If you’re new here, what questions do you have about nostr?

How to optimize relays.
How do you play videos in posts like @odell
You can either upload videos directly in apps that supports direct uploads (most of the popular apps do). Or you can paste a link to an existing video in your post, and the app will render it in the post once you send it. For direct uploads, you may have different limits on file size/video length depending on which media host you’re using, whether you have a paid vs. free plan with them, etc.
What are good paid hosts one can use for longer videos?
Thank you kind ser
Thank you kind sir
Primal’s built in hosting is great if you use the primal app. Nostr.build is also top notch. And the free plans on both are even good offerings, but definitely recommend the paid/premium plans if you intend to upload a lot of video content.
I'll check out the paid/premium plans. I'd like to post training videos of the goalies I work with to my nostr:nprofile1qqsqmtwrvt9dj37c65kandew32llt66l8vyflq2vrnrwsz0p8y8nrtgpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumt0d5hszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qgawaehxw309ahx7um5wghxy6t5vdhkjmn9wgh8xmmrd9skctc8xjpuf page.
Which app are you using? If you use Damus, Nostur, or Amethyst, for instance, and you have a paid nostr.build plan linked to your npub, then your media uploads in any of those apps will go into your nostr.build account. It’s freaking magic. Lol
I use Amethyst 98% of the time. I've got primal on my iPad, but very rarely use it.
Linking nostr.build to the npub make a lot of sense. Definitely gonna do that!

Here’s their about page. It gives more details on what you get with a free vs. paid account.
Thanks for sharing. I became a paid user with Nostr.build
But then I had a file that was over their max of 4gb
Will have to figure out another way to
How to delete a post?
If the nostr app you’re using supports the delete feature, then you select hit delete on that post. Consider it more of a delete request, as it’s ultimately up to the relays storing copies of your post to honor the delete request. Most of them do, but it’s the internet and nothing is ever really deleted. 😅
Thanks, perhaps my version of ios doesn't show the feature. Not a menu option.
Yea, Primal doesn’t have the delete option. There’s another app on iOS called Nostur that does. I use both Nostur and Primal a lot and they’re each great for different reasons. Just a word of caution though to be cautious about logging in to other apps using your private key and ask around on here just to make sure they’re reputable apps.
How do you add tools/apps? I have the music apps but is there an editing tool like to make memes or videos? so so many questions so please be gentle lol

Lol ask them all! I’ll try my best to answer and I’m sure others will chime in 😂
I don’t think any of the apps have directly integrated media editing tools yet. I make all my memes and videos using an app called Inshot, and then I just upload them when I post them. Inshot is amazing and does literally everything. I’ve used it for years. There are some good web based meme editors too for simple adding text to a meme. Imgflip is one. Also https://gifbuddy.lol is made by nostr:npub1hee433872q2gen90cqh2ypwcq9z7y5ugn23etrd2l2rrwpruss8qwmrsv6 here and lets you edit gifs and memes.
Thanks for the meme tip, I wonder similarly how to use all the apps in the ecosystem, like note deck etc. Are they accessed through each client or
Standalone? Probably dumb question, but I’m not looking for these things in my phone App Store, so where do I get them and which program do I run to install them?
Some of the apps are in the app store, some are web based that run in the browser, some are desktop apps (such as Notedeck). For the ones that are not in the app stores, I recommend either visiting the website or github page for each app to find their official download links.
There are a few ways to login to each app.
Most apps allow you to login directly using your private key, but that can also be risky to do too much since you don’t want to compromise your key. Only do this if you have to and if you trust the app.
For browser-based nostr apps, there are signing extensions you can use to sign in. Ably and nos2x are two good ones. To use those, you import your key into the extension, and then when you visit a nostr app in the browser it will detect the extension. The extension then communicates with the app whenever it needs your key, but without exposing your private key to the app.
Android users have a similar solutions for mobile apps called Amber. I’m not aware of a similar solutions or iOS apps yet.
Ok I have some homework to do it seems, appreciate it
My referral code doesn't work. Who do I email about that?
How do you feel about lightning enabled affiliate links?
Here's how it works. You add your lightning addres. You get a link. If someone buys something, you get a commission in sats.
what are the zaps for?
Zaps are how you send tips to people. They use the bitcoin lightning network. Each app differs slightly in how they’re implemented in the UI. I see your Primal address, so if you’re using their built in wallet then everything is right there in the app. When you send a zap you can customize the amount and include a message. You can zap directly on a post and it will show on that post. Or you can zap someone from their profile and it will just go to their wallet, but won’t show on a specific post.
zaps will set you free
All the questions.

