1) decentralized signal getting broadcast without interference from algorithms

2) NOSTR is still too early in it's development for most non-techies to make use of much of the protocol. UX needs less friction.

3) I think my first npub was created in March 2023

4) I use Satellite.Earth and Amethyst. I like Satellite Best

5) I struggled getting media uploaded... Finding other users who I want to follow without picking random people who post. There are many people I would still like to find here.

6) Still having trouble with media uploads. I want to see a schedule of events on plebchain radio, NOSTR nests etc. So i can tune into things of interest.

Thanks for asking.

Thanks for your answer!

It seems there’s no Lightning address on your profile - would you like help setting it up? I’d love to zap you!

Thank you šŸ«‚

I'm trying to use Nostr zap-free (Nostr experience holds good place even with no zaps)

Sounds good!

Here are my take.

1. What’s your favorite thing about nostr?

āœ…Simply freedom, from all the censorship from legacy platform, from not being able to "tip" content creator directly, and from algorithm shaping me behavior.

2. What’s your least favorite thing about nostr?

āœ…Obviously most clients are still not very good, but that encourages me to switch from one client to another each day. And that's kind of refreshing.

3. How long ago did you create your first npub?

āœ…Just like 3 weeks ago, which made me uninstalled FB and IG from my phone right away.

4. Which client(s) do you use the most?

āœ…Primal, Iris, Snort, and Coracle for PC. Amethyst, Iris, and Plebstr for Android device.

5. Where did you struggle with nostr when you first started using it?

āœ…Getting started, because I was shamelessly addicted to legacy platform. So switching to Nostr made me crave for cheap dopamine trigger for a few days. But after that, life's more simple.

6. Where do you still struggle to use nostr?

āœ…Storing private key as safely as bitcoin seed phrase. I still feel like Satoshi would cry if he know how I store my nsec.šŸ˜…

Anyway, this is such a fun thread to contribute to. Hope my answers help!

1. Probably the lack of algorithm, you can find so many things, you'd never have found out otherwise. And people are mostly so cool too. So relaxed.

2. That sometimes it looks like a bitcoin cult (no offense) I get the idea, I want the freedom and autonomy it gives us, but sometimes it's too much :P

3. Probably in March I guess

4. Amethyst, Iris and Damus

5. Zaps sometimes I do not get hehe I mean they are the bread and butter and who doesn't want them, but sometimes I struggle to zap between clients. I'm still learning all this new vocab about coding and how this open protocol thingies work :P here to learn

Earlier than you think...

Oh wow! I didn't remember! How are you able to see it? In which client is it possible to check that out? šŸ‘€

1 Being able to swap and cross from client to client with my keys

2 It consumes a lot of data

3 December 2022

4 Amethyst/Onyx

5 Back then was difficult to have info about anything, everything was so new, even finding a good client, I used Astral Ninja for a month

6 The struggle is to keep up with all the signal out there and all the new app/microapp/new features that everyday are being constantly built

1. The community.

2. The learning curve for new users.

3. December 19th, 2022

4. Damus & Primal

5. Uploading pictures was a pain in the ass at first.

6. Onboarding new users is the biggest struggle.

1. its flexibility

2. it's hard to find specific people or notes sometimes

3. i think i created my first npub in June, for testing

4. amethyst

5. it was hard to find people because there was no algo

6. I don't know how #zapathon works šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

NO ZAP REQUIRED

1- none of my notes get censored or deescalated

3- 8 months ago

4- damus for only zaps

5- learning the initial set up like what LUD-06 and 16 was

6- not me but on my other socials that I use to promote and help new users [reddit mainly] they still have a hard time understanding relays - I frequently see posts about ā€˜disappearing information’ and its usually a relay issue

1 - censorship resistant

2 - (amethyst) app could be simplified/ easier to use

3 - 2 weeks

4 - amethyst

5 - finding people

6 - needs more structure

funciona legal

1. My favorite thing about NOSTR are the polite happy people who are engaging in real conversations about real topics. Hopefully that culture will be maintained as NOSTR grows. I think #coffeechain #goodmorning #introductions and zapping all feed this positive vibe

2. My least favorite thing about NOSTR is the lack of users. I think an honest assessment of the number of daily users would be about 10,000. The focus has been on building more cool tech and building and building and there has been zero effort into a PR campaign for NOSTR.

