Every generation inherits a mess. That’s not new, that’s life. The boomers protested wars, marched for civil rights, built the internet, and yes, made mistakes. Just like yours will. Just like every one has.
It’s easy to point fingers. Harder to roll up your sleeves. But if you’re truly cleaning up, congrats, you’re standing on the shoulders of people who did something, even if imperfectly.
So if you don’t want to hear from the people who built the world you’re trying to fix, that’s fine. Just don’t pretend you’re the first to care.

You seem to be a learned individual as you went to youtube to learn how to shoot a gun. Read the book “Boom, Bust and Echo” by David Foot. Demographics is key to understanding how economies work. Being a Genxer in the aftermath of that generation, the book helped me understand the WHY. Hopefully you’ll learn how the world works. This generation is poised to go down the same path, like mosquitos to a flame.

it was something like 1% of genX who resisted the boomers. i lived it. my high school was 2 main groups: long hair rock and roll and short hair pop music. 2 styles, both the same really. barely any of us were different than that.
on my block alone... every genX family other than ours is a boomer clone, voting for the same party as most of the boomers. they don't know what is happening in the world, or even in Canada and they even say boomer things like that they would rather not know.

people follow the status quo because it is easy mode. no thinking necessary.

my boomer parents gambled, overconsumed, and boozed away their money. they ignored our difficulties and hid them. they only cared about what their friends may think. they never helped either of their kids.

My biggest frustration is how politicians catered to them. Year after year, they would get the political attention at the expense of the younger generations.
At least I have parents who are self sufficient. I’ve heard horror stories of others who spent away their money and have to depend on their kids. Imagine being in that situation….
They cater to the demographic that supports the preferred agenda. They pretend this demographic is bigger and more important and more vocal than they are, and give them a steady supply of fresh printed dollars.
I expect gen Z will be way worse.

What always happens happened again but it's not fair this time because I'm special.
My parents are boomers. They both worked really hard to raise a family of 4 kids. Never received any easy money/assets, etc. They never fell for anything, they were both incredibly principled and raised great kids. I'm so sick of this anti-boomer hate. Stereotyping and blaming a whole cohort of people is how dictators kill millions in the name of the greater good.
"Stereotype" is a recognized pattern which one is unwilling to admit or grapple with.
Stereotypes collapse when you speak to an individual from that 'group'. It's a great way to make jokes about people, it's a terrible way to place judgement.

The main difference here is one of us refuses to accept reality, basing their worldview on how they want the world to be.
The other accepts reality and forms their worldview in response to it.

This sums it up well. We have to really be careful with our wording when trying to communicate hard truths to our boomer parents. They believe everything that comes out of the TV (and mostly think we're crazy). The only times they listen is when something directly affects them or when they experience those fleeting moments of truth that produce inevitable Gell-Mann Amnesia

Well said. This post reminds me of how people used to dump on millennials and now have chosen zoomers as their new target. I feel like everyone is going to dump on every generation but their own and act like their dookie don't have a stank to it.

I'm not a boomer, but millennials aren't all that either. They have their own misdeeds as well.
Millennials raised themselves, have been at war since 2001, and haven't seen a wage increase in their entire lives. They've taken every financial storm on the chin but have still managed to have more kids and be more present in their lives.
Yeah, they have issues... But it's mainly PTSD from the boomers incredible rate of fuck-ups.

Everything we have today is because of the previous generations. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I’m grateful to the boomers for all of the contributions they made, even if some of them were completely disastrous. Its so damn true- with the exception of the 3% of boomers that are based and don't fall for the bullshit (all the boomers on nostr probably fall in that small percentage).
I know about 40 boomers well since its my parents and aunts/uncles generation.
1 out of those 40 didn't fall for the covid charade and did everything they were told to do. Luckily that one birthed me. She's the only one that has an open mind and not completely controlled by whatever the narrative of the day is.
