What’s the best way to get good at chess? #asknostr

Hello! I just installed Nostr client on my handphone because I read that it was a decentralised version of twitter with less fascism. So far, it looks good. But after reading your post, here are some things I don't understand:

* Zaps

* Lightning address

* Npub

* NIP-60 ewallet

All of this is techno gobbledygook to me. Do I really need to decipher all this stuff to chat on a social network using my handphone?

Perspective

I spend a lot of time in the asknostr hashtag helping folks out. Absolutely one of the most common pain points is figuring out how to both send and receive zaps. Usually, they will have their lightning address in their profile so they can receive, but they haven't yet connected their wallet to be able to send.

Or else they are Primal users who set up the integrated wallet on mobile and are wondering where it is on the web, or why they can't use the same balance on another Nostr client, or they forgot to add the lightning address to their profile...

The friction of getting set up for both receiving AND sending zaps from the same wallet can be exceptionally frustrating for folks.

Meanwhile, NIP-60 eCash wallets can completely alleviate this. Log into a new client? Don't have to set anything up. Your eCash is already loaded and ready for zapping, locked to your npub so it can travel with you from client to client. And even easier for brand new users. The client can add a lightning address for a default mint to their kind 0 profile at the time they onboard and they can immediately send and receive zaps.

I'm a noob, is it bad that I zap using no KYC coinos?

We have every possible integration with Lightning you can imagine. I can't think of a scenario where you would not be able to pay a bolt11 and be done with it.

have you looked at people's LUD16s? almost everybody and their mother are on custodial zappers, even people that run LN nodes.

Cashu is strictly an improvement over CUSTODIAL lightning.

And since it uses lightning, you can just continue zapping without ever running a mint or having a sat under custody, the only difference for you will be that instead of paying a bolt11 of wallet of satoshi or strike you'll pay a bolt11 of one of hundreds/thousands of mints.

Many contexts where it makes sense.

A company could pay its employees from its mint, obfuscating who received which coins, then each employee could convert at will his tokens.

A family could run a mint for all members, maintaining a single lightning node for everyone.

Etc...

I'd be interested to look into these clients. any links? I'll run cashu if I have to buy that sounds annoying as f

That only makes sense if you use someone else's lightning gateway but honestly at that point just use your own lightning node directly imo

A #damus purple feature that would be great would be a “what did I miss” summary 🤔 One of the only things I dislike about #nostr is once it’s passed, unless people are reacting or sharing it, or you go scrolling back… you can miss a lot… 🥺

It would be a shame, nostr is built on owning your voice, your identity, shipping the money part off to shadow custodians so quickly doesn’t feel right

why would they release an app the the public that's not built yet? alpha releases are for fans and early adopters. not the masses.

Though I am not sure the world will be split between people and non people. It is likely that we will all follow and love AI content in the future.