3. I created my first nsec on May 15, 2023 and have studied NOSTR many hours daily simce then.

4. I use Amethyst almost exclusively. I will login to Primal occasionally and Damus to see what they are up to.

5. Most clients have an awful sign in process. People should be able to login and start using NOSTR without knowing or caring anything about nsec, relays or anything else. Just login and go. Let people learn about these refinements later.

6. The lack of users is really the main hurdle. NOSTR needs 100,000 daily users or 1 million daily users to really breakout and be useful. NOSTR is so incredibly powerful because the simplicity makes it possible to build new functionality which simply does not exist anywhere else or to "expose" functionality which has been walled off and only available to people who control the major social media companies. However, if nobody knows about NOSTR how will it reach it's true potential. Certainly someone in the NOSTR universe must have a media connection (or 100) who could mention NOSTR anytime an article is written about Threads, Twitter, Blue Sky, Mastadon, etc. #grownostr #asknostr #plebchain

1. The community feeling I experience and have interesting conversations with each other.

2. That everyone is using it yetšŸ˜…

3. I think around the end of last year.

4. Primal is my favorite and I use the most

5. Didn’t understood how the relays and protocol worked. I’ll admit I don’t fully understand it now but I’m learning.

6. Figuring out what nostr can mean for me and what I can mean for nostr

1. Favorite thing is that it is an open source, decentralized protocol with ease of use, and the freedom it brings. To see the community tackling problems, building and growing together.

2. That it is using github for it's development, which is controlled by microsoft, and is a centralized service and they can, for any reason take down the repository.

3. I created my first npub around march when I saw amethyst being updated frequently on fdroid, and seemed interesting to explore.

4. I use the amethyst client primarily on android. On the web, I jump between clients, don't use a specific one.

5. I struggled with understanding it's workings initially, and that amethyst was crashing a lot.

6. The struggle with bringing my friends and family over. To give them an quick and easy way to understand and switch.

Quite a long answer, but I enjoyed thinking about it and writing on it. Some answers might not be relevant or be based on my misunderstanding. Hopefully it helps.

1. not sure which one is my fave, but I like a lot of stuff, here are some of the below

1a. interaction between plebs instead of centered around some famous individual

1b. no ads

1c. zaps

1d. custom emoji to reacts

1d. censorship resistant, freedom to post whatever

1e. one account / identity to access them all (social media, blog, chat message, streaming service, podcast, marketplace, etc)

2a DMs metadatas are not private

2b. no easy way to manage list yet, at least not that I know of in amethyst

2c. can block spam but its on client side (nostr.kiwi). I hope it can be nips instead so its applied on amethyst / all client too

2d. It consume more battery and data. My own fault for using too many relay as well

3. I believe from Jan-2023

4. Amethyst

5. getting reach on my post

6. getting interaction on poll. maybe because of zap required on poll. also same answer as 2a-2c

1. The people and qulity of the content

2. I don't understand that question.

3. Dec 24, 2022

4. Snort, Primal, noStrudel,Plebstr, ZapStream ...

5. NIPs who? Once understood, NIPS are beautiful.

6. Blogging. Needs better formatting tools.

1) The overall sense of positivity.

2) Not a broad enough user base yet.

3) Back in March after holding out since December

4) Iris and Amethyst, mostly Amethyst now since it gained all the new features.

5) Struggled to be motivated to use it...that changed when I was removed from the dead bird app.

Setting up another browser to install an extension so I can use other Nostr services without handing over my private key.

1. The community and the zaps. Value for value is the future.

2. Slight performance issues. Slow loading pictures on clients and things like that. Ik it’ll be fixed eventually though

3. Like a year ago but just started using it like 4 months ago

4. Damus

5. Starting to follow people and build community without an algorithm. (Which isn’t a bad thing to not have an algorithm but the hardest part is starting)

6. Videos are kind of annoying but maybe that’s a client issue. Some videos you can’t scroll through.

1 Permissionless potential

2 That the priceless culture is dependent on exclusivity from normie

3 6mos

4 primal

5 relay settings, awaiting propogation, wrapping mind around nsec v npub v lnurl v btc addy

6 waiting for inevitable client features and not having an iphone. the progress and innovation is amazing and admirable, but I chose a client that lacks native lists or production android release.