Why has the CEO chosen an ostrich rather than a squirrel ?
Lol 😂 The ostrich (aka, nostrich) origin story is one for nostr:npub1cj8znuztfqkvq89pl8hceph0svvvqk0qay6nydgk9uyq7fhpfsgsqwrz4u to tell.

So primal is an app on top of the nostr protocol, correct? I also see a report feature for flagging content. Is this local to the application and all content remains “on network?” How is content moderation executed, specifically?
I definitely don’t work for the CIA btw
Yes, #Primal is a client, or an app if you will, that's built on the noster protocol. Couple of clients/apps are there for Nostr. They all can technically communicate with one another. It's kind of like the email, where you have Gmail, Yahoo mail, etc. and you can send email from one to another.
About flagging content, yes, you can mute or block any content or user you don't want to see. But I'm afraid, it's just client or app specific. Meaning, if you mute or block something or someone on Primal, it might not be transferable across other clients or apps, like on Amethyst for example.
About content moderation, some clients have some block lists for some content types or some relays even filter which types of contents they will allow.
But it's mainly it's up to the user to block/mute the content they don't want to see.
Haha 🤣 Yes Primal is an app on nostr. There are many others, and as an aside, you can login to any of them with your private key and use your same identity and following in any of them. But just be super cautious about doing too much of that because if your private key gets compromised then you can’t undo that.
As for flagging/reporting, there is a spec in the protocol for how that’s handled. I’ll link it below. But essentially your app sends a report event to your connected relays, and then it’s up to those relays operators to decide how to handle it from there. I’m not sure how Primal specifically handles reports they receive.
How do I set my darn wallet. It fails every time I try
I was just looking at your profile and saw your other posts/replies about the wallet issue. Sounds like it’s an issue with the initial setup/activation? Did you check your spam folders? The activation email might be going there. Or if not, then probably best to reach out to Primal directly for troubleshooting. Not sure what the issue would be. Their support email is support@primal.net

Do we take these keys and put them in Nostr.com? Or put this primal user name into Nostr.com
No there is no need for that. Your keys that Primal gave you are all you need to use any nostr app. Just be very cautious about putting your private key (the one that starts with nsec) into any app or website unless you know you can trust the app. As for nostr.com specifically, they are just another provider on the network and happen to have the nostr web domain.
When I post, where is that data stored?
How do I post? I’m able to reply to people, but I’m not able to post my own content. Can you help?

You’re on Primal? When you’re on the home tab in your app, tap the plus button to begin composing a new post.

It'd rather have some advice for the devs having been on nostr for quite a while. Essentially I have one complaint, which is it's still not intuitive enough. For example:
1. I dgaf about the different relay types, I want it to be easier to get and easier to find / visualise. Then I want something super easy to tell if I'm set up right or not. Green vs Red on settings for DMs or whatever.
2. Nips is short for nipples. Calling things "NIP-60 compliant" or whatever doesn't help me. Give the NIPs catchy names so I know what they do. Also for the above purpose.
Is it possible to Edit/delete posts?
There’s one Android nostr app (Amethyst) that has implemented an edit feature, but it’s not supported by any other app I’m aware of so even if you edited a post there, every other app would still show the original. So essentially, no edits.
There is support for “delete” within the nostr protocol, but not every app or relay has implemented it. Since it’s decentralized, there’s no way to ensure it’s truly deleted everywhere, so that’s why some app teams have chosen to not give the option at all. My experience has been that it actually works fairly well in apps that give the option. On iOS, neither Primal nor Damus gives the option, but Nostur (another app) does.
How do I reduce the bitcoin evangelists?
