I still can’t wrap my head around and how much I was impressed by the #Bitcoin #Market in Miami ! We could orange pill so many people this way! I’m wondering how to make this one happen here in #Chicago and what permission is needed for that 🤔

feel like that price list is going to be an historical curiosity

Agreed!

Somehow need to make this more common in more cities across the US

Hopefully this was just a pilot and cash app makes these regular promotional/marketing events for #bitcoin and cash app

Local Bitcoin communities can organize such things as well near the farmers market location in their cities. As I said it’s just depends what is needed for that, just permission from the farmers market to put the tents on the land or to have sort of license to accept bitcoin for the things people sell 🤷‍♂️

Very true! Also can just try to orange pill individual vendors at farmer markets

Yes, we have been doing this in Chicago. But I guess having a dedicated market for that gonna be much more better

Farmer, ranch, organic, arts n crafts markets seem to be a great way to Orange n Purple pill in many countries n begin circular economies.

Michigan Bitcoin meetups often have a transaction time at the end where people buy and sell all sorts of stuff. Bitcoin meetups are how the circular economy is getting built here in Michigan.

Selling on the meetup is different vibes! I have witnessed the old man was going across bitcoin market asking the questions about bitcoin and then buying a book with sats for the kids! To onboard newcomers we have to have bitcoin market dedicate place with experienced Bitcoiners who can walk through people and show them how to buy and sell stuff with bitcoin.

The farmers market are good to orange pill them but usually they are busy and don’t have too much time to listen to you about bitcoin and why they should accept it vs just having a line of people behind me who wants to buy stuff for fiat lol So, dedicated market could fix that as well !

Before we had the baby we were toying with the idea of setting up a booth at our farmers market and recording the podcast live. Answering questions in real time and selling our merch for Bitcoin and or selling Bitcoin.

But alas we have a 3 month old so that idea got put on the back burner, but one day. We're still so early

Last year me and Julian was going to the farmers market to orange pill people and had a lot who were stopping by and asking! This year I offered to put an actual bitcoin tent over there for more visibility and contacted the farmers market managers to get approval but I was ignored 🥶 We still gonna try to make it happen!

Yes this is exactly what I want to do.

With a Flirting With Bitcoin tent of course 😉

I see, more about orange pilling. Like a Bitcoin meetup in a farmers market so people can see and ask questions.

Now we are onto something! I love this idea.

Get a bunch of bitcoiners together at the weekly farmers market to orange pill the vendors. Has to be easier to get vendors to accept bitcoin if they have 10 customers lined up waiting to send them sats

Or even get some funds pooled together and rent out a booth with some bitcoin stuff. Could also try to partner with a bitcoin-only exchange and have them sponsor a booth

Would be cool to normalise Bitcoin as your basic go to, for regular daily purchases.

#[2] when can you get to Chicago?

👀

I would volunteer to help set this up 🙋‍♂️

When can S&R get to Detroit?

Go Tigers 🤙

Been to one game, Wings are my wifes team. Ps #[5] is close to Kzoo if your looking for a closer option

So you’re telling me Michigan needs a Nostr event? 🤔

Definitely! Everyone should start running local nostr meetups!

We will volunteer to help in Orlando, FL!

Southwest Michigan Bitcoin meetups is pretty much also a nostr meetup. Lots of nostr discussion going on there.

The team is actually interested in turning this into a repeatable process! Hardest part is 0 to 1 imo, but we could bring the same vendors and partners, there’s past work in terms of design and execution, etc

Time for a countrywide tour?

I’ll be at the Seattle one!

With Bitcoin’s greatest hype man drumming up support, should be a hit! We have some vendors locally

Let’s do it! We have already onboarded some vendors here in Chicago that will be interested to participate in the Bitcoin Market. Also we have knowledgeable plebs who definitely would be interested to volunteer and spread the knowledge.

Would love to help out in Chicago. World tour definitely needed.

Let’s go Chicago crew 🤙🫡

#[5] 👀

Absolutely, I'd totally help set this up in New Jersey

Such a great idea!

Nice way to show newbies how easy it is to use Bitcoin and onboard them on the spot.

Looking forward to hearing more about this 🙌

Yes please would love to have something like this in Boston and would be happy to help along with the rest of the MassAdoption team up here to make something like this a reality. We are already working on something similar to this with our freedom festival https://massadoption.net/freedomfest.html

it was cool, but you had to use cashapp and couldn't use your own lightning wallet.

You could use both. #[3] bought stuff not using cashapp

nostr:npub1jzuma368395gu523y4vk4d34p0lxgctk436hggn4qcuj93075qgqtn3vm0 tried and wasn't able to do so. maybe he visited a booth that didn't allow it.

I've read that perhaps some of the staff didn't understand how to accept LN payments

I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed, given you can pay for goods in USD cash without kyc. maybe nostr:npub1ds3hmzemzgp9rsuvyvxqdk0y3uxnq9m903dktjxrvyfwk9w99t4sc2hzcncan confirm

I paid for cayenne pepper and espresso both with Blixt. Vendor generated a Lightning invoice and I paid it instantly. The bar was cash app or fiat only. Definitely was disappointed with that.

Yeah, can confirm. I spoke to someone and they thought they could only get bitcoin with their CashTag. Fortunately the vendors I bought from were more informed

The vendors had the ability to receive from any LN wallet into their cash app.

Perhaps some got confused but it speaks to the need for more education and direct experience.

Why was that? Doesn't CashApp support lightning invoices?

it does, but nostr:npub1jzuma368395gu523y4vk4d34p0lxgctk436hggn4qcuj93075qgqtn3vm0 tried to do this. i just took the sats and sent them to my node. i didn't need anything from the market.

They forced you to pay using a “cash tag”.

I didn't pay with CashApp at all. I used Phoenix and Breez and scanned their QR codes

Where in Chicago does it usually take place?

Logan sq market there are some vendors who accept sats

Nice. About 50 miles away