1. No rules, everything goes. This creates this unique bubbling mix that I do enjoy.

2. Fake Bezos showed up

3. 793,700

4. Ametyst, Primal, Nostrudel, Iris

5. Which client to use; which relays to use and their settings

6. Finding new people; Blocking tags don't want to see

1. Helpful people! Everyone here has been SO kind and patient about explaining Nostr, Bitcoin, and Lightning to me!

2. Consistency in features. I know... Having a variety of clients is great, and they're all going to do different things better, but not being able to set my posts as "sensitive content" on most other clients makes me feel like I can't, in good conscience, post from clients other than Amethyst, so I just never use them.

3. A week ago.

4. Amethyst, hands down, for the reason outlined above.

5. Figuring out how to get zaps set up so I don't have to go outside Amethyst to zap someone.

6. I guess just with monetizing content and figuring out what, if anything, I should do about adding relays. I started using Zapit.live to create paywalls to my content, but it takes a bit of setup for each piece of content. It's not natively built into any client, so I have to go to three different places to make it work. Would definitely love something more streamlined.

I'm not trying to get that zap,

I just want to make a positive comment on how using Nostr to me means also showing my customers and suppliers that this is a combination of using Bitcoin, and current data for them with pricing in SATS.

As a B2B owner using Nostr helps show my customers and suppliers that there is a small but growing community Worldwide that we is actually transacting using SATS as the foundational street price.

This community will slowly migrate to first posting their products and services on Nostr and then to using various new things on Nostr.

Personally I feel let the market find itself, B2B and B2C street pricing will a combination of Harmon codes which refers to the amount of duty, and possible posting both C.I.F. AND F.O.B. unit prices.

On one of our branded websites we're successfully currently using a hybrid Shopify site with ONLY method of payment in Bitcoin (Lightning via IbexPay).

As we're adding products, we're doing the baby steps thing with most requested items first. Eventually in would be migrated off of Shopify on to a Nostr based craigslist/e-bay wanna be site with product catalogs thinking from the reality that ASIN'S, UPC'S, HARMON CODES, SKU'S should include a timestamp reference maybe combined in json ???

Anyway today Friday Aug. 11 this live working website, is using Bitcoin as the only form of payment (SATS the site does NOT accept credit cards).

For quick reference the products are shown in USD but final checkout shows in SATS.

The amount of Humans that import, export, wholesale, retail clothing, textile related goods B2B and/or B2C Worldwide growth is more active than in the USA, The businesses that I interact with are most concerned with fiat currency swings, Bitcoin will eventually circulate with small and medium B2B owners first.

And as speaking a merchant, we always find the market price in realtime.

The worst thing for us in the Government getting involved in price restrictions, new duties, taxes, tariffs etc.

As Nostr evolves I predict niche B2B marketplace(s) that are serious about real street pricing in SATS will become the goto places 24/7.

I would imagine that those of us that are dealing with the reality of remote locations would even benefit when transit time on smaller air cargo will become the norm, as not everyone will want to gamble on a four month window of ordering and actual combined shipment times via Ocean Container.

Challenges

Learning how to get exposure in general on Nostr.

Explain to the Nostr community in general that discussing products and services on Nostr does NOT mean spamming, yes there will be some not so professional postings, but if merchants actually start using Nostr they will need to get straight to the point, more clear data and less sales hype.

Explaining to my customers and suppliers how their postings will be available,

Thanks to all of the people building stuff !

Rich

Thanks for your input šŸ«‚

1. People are nice and it’s a true freedom protocol for free speech

2. I love #Bitcoin but look forward to increasing adoption-more diverse content

3. 12/22/22

4. Damus … primal

5. Learning about keys, npub, nsec, nip-05, motion meme PFPšŸ˜‚

6. Keeping up in general. nostr:npub19mduaf5569jx9xz555jcx3v06mvktvtpu0zgk47n4lcpjsz43zzqhj6vzk has helped

1. Community. There is still very much a creator mentality that I appreciate

2. Crypto spam bots

3. About 6 months ago

4. Damus

5. Nip-05 verification and feeling like I needed to have that sorted before I could note or reply.

6. Hmmm šŸ¤” I would like to see better search and discoverability options. But I like how when you’re having an issue or have a question you can just ask and someone shows up to help. Nostr community to the rescue.

