here's our approach:

its been simple enough for my use cases (targeted spam against my account)
What client are you using? I think a lot of clients can do this, or maybe only damus can?
That’s one way to do it! Could incorporate other info like zaps received as well. WoT metrics will improve over time.
Its comes and goes. The spammer seems to have turned off the targeted attack against me for now. Maybe he got bored. The replyguy spam is less effective on the damus relay due to rate limit. I think there were 2 attackers. Just imagine having thousands of attackers though…
If I used wot relays I wouldn’t have seen your message. Really bad solution that makes nostr into a bubble
I still connect public relays and just do client-side friend filtering. Wot relays aren’t the way.
Yeah i love spamming myself 🙄
https://npmrepo.com/nostr because the amount of stuff you need to get started doesn’t need to be complicated
😗 nostr:note10e3kqdw3le3md7gnngsxj2mucnurge4h6hfdcpewq2w5h8xspjhqjtf9t0
Likely a red herring. There is a bug where it sometimes doesn’t navigate the first time if it doesn’t have the note locally. I found this the other day and was putting together a fix for this.
nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is there a way to deep link into a note on Damus. Something like this would be awesome.

damus.io links deeplink
It’s a very elegant idea! Just counting the number of 0 *bits* at the start of the hash. Bitcoin uses a more sophisticated and granular approach by interpreting the difficulty as a 256-bit number. Hashcash’s downside is that it gets less granular for each bit
Nostr pow is Hashcash 😛
Yeah im getting spammed a lot via my own relay 🥲
When i’m watching v4v podcasts i used to. For fridman and mainstream ones I just use this
I reuse my nsec everywhere
It’s because they are using a radically different model than other clients. It does not connect to multiple relays, it connects to their one custom caching server which isn’t a nostr relay. So if it goes down the whole app goes down. Brittle and takes away user agency on what relays the user can connect to.
Hopefully primal 2.0 switches to a model which is less brittle and more like a normal nostr client.
Yeah each reminder is just a damus io link which has a notecrumbs preview. Since damus io links are deeplinks they open in damus. Pretty neat
We have a PR open on https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1438
I will DIP it
Hmmm maybe just a Q issue. Trezor signed it fine. I forgot coldcard is bad at taproot
yeah its not a bad idea
I love when bitcoiners think they are holier than thou because they have fees and PoW, but they still can’t stop spam in blocks. At least with relays we don’t have centralized decision making or storage, and can try different approaches (pyramid relay, pow relay, wot relay, ip rate limiting relay, ai anti spam relay, whitelist relay, rawdog yolo relay) and with outbox we can weave them together in an automatic way nostr:note19hle60l5fqq3u5d8nuvm0hgdxs0nuu7wa72ms2kv586g2p90639sa55hfk
then use a relay that promises to not ip ban, and watch if fill with spam and die.
Otherwise just use a paid relay or your own.
Exactly, they can use their own or ones filled with spam
That would only be in a scenario where some client onboards you to the wine filter relay? Thats not a thing. This would have to be something a user does purposefully to filter their view.
PoW makes most sense per-message to stop mass spamming, it makes less sense on pubkeys. But even per message is not a silver bullet because you can spin up many machines these days, i dunno
nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s nostr:npub1zafcms4xya5ap9zr7xxr0jlrtrattwlesytn2s42030lzu0dwlzqpd26k5 heads up, in iOS 18 when you open a media preview panel the app switches to dark mode until you force close. Ahh the joy of new iOS versions 😅
ah yeah we fixed that… lets not forget to add to 1.10 nostr:npub13v47pg9dxjq96an8jfev9znhm0k7ntwtlh9y335paj9kyjsjpznqzzl3l8
I assumed it was just me because they aren’t adding lots of p tags which would have been smart, but maybe that would be easier to block
I’m fine in damus ios with the friend filter, but my notedeck notification feed is useless, which reminded me to get a better WoT-scored based friend filter working over there. Started thinking of different kind of nostrdb indices for mapping who follows who and calculating WoT scores. Damus iOS does per-session friend and friend-of-friend tracking which actually works pretty well surprisingly considering how dumb it is.
Spammer seems to be targetting nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s specifically,
/me tapping “Show more” (showing posts outside WoT) on his posts:

yeah its a targeted attack that gets around my rate limiter. i’m already thinking of new kinds of tools on my relay to visualize number of notes coming from certain ip addresses, and a management tool that can ban them with a click.
Attacking me is either really dumb or smart depending on how well they want spam protections to improve.
yeah I’ve never had to turn on damus friend filter full time until now. My notification feed is full of spam otherwise.
rate limiter is blocking 80% of it but some still slip through. If they are ip blocked it should slow them down even more
nostr:nprofile1qqsr9cvzwc652r4m83d86ykplrnm9dg5gwdvzzn8ameanlvut35wy3gpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduq3qamnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3wwa5kuegpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0wd68ytnsw43q3ttcfs how has Damus relay eliminated reply guy? Just IP based rate limiting?
yeah
Last night i was on the couch playing oldschool RuneScape on my phone while my airpods were connected to my apple tv with a show on. I dunno if android devices can do that but connecting my airpods to my tv is such a killer feature i use all the time since my couch is far away.
Nah we used to have that option but removed it since it was a bit confusing. We are moving toward a first class relay approach (think discord, where you click a relay and start posting inside of it)
the only question is what the motivation is? also amazing he can keep up the lie for so long. just for fame? to stay out of trouble with the government after something he did at area 51, like the watch parties? that's the only thing that makes sense to me. maybe staying in the spotlight helps somehow.
there was no scientific data generated by that show. they have never made it public.
in fact, they made many glaring errors. the funniest one was the the "black hole"/wormhole thing. it was just missing sensor data and they interpreted it as a "wormhole". they are either idiots or are scamming. that episode made me think it was scamming.
