Now that I've dedicated to #nostr, it is amazing how disheartening X is. My For You is filled with violence and posts that are indiscernible from ads. It's so nice here and, best of all, I am in control of that!

Twitter has end stage cancer by algorithm--one that promotes rage and attention seeking. As people who are repelled by such things leave, the dynamic is reinforced by the self-selected people who remain and the bots that game them.

Other social media communities exist that, while differing in details, lack this influence and this outcome.

Personally I've found the Fediverse (usually called Mastodon for its most popular client), and of course Nostr, immensely satisfying for this reason. Very different communities with very different norms, but neither suffer (at least in my corner of each) from this kind of perpetual rage bait and "engagement" seeking.

Yes, there is much objectionable (to me) content on both, but it is much easier to ignore as it is not promoted in your face.

Agreed! I delete the app last weekend. It’s been nice not reading the mostly nonsense. I’ll be off X until at least after the election possibly longer or forever. Definitely not missing it, and my Nostr feed seems to be safe for now. ☺️

Twitter's bottom hit me before election season. Social media is designed to be negative, and it rewards such behavior. I got sick of the force fed posts designed to enrage. Nostr has been a refreshing change, but we will see how it evolves/matures over time.

I see where you’re coming from, but I think the app makes it fairly easy to curate your feed. I’ve noticed that after marking a few similar posts as “Not interested in this post,” it quickly learns and shows me fewer posts on that topic or from that person.

I doubt the fear-mongering, hate-mongering, war-mongering people will suddenly chill when their favorite candidate won’t be elected.

The only bright spot is that if nostr keeps improving, we could provide the normal people a safe haven from that.

The flip side of it is that it helps with setting up muted phrases and accounts to have a higher signal experience going forward. Takes a lot of effort and discipline for me, but there are still a lot of good accounts on X only that I find useful and worth the effort

One of the best things I did was mute words related to the election. Candidate names, parties, ‘debate’, etc. Made all the difference immediately.

Every single morning there is some “🚨BREAKING🚨” tweet waiting for me on my lock screen. None of it breaking, little of it actually true. Feels like I’m a product being sold.

On the other hand, I manually check #primal to see what’s up without one notification prompting me to do so. Kind of like a lounge I frequent after work.
