Direct realist, individualist, libertarian, dove. Trying to overcome my biases.

Since you mentioned the film, I should link to the Smithereens song (with Suzanne Vega).

Oh, good. I love that album. I think the title track is my favorite, but there are so many contenders.

It’s been a while since I saw In a Lonely Place; I should watch it again. I remember I liked the ending.

You’re welcome. I was trying to lean into a quiet mood, but I guess everyone else was cheering you up. 🤷

I don’t think #[3] is saying consumers always pay for the things they consume. He’s saying consumer goods always cost something to produce, so free glasses and tampons aren’t a possibility. The only choice is whether their consumers pay for them, or someone else does.

I like personal Memorial Day, where we remember loved ones who are no longer with us. The government’s ceremonies sell war by promising future honors.

Good interview with #TylerCowen about #AI risks. While he expects AI to be disruptive, he does not believe that doomsayers have made their case. Climate change and COVID worriers put out mathematical models that could be discussed and evaluated, both theoretically and empirically. AI catastrophists don’t have models. Cowen also believes they have overestimated the value of intelligence.
