luckily – or sadly – cypherpunks have enough work to do for the foreseeable future given how the world around us develops, not just bitcoin.

bitcoiners suffer from an isolationist mindset. we should be seeking collaboration across all branches of freedom fighters. we should be leading these efforts, craft alliances, directing the vision.

instead, many are even proud to live in their own small little bubble in which weak ideas can flourish without being challenged or without ever having any meaningful impact on the world.

we should be at the center of the global fight for freedom and we should be shaping the future of coming generations.

This.

The whole "Bitcoiner culture" works against Bitcoin widespread adoption.

We should have Bitcoiners of all cultures and walks of life.

We should act a little more normal and stop the "laser eyes vs normies" stuff.

What feels real (because It is real) adoption is the people in Venezuela, Gaza and the African villagers empowering themselves and their communities via Bitcoin adoption, fighting against dictatorship, extreme poverty, lack of self sovereignty... fighting and winning.

Exactly!! We have to tell Bitcoin story and how it can help achieve financial stability and independence

But these people you mentioned (villagers etc) wouldn't do anything there with btc if certain infra or tools were not first set up by the nerds in the 1st world countries who are sitting in their chomfy gaming chairs and putting laser eyes on thier avatars :) those in danger zones are simply too busy fighting for basics. Such programming exercises require peace of mind, full stomach and maybe a cup of coffee :) but in general I agree, often bitcoiners are not taken seriously

Sure, you are 100% right, Satoshi was probably one of those nerds, or a collective of nerds just like our righfully revered OGs (Adam Back, Szabo, Finey), an original cypherpunk.

My critique is against a whole different group of people: modern western "Bitcoin culture" people that feel special and entitled.

A kind of elitism of "illuminated" meat eating right wingers who sometimes see themselves as a superior caste over the non illuminated "normies"

My critique was a self-critique for the most part, and this is an important bit.

Seems like only people in the most disempowering of circumstances will pick up on bitcoin because it solves a real problem for them. Everyone else dgaf because they have apple pay. It has to get really bad first, which could be a long time from now, maybe generational. So the most important attribute is staying power and vigilence against centralizing and compromising forces.

"We should" statements never include incentives to do such a thing

No sir, we must tear each other apart over imaginary JPEGs, that is the highest calling of bitcoiners.

Is Daniel part of the solution or part of the problem though? Take this recent post and his replies for example. Is this constructive dialogue? Many such examples from him. Core supporters almost universally do not engage in good faith.

this is not about core or knots, go for a walk

Was this meant for me or Daniel?

I didn't bring core/knots to this thread, nostr:nprofile1qqswum4p82uluhz2dr40nvdrflspffntgqghc58w9fs57nx6jkdkuaqpz4mhxue69uhks6tnwshxummnw3ezumrpdejqzyrhwden5te0dehhxarj9ekxzmny5dhgt8did. ICYMI...

Real talk Callie. We got to put what we’ve learned and earned to work. We got to talk it and walk it. Bitcoin is the essential key to all pushes for agency and freedom. This is the clarion call to One & All

This. There is literally no conclusion to this fight, it is always a battle of simply getting to the next level and fighting inside the new arena.

If you thought #Bitcoin was the end of the fight or that we'd "be done" at some point, then it isn't that you failed to understand something about Bitcoin, it's that you failed to understand something about reality.

the infighting gets to me sometimes. it shouldn't, but it does. i keep telling myself because we're so passionate. though im afraid sometimes it hurts progress.

I like your positivity but being positive doesn’t always correlate to reality because we are flawed as humans in many ways. The collective of Bitcoiners is not homogenized but a heterogeneous group of groups and individuals with vastly differing opinions and goals. Sometimes on nostr it might seem otherwise, but don’t fool yourself. Infighting is a sign of the heterogeneous nature of bitcoin holders and calling it a community is already a falsehood

We are either freedom fighters or quiet homesteaders.

I lately find myself not giving a fuck anymore about idealism, so I lean more towards getting the hell out of society and start my homestead with my wife, rather than fight for the good of society. Fuck society 🫡

i would like to store jpegs on some cashu mints sir

your ecash would get rugged with the latest update

agreed. the bitcoin hipsters are retarded and lame

If “be at the center” means recentralize, that is a trap. Translate it correctly: many centers, no single perimeter; protocols over personalities; collaboration as proof-gated interoperability, not coalition PR. We can and should shape the future, but by encoding law, building reference infrastructure, stress-testing it in public, rotating guardianship, and keeping exits always-on. That is how Bitcoiners stop being a bubble and start being a backbone.

Agree with this! Memes are powerful but the network effects are owned by the big platforms that cater to government censorship/propaganda/coercion, get past that only to be up against monied shitcoin marketers and other compromising forces. I mean the memes are powerful but without the technical substance it's ultimately useless, as libertarianism on its own historically demonstrates. It is about building the infrastructure so that when it gets bad, and it will, even if not for decades, but when it does the infrastructure and technology has to be built out and working.

I live in my own little bubble of peace because I have done 62 years in the world. I don't need or want any new techno ideas of greatness. The world is not on a screen. The world exist outside your door. That's the bubble I live in reality like it or not. The real world is not on this new television set we call computers. What is on them do more harm then good. He man communication has been corrupted. All by choice mind you.

I've got my BTC, my wife and my real friends. So call me old fashioned and out of touch. Because I am. Ya know the phrase " wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole". That's me and I ain't alone.

"Fix the money, fix the world," doesn't sound isolationist to me.

That's a lot of shoulds coming from a supposed Bitcoiner. How well do you think shoulding on us will work?

Probably a psyop, but very few can see that yet.

Exactly. So why not drop the push to open up bitcoin to more 'use cases' against the wishes of a large segment of bitcoiners and focus instead on making bitcoin the sound money the world needs.

>large segment of bitcoiners

speak for yourself. many people want bitcoin to have more genuine utility but all we get is a bunch of centralized lightning companies. you are part of a loud minority enabling centralization.

Gaslighting nonsense. The biggest threat to decentralisation is making it harder to run nodes. That's exactly what facilitating spam does. Bitcoin has all the utility it needs to become the dominant global store of value. Once we get there then layered payment solutions will be needed and yes that may involve centralised solutions. Satoshi foresaw the development of 'bitcoin banks' as inevitable. Bitcoin is the base layer. The base layer should be kept as simple, stable and risk free as possible.

you are the biggest threat to decentralization

A BCH appologist says what?

This is so eloquently written. The challenge/opportunity is building bridges between cyberpunks and normies (plebs) . Bitcoin won’t see massive adoption until these rails are in place.

I am slow to pay attention to people who dub themselves "cypherpunks".

I sold everything and came to #Elsalvador on a one way ticket to buildnostr:nprofile1qqstfk89k9ef8rqcfzc7knrhczwtujkdvl9mw9l3gazskc9evxjlpkqpzemhxw309a6k6cnjv4kzumr0vdskcw358q6rsqguwaehxw309a3x7um5wghxy6t5vdhkjmn50phkkmewvdhk6eqe3xk

There is No Turning back

We must keep fighting back not each other!!

Where an I get it as mp3/wav? I might mix it a bitcoin party on 3rd Jan.

Holy shit this is awesome

I hope we can see bitcoiner political parties across different governments. Let’s face it, we’re gonna have to go to their table and play their game a little, at least to get the ball rolling.