5th attempt

I posted a long ass answer and it didn’t get posted, I guess I have to change my answer for number 6.

So here we go again(I’ll make sure I copy this time)

1. Too many things. No algorithms/user controlled algorithms. Zaps. No ad-tracking

2. Crypto spam bots that I have to keep muting.

3. December 22, after jack’s funding announcement though I really started using it after feb when damus came out.

4. Damus/Primal and Ofcourse Toolstr(cause I develop it šŸ˜…)

5. Never really understood relays or how many should I have. At one point I kept posting to 30 relays šŸ˜‚

6. The fact that I write a long ass note and it doesn’t end up getting posted šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø. But also in development that nips often don’t have examples, and after reading and understanding a long ass nip I found out that it has been outdated.

Thanks for posting this survey, I’m absolutely enjoying the answers so far.

Thanks man!

I’m compiling them all into a spreadsheet and see what kinds of commonalities jump out (there are already a few clear ones like onboarding, nips, etc)

1. Freedom to choose my own adventure - clients, curate my feed, no advertisers or algorithms

2. It’s difficult to catch up on notes if I’ve been away from internet service for an extended period of time.

3. First one late December(burned it because of inappropriate use of my nsec) this one February.

4. Damus

5. Setting up my profile and nip verification (much easier now 😁)

6. I don’t know how to post gifs šŸ˜‚šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø.

1. What's your favorite thing about nostr?

- The comfort of consuming content – I don't encounter fake investment advertisements or content I'm not interested in, like social dramas or trashy news clips.

2. What's your least favorite thing about nostr?

- I use iOS, which has quite a lot of issues. Example, articles not displaying content, which forces me to use up to 3 different clients just to view the content each time. It's quite time-consuming. It's like I'm playing three social media platforms at once. šŸ˜‚

3. How long ago did you create your first npub?

- I had created another account 6 months ago, but I only started using it seriously just 2 weeks ago.

4. Which client(s) do you use the most?

- I use Damus, Plebstr, Primal on my iPhone (All at once šŸ˜‚) and Primal on website.

5. Where did you struggle with nostr when you first started using it?

- In the beginning, I wasn't sure about what I was engaging with and why I should use it. I was wondering how I could connect with people.

However, at that time, I was already familiar with "zap" because someone zapped me right from the start. I thought it was a great feature that generated interest and a positive feeling about Nostr among people.

6. Where do you still struggle to use nostr?

- For iOS users on Nostr, it's been quite a hassle, and it can get really frustrating, It's making me consider getting an Android phone just to have a smoother Nostr experience.

1. What’s your favorite thing about nostr?

- Currently, the community in Thailand is still new and fast-growing, as an early adopter, I really appreciate the vibes and support I received (in term of Zap, Like, Repost). I mostly appreciate the 'Right Shift' team who make a great contribution to the growing of Bitcoin/Nostr community in Thailand. I believe the adoption is really important and I can see the bright future here.

2. What’s your least favorite thing about nostr?

- The content still mainly about IT, so it is quite hard to access by non-tech-savvy people.

3. How long ago did you create your first npub?

4. Which client(s) do you use the most?

- Amethyst/Plebstr

5. Where did you struggle with nostr when you first started using it?

- The idea of Protocol and Client confused me in the first place. I cannot find 'Nostr' App on Play Store. The idea that I can use different Clients to access same App is new for me.

6. Where do you still struggle to use nostr?

- I play Nostr mainly as a social media; posting my cat, coffee, cactus, etc. (Zap as an extra feature), so I am struggling on how to invite my friends to play together. They are mainly on Instagram. It is difficult to convince why they should come here. I think Zap might not convincing much for non-tech-savvy people. So, what I am doing now is to explain in the simplest way, not talking about Zap or IT stuffs.
