Is there a way to downgrade the frequency of certain posters in my feed?
I want to keep them in my feed, but they post SO much that it drowns everything else out. Iβd love it if they posted 1/3rd as often π

Also curious about something like this. Even a mute for an hour would work.
Post "STFU" on 2/3rds of their notes and see how they take it.
Sadly some of my mutes are of those who post like a machine and boost all of their notes
Iβve been thinking about the same thing. Maybe it could be implemented in a way that frequency could be set per public key you are tracking. If they post more than that frequency it just collapses them into one post displayed to the user. Would have a little number on the corner of the post indicating your configured frequency threshold and how many posts are collapsed. This feature would work great for some of the meme accounts my client tracks.

why not just collapse selected users posts into just one big note in a certain period of time, that you could expand.

My method was to create lists that narrow down the feed. I think you can also have someone on a list without following them. So you can check the list for their posts but not see them in your feed.

Worth the effort for me already, but yes, clients should make lists mgmt a bit easier and efficient. Right now an easy improvement for me would be that #Amethyst and #Coracle used the same kind to store and display lists. I have to keep lists duplicated in different kinds (30000 vs 30001) to be able to use them in each one of them.
This is actually the main reason I mute people, besides the obvious spam bots. I try to remember to later unmute them, but sometimes forget and then people get butt hurt because they notice theyβve been muted. ππ My preferred solution would be a temporary βmute for x-hoursβ option, where they are then automatically unmuted afterwards.
Silencing until next hour, day, etc. would be super useful. It doesnβt need to be public just a client side thing.

This might be my best strategy actually, lol. I just try to be very deliberate about my follow list, but maybe I need to let that go.

There was an etiquette in early Twitter. Then the algorithm quietly downplayed the frequent posters so they didnβt spam everyone, allowing them to post non-stop.
Add them to lists. One more reason to not call your contact list a "follow list". We will get there on day :)
I don't think frequency is the issue.
If I use nostr for 15 minutes per day, I will post all my notes in that small 15 minute window.
For people that follow me and that check their feed at that time, it may look like spam since all they see is suddenly maybe 8 notes from me.
Maybe it would be a good idea to have client-side scattering of notes throughout the day so that they are not so clustered.
This βοΈ. I would also like "quiet" posters to be shown more prominently in my feed. Some people just post a couple of notes per week but they're π₯, and they get drowned out by the sheer volume of other posts so that I easily miss them

Profile Lists fix this. They're just not at all integrated in most clients.
Categorizing users needs to be waaaay easier. Instead of a follow button, you should just quickly be able to checkmark what list you want a user to be part of, for example.

This will be a necessary algorithm. Some people boost way too many posts and their boosting loses meaning. Sometimes you follow someone for their interest in one subject but don't want to see every single thing they post. The main issue at the moment is that with less than 10,000 daily active users and falling (tell me if this is wrong), NOSTR does not need anymore "features" or anymore development at all. NOSTR desperately needs a PR campaign to get more users quickly. NOSTR cannot be successful and will lose badly without more users. #grownostr
What about adding a queue? Tumblr lets you set it up so you can queue your posts/reblogs so one goes out every so many minutes/hours.
This is part of the more general idea of selecting from a variety of open source algorithms.
I've been thinking of a slider bar when I look at someone's profile that is MY setting for them. Starts in the middle. If they don't post much but it's high quality then I can move it up, too much (like lots of side comments) and I can can slide it down. Unfortunately I don't code. π

I have an idea. Add a bunch of algos that social media sites use to Nostr, but let users decide which one to use and how.
Maybe an aggregate post for people who post more than a user-specified amount of posts?
I create lists & view posts from lists as my mood dictates.
My All follows view is pretty noisy but lists make it pleasant.
