lemmy is pretty much worthless. 90% of the people who touch it are spiritual redditors. you are left to rummage through the network searching for the small number of communities that haven't been completely invaded by socialist soyboys and wholesome chunguses, and that can change at any time.

we never got the osama bin laden animal crossing save but this will suffice
the state of .i2p addresses isn't that great. you own your b32.i2p address, but if you want a vanity i2p address you basically go to a registrar and ask for them to pretty please add it to a text file. it's first come first served, and they selectively mirror each other. you don't own it and there's nothing stopping a registrar from pointing it at something else. they may also drop it at their own discretion for made up reasons like if the contents of your eepsite are "overtly offensive." the obvious solution would be to just do the associations on a blockchain thing but this hasn't been built out yet.
the P365 doesn't have this flaw. it's a completely different design
start poking holes in the security model or the emission schedule and they immediately start screeching "keynesian!!!"
this is the 247th time I've seen a bitcoin maxi claim immunity from criticism or having to make an actual argument by calling the other person a keynesian
let's replace visa and mastercard with a payment network that 95% of people will never be able to use without going through a custodian. I mean come on, I put the B logo on it and everything. that means it's better, right?
this week in our six part series on cognitive biases, we're going to explore the ikea effect.

there is a way of thinking among social conservatives where they don't want to accept personal responsibility for having bad thoughts, or for their children having bad thoughts. they want to be able to blame someone else whenever they think about anything "sinful."
it's extremely similar to how socialist soyboys don't want to be responsible for their own consumer choices or what they do with their own money. if anything goes wrong, they love to point the finger.
on lemmy, how much more effort do you have to put in to avoid feeling like you logged into "ihaterepublicans.com" compared to something like r*ddit? I don't want to go in there and have every other post complaining about some stupid thing like that.

I'm not (currently) a drivechain stan btw. I am leaning towards a design such as rootstock + a refined bitvm bridge being closer to the ideal mined L2
which places in lemmy do you like? I'm still struggling with the "mastodon effect" of all the stuff that's easy to find being full of socialism and furries and garbage. except I did find out about monero.town.
the base app will use farcaster for microblogging and xmtp for instant messaging
farcaster has sections of its microblogging universe that can be carved out and controlled by moderators
I still use the fediverse every day. it's not all mastodon and it's not all furries. the biggest difference for me is a sense of community. we care about who our admins are and they have no trouble reaching out for help when they encounter problems. instances also function like groups. I understand that the activitypub model suffers from weaknesses... I still don't get these kinds of feelings when I just publish my notes to a dozen relays. I don't give a fuck about who is running these relays. it feels too impersonal.

>You can't scam with bitcoin
you're a gigantic fucking idiot who got dropped on the head when you were a baby
the base wallet is just a rebranding of coinbase wallet. it's technically a self-custody wallet that supports seed phrases. it will pressure you into using an EVM network called Base which, despite being centralized, does inherit an acceptable amount of security from the ethereum network on account of being an OP stack rollup. it supports more networks as well. base wallet will also pressure you into using passkeys instead of seed phrases.
smart contracts and protocols that you interact with using wallets such as base are not guaranteed to be decentralized. but to be fair, the b*tcoin stuff like boltz isn't decentralized either. glass houses and that.
We both probably already were in discussion like this, right? π
But for the sake of argument:
- How does monero scale?
- What is so simple monero wallet?
- How can monero beat bitcoin in terms of value it stores?
- For privacy related fight I would need to summon nostr:npub1yxp7j36cfqws7yj0hkfu2mx25308u4zua6ud22zglxp98ayhh96s8c399s
super testnet deliberately conflates opsec mistakes with network flaws. he's never an honest person
one day, cross chain atomic swaps will be shiny and new and easy. it will wipe your tears clean
re: chinese onlyfans ban is le based
if a sinful thought pops into my head, I love to point the finger at someone else and say, "it's his fault!" I will never accept responsibility for bad thoughts. it's the responsibility of the government to accept the chinese jesus and make bad thought inducing materials illegal. only then can I be free. praise xi jinping.

you really think it's totally impossible for best korea to have their own hacker group tasked with financial cybercrime, or that they are illegitimate because they don't meddle in your favorite american political drama?
if I get trashed I end up watching shit like this
>I think liquid, ecash are worth the risk
obstructionist incantations. we have people all over the place like vermin insisting to completely ossify the network because "hey, liquid and ecash are here, that's all the masses will ever need," and "MY channel only cost me tree fiddy and I have a bachelor's degree in burning my eyes out in front of a computer for 17 hours a day, so everyone should use lightning."
I don't fall into the trap of assessing the risks of these garbage protocols in the context of what the current network consensus allows us to have. this is why I advocate for the death of ossification proponents. I'm also lumping them in with liquid and ecash cheerleaders. they're all accomplishing the same thing.
self-custody lightning fucking sucks and every day I am floored by the number of people who keep pretending it doesn't
this is what the instructions for self-custody lightning wallets sound like to sane people

L-BTC and cashu sats aren't bitcoin
bolivian death spider. makes your peen swell to the size of an american football then u die
I really wish phone manufacturers would begin cramming lora radios in there
this will lead to a security budget crisis after enough halvings, but when the fees are high it just scares people away.
proton's products are legit mediocre but I doubt they are on the same autism wavelength as you
because you need to keep track of which lots you still have and which lots you don't have anymore. tax software needs to keep track of the consumption of partial lots according to the FIFO method. even if you make a payment under $600 you still need to tell the tax software that this payment consumed all or some of specific lots, so that in case you make a larger payment later it doesn't try to consume those same lots a second time.
if you just completely neglect to track which lots are consumed by payments under $600 it becomes totally impossible to accurately assign lots to any future payments. it sounds more like you are searching for excuses to be lazy and just not track your capital gains and losses at all. it will be easier to take you seriously if you just come out and say that you know what the rules are and you refuse to follow them. it sounds more like you don't actually know what the rules are and you don't understand how to follow them either.
I'm about to lose track of which meta you're trying to do right now
super testnet knows that DEXes belong in their own category. he's pretending like he doesn't on purpose, to irritate you.
btw uniswap is the world's biggest DNM and it's ETH only, because it happens to have an onion frontend :-p
Looks like you have a fundamental misunderstanding. There are many kinds of consensus valid transactions (which fees are attached to) that Bitcoin Core configurations have always filtered. See https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/96970/what-valid-transactions-are-not-broadcastable
Spammers pay fees for their internet too. So why not disable all your email spam filters and let all that trash in?
if there's at least one miner who doesn't have autism, you'll store the valid transactions that you don't like regardless, and meanwhile your fee estimation will be wrong. you have a terminal case of having your cake and eating it too. go and fork off and create your own network where transactions you don't agree with are invalid.
monero wallets require the user to download all blocks since the wallet creation date and scan them for the user's transactions. the user doesn't have to scan everything back from 2014 or store blocks that have already been scanned.
there's definitely an unresolved UX issue here and it's one of my biggest complaints with monero, but it's not as bad as you suggested. there is some work being done on making light clients safer but it's not finished yet.
