These days I really do think that racism can only rise to prominence from state sponsorship; statism by proxy. No coincidence that people who tend to that bias highly prefer autocratic regimes.

Over the holidays, I saw a plastic statue of a black Santa Claus in a shop. Giving Santa black skin does nothing to bridge any cultural gaps--they're just turning everyone into white people. That gave me another clue to what wokism is trying to achieve

The Orange Pill Dispensary is now CLOSED. They're on their own

There are plenty of Nostriches here who post non-bitcoin content, anyway

I didn't abandon Nostr. Bear in mind that I was touching a lot of grass, too. When I came back, I took an absolute axe to my follow count and now I'm rolling with ride-or-dies only. On the whole, Nostr is great and I've made a lot of new friends here

I’ve quietly watched as something quite ugly has developed on #nostr.

Going back almost a year, I’ve spoken about the future of nostr, the inevitable beginnings of bots, fake accounts, trolls.

Even then, I realized nostr was resilient to these things, thanks to layer 2, and the portability of the core values of Bitcoin.

However, there is a separate issue that I did not give much thought to, and now I’ve seen it grow as a trend and I feel I should speak on it.

I’m talking about begging by proxy. I’m prepared to start using my end user power of filtration to mute these npubs.

I’m tired of seeing pity me posts, I’m a victim of circumstance posts, poor me posts. It’s pretty ugly to watch certain users climb in popularity by virtue of association, to later use their exposure to appeal to other users sense of pity or empathy.

I remember a conversation with a male role model in my life during my 20s where my response to his questioning as to my lack of employment, was to say “ I can’t get a job because I don’t have a car, I can’t get a car because I don’t have any money, I don’t have any money because I can’t get a job…”. This was when he explained to me that I was a victim of circumstance, but that the fault was my own.

No matter the cycle, you must find the most viable attack vector to break the cycle.

All the users on nostr have their own hardships too. This isnt a “rich ppl chatroom” where you can cry about your hardships hoping some wealthy person will have sympathy for you.

Proof of work.

Not, beg for bitcoin.

There are a few users who need to scroll back up and read this again.

Or, don’t. But you risk becoming the first person I mute.

Sorry, not sorry.

Love you plebs…

That's one of the reasons why I took a break from Nostr a couple months back. I've run into my fair share of shallow social climbers in this space. The way that Bitcoin reveals incentives is truly a blessing as it makes it easier to decide whom I want to spend my scarce time with. People who bring their baggage/fiat tactics from fiat land ALWAYS find out

Oh, I did stray from your original point lol :P I was agreeing that Nostr isn't a replacement for Insta or Xitter

"Microblogging experiment" and "dev hangout" is an apt description. I'd also tell newcomers that using Nostr entails a DIY approach where they'd get the most out of the protocol by getting their hands dirty

This isn't even Nostr's final form.

My personal prediction is that the Other Stuff will take precedence over the Notes. The implications of a decentralized relay system that is basically a sovereign Internet-of-Things are much, M U C H more far-reaching than microblogging, especially when E2E encryption matures here.

There's room for other social platforms since they each have their own strengths. As much as I look askance at its current user base, I actually think that BlueSky has a chance to outlast Xitter. Overall I think Nostriches should be more aware of its current shortcomings like key management and poor search/filtering tools

You were right the first time--they were granted permission, not freedom
