Privacy is a human right and necessary for freedom. - VP of Operations at Cake Wallet - Privacy advocate - Host of optoutpod.com, a privacy-focused podcast

So, uh, if we overlook the obvious address re-use this is pretty damn awesome.

Hell of a way to orange-pill a great author.

Idk the details of how it's implemented, though I'd hope it's not sending all text to Google this is an entirely public network.

I'd assume Amethyst is only translating notes and not Zap comments etc.

It continues to work beautifully as digital cash and a more private alternative to Bitcoin 🤷‍♂️

Not sure why people think it's a "winner takes all" scenario, both are amazing tools that serve different purposes today.

Best case scenario Bitcoin becomes as private as Monero and we don't need a Monero anymore, would gladly embrace that 🙂

True, but deeply connected to the system in almost every way.

When the banks start sending you the "don't worry, everything is fine" emails, it's time to be worried.

Much less worrying with Bitcoin and Monero in my tool belt, just high time to onboard others before they suffer more than necessary.

TBF they have a point legally, but obviously it's a mess to have companies suing each other over naming in the space.

Note that fluffypony (one of the other founders of Tari) hasn't been involved in Monero since like 2018 and Tari has no direct connections.

Definitely my favorite episode so far, love being able to help people take actionable steps to gain freedom through Bitcoin.

Would love feedback and thoughts on the episode!

Should be easy to encrypt it to your own pubkey and store as an event I would think, but would need a new NIP.

Will think on it.

Hopefully this doesn't mean the end of the last remaining anonymous cash-for-SIM option in the US...

Clients choose how to send a Zap, either public, private, or anonymous.

Those choices dictate how much info from the payee is included and are important to default to private or anonymous.

Of course the recipient can just not setup NIP-57 to protect their own privacy on the receive side.

I definitely agree, but I do see merit in allowing the recipient to display Zap amounts on a post as a better skin-in-the-game alternative to likes on posts.

I don't see much harm in revealing that a payment of X amount was revealed at a given time as long as payee details are not included.

Going to chat all things bank runs and bailouts today on Twitter Spaces:

Going to work on getting the next episode setup for streaming to Nostr Nests as well, but didn't have time before today's Space, sadly!

This is why anon/private Zaps *have* to be the default in Nostr clients.

Until then we're undermining all of the privacy provided by Lightning for practically no reason. While amounts need to be displayed in Nostr clients for effective social usage, no info on payee or comment should be a core part of things unless a user opts-in to revealing that info.

We have a chance to make privacy the default.
