than what their words say.
This is leading to the US allies diminishing and giving the resistance more power. Not that France was much of a threat to anyone, but it emboldens some of the smaller resistance countries nonetheless.
