LOL. Bitcoin has some 10,000 nodes, which all constantly replicate all data amongst each other.
With Nostr I publish data to a set number of relays (11 in my case), and the data is not rebroadcast. If they delete it, it's gone forever (and I dont even notice)
Great no one can alter my notes, but they can be suppressed by the relays or deleted altogether. I really have no guarantee that what I want to tell the world, can be seen by the world; I have to trust that some unknown operator(s) will be so kind to serve it.
If I want to make really sure stuff exists and is accessible to everyone (e.g. my blogs Git repos, Shopstr listings, etc), then I am back to self hosting.
Name me a single person who is part of the committee that approved this. Unknown behind the scenes decision makers.
I learned 'the Cloud is just someone else's server' (which can't be trusted/relied on). How is Nostr any different ?
#askNostr
Keet is not, despite all the gaslighting.
Some 500+ libraries are, and they say that Keet is just a UI for these. But no one can verify that claim - you have to trust them that the Keet binary does not contain some additional malicious code
Yeah you're weird. Both are just represented as a digital balance in an app. Why would one feel more tangible than the oyher?
Yeah, CONTRIBUTING should be basic instructions on forking, branch setup/naming, setting up Dev environment, making a good PR etc
If you can, run a #SignalProxy !
1) Every project seeking collaboration should have a CONTRIBUTING[.]md page with guidelines.
You wouldn't believe how many people are struggling with and are afraid of the basics:
Do I need to fork first? Should the change be a branch on my fork, or on master? How to do a proper PR? Etc
2) Maintainers should provide Good First Issues on GH , well scoped, with clear description and what's expected (DOD), and (most importantly) hints/instructions how to get started to encourage
3) These would ideally by encouraged by bounties (sats)
The absolutely most brilliant reference project on how to encourage and empower collaborators is nostr:nprofile1qqsq4qcw4c0z3jq3nlselj46qxumysl8hndd8sgy89r6nxq2c8jlspspzdmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2ue0j5k08k .
This is not new phenomenon, it's called Tragedy of the commons.
You obviously could make them all payable, but then ppl would just use the "free" alternative (Twitter)
If ppl checkout with Google Pay on online purchase (not contactless on a POS), do you still see card holder name, card number etc? I would have assumed if Apple/Google Pay is used, always only DPAN is transmitted
Can't get it to work when running ProtonVPN (even if both devices are on the same VPN server)
"All because the EU has no mechanism for self-correcting its legislative failures, even with years of evidence in the bag. The bureaucratic maze almost guarantees that all the noble intentions eventually find a dead end in which to get stuck" 💯
Afaik (I'm not an expert here), Apple pay/Google pay et al generate a device specific Device PAN (essentiy a fake Id) of your card, and they only transfer a token to the merchant. I.e. the merchant does not see your actual card number, nor who you are. Apple/Google of course do..
Merchants can track DPANs to e.g. identify recurring purchases of you (without knowing who you are). But the same Credit Card on different devices will generate different DPANs...so you could add your one card to diff wallets to throw off the tracking a bit (not very practical though)
That's what I could find on the topic:
Can I connect the Alby Browser extension to my own self-hosted AlbyHub on my domain?
Their payment processor (Coinpayments.net) no longer supports Lightning :(
Great work demonstrating this attack!
The BitBox02 was actually the first wallet to fix this:
https://bitbox.swiss/blog/anti-klepto-explained-protection-against-leaking-private-keys/
I remember listening to Stadicus on a podcast right when the BitBox02 came out (was still quite a noob), explaining their approach to privacy and fully open source - and I know this is the only HWW I'd trust.
Never looked back since 🤙
The problem is not the trading. But assuming that BTC will magically make you money, while you fuck around with your hobbies.
BTC is censorship resistant money, not some automatic magic "NgU tech"
Indeed.
NWC + own node and/or a self-hosted AlbyHub are also great alternatives
Important update: Mutiny Wallet will be winding down operations by the end of the year.
We're exploring new directions as a company. For full details on the shutdown and our future plans, please read our latest blog post: https://blog.mutinywallet.com/mutiny-wallet-is-shutting-down/
Sad to hear this. Mutiny has been prime on what what is currently possible in Lightning on mobile. If they couldn't sustain it without going custodially, i doubt anyone can.
From an end user UX perspective we really have not progressed much further than 2019' nostr:nprofile1qqsvtnw4wdly0a2zdjw75fpszggja430hfa4x3ugdqtqdault2uks2spr9mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuumwdae8gtnnda3kjctv9upjesmn (lite wallet with reliable Sent + custodial component for Receive, up to a limit)
