Suits know that the first thing you need to do when you enter a new space is build your reputation. Cory spent a lot of time on this. He built a network of podcasters and media who either already had a good reputation in the space, or built one up with his backing. I don't look at this as a good or bad thing, it's a good strategy. What happens next is where it gets interesting. What do you do when you have built up that trust? It feels like Swan is at that point where the next step in the strategy is being implemented.
Telling people not to trust someone is not throwing shade here, it's just good advice.

Is there a way to make a voip type client for nostr? Is that essentially what nests is? If we want to onboard gamers I think that would be a big deal.

Beware the rock of wretched lies
Its face is cracked and filled with eyes.
Its roots spread under every tree
And feeds them poison carefully.
It keeps the the husks of blackened wood
Until they fall where once they stood.
And where new life should then replace
The rock decides what takes its place.
Beware the rock of rolling hills
Fed with endless printed bills
A bottomless pit that makes you part
Of its black and twisted heart.
It knows exactly what you think
By making you become the fink
That feeds it with your energy
Until you fall like every tree.
Beware the rock thats black and takes
What every single builder makes
And crushes slowly with its weight
The fruit your labour doth create.
You can't escape its gaping jaws
It owns the ones who make the laws.
And when you try to start anew
It pulls the rug from under you.
Beware the bitcoin etf
That obfuscates the growing left.
The time it chains is yours you see
Because it keeps in custody
The only finite source of truth
Of work youve done til now from youth.
If bitcoin wins then it will fail
And when cumbles all will wail.
No one is attacking anyone here, we're having a conversation. My point stands, although you don't seem to grasp it. An educator is what they are because they are downstream of the innovator. I didn't use the word programmer specifically because those who fund the projects are as integral to the projects as the bodies that build them.
If you take a second to understand the point of my post, I think you'd agree. Or you can take it as a personal attack. The choice is yours, I care not.
All they have to do is prevent the content they don't want from finding its way to the npcs who won't go looking for it. They don't need to silence us, just make us look "fringe".
I'm pretty comfortable being off base, but I don't think I am here. Not to be overly harsh, but if you're ashamed of the profession that you chose, do something else.
1) saying you aren't an influencer doesn't magically make it so regardless of the meme
2) the network of influence that you've built is not exactly something I would say I'm appreciative of. When your body of work is akin to a social media account (podcasts, written articles, etc) you are not a builder (yes i am aware of 1031 and i am speaking in generalizations). I don't mean that slanderously. It's just factual. It's important that people know what's going on in the industry, therefore podcasts have value. But don't make the hubristic mistake of believing you know what youre talking about when you have zero practical experience identifying technical problems in systems and implementing theoretical fixes to those problems.
STAY HUMBLE
3. Happy new year
My opinion about things being broken in the protocol is as irrelevant as yours, I just don't think weighing in against the good faith builders with the number of followers in your orbit is productive or a good idea.
Sorry to tag you specifically, there are lots of names I could throw out that would fall into the same category. When influencers like yourself get too big for their britches they end up thinking that their opinion is more valuable than it really is. Because of the influence they have over the ignorant followers in their own community, they actually do have a certain (albeit minute) sway over the protocol.
Just like how the longer you've been in the space the more compounding you've seen in both your knowledge and your stack, your feelings of validation and confidence expand as your body of work grows. The problem is, without practical experience in the building of things, you don't have the perspective to back your beliefs or knowledge. I think my analogy around construction is an apt one. I'll try another:
A streamer who streams a particular video game and plays that game really well, and has been playing for years, has a great understanding of the game and how to play it. He also has a considerable influence on what is popular within that game's community. That doesn't mean he knows the first thing about what changes will break that game. Even the devs often don't know, but it requires constant maintenance and actively looking for potential problems in order to find them before they become consequential.
That's why when someone who is able to point out potential problems from a position of practical experience does so, the correct course of action is to investigate, corroborate, collaborate, and eliminate by the least invasive means possible.
Again, sorry to pick on you when i could easily have put another influencer like nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx or whoever else on the other side of the particular debate that was on my mind.
Merry Christmas
The need for creative destruction in the bitcoin podcast "industry" is fucking real.
Once a person who is not involved in the production of functional things is too influential over the public opinion, there becomes a growing bifrication between reality and perception of the industry. This could be said of any industry. If there were a bunch of likeable dudes making content about construction, but who had zero experience building things, listeners will just generally think that the guy talking at them twice a week about the need for more shear walls in a 10 story wood frame building and the necessity of fire caulking the 3 million 7/8 holes in top and bottom plates has any applicable problem solving experience and has an opinion that should hold any weight.
You can talk to the people who build things all you want, but until you start your own PoW, you are not a God damn expert.
I have no hate for the guy, but nostr:npub1cf3zeytdnwgwzz5pk2ax0vvmmlzad03xcft4d50ejrfhsh8pxcdsefx7gk is the perfect example of this. The bitcoin magazine hardline take on ordinals/brc 20 stuff just seems like an attempt to influence the ignorant into thinking that builders should avoid fixing structural issues.
Saying that an unintended consequence of a change is what it is and now we just have to live with it, is out of step with industry, and with reality. If a building is swaying in a way that could be problematic because of a change in construction material, you don't say "well, I guess it's just going to sway like that forever." You increase the support and prove out the structure.
Then again, I'm just a dummy who builds buildings...
This is a place where the irreverent gather. Expect no quarter, no sympathy, no grace, and no love and you can only be pleasantly surprised when it occurs. Welcome to the internet.
I've lived in Canada for 35 years and I have never seen a bag of milk at a store. Only wholesale for ice cream shops and such.
"When the promise is broken, you go on living
It steals something from down in your soul
Like when the truth is told, and it don't make no difference
Something in your heart goes cold"
What I enjoy about virtue ethics is how its study can be be applied practically in one's life.
What I dislike about about deontology is how granular it can become when you start looking at different levels of action and barriers to your actions.
What I find interesting about consequentialism is how well it fits with an atheistic, deterministic world view, or even simulation theory.
Sorry Saif, but this is just false. I work in remote locations frequently and it's night and day since Starlink became a thing. Prior to it I would have no access to the outside world for weeks at a time, now it's just the standard to have internet available. While there were other remote services prior to Starlink, they were literally never brought to a site because of the outrageous expense.
