I want to use #Keet, but for some of us, not being fully open source is a problem.

Keet have explained their thinking, but there's a reason the most secure and trusted code is OS.

I've noted the absence of Matt Odell mentioning or enthusing for Keet beyond its initial launch announcement, which I take as a sign he may have concerns.

nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx, any chance you could cover Keet in a Citadel Dispatch if you have any inside info to add?

How do they stop the coming bank runs?

By closing the physical branches

(internet access can then be turned off with one button press at central office whenever things get hot)

I was moved to tears several times at Bitcoin Atlantis in Madeira.

The quality, sincerity, generosity, kindness, respect, and encouragement which characterize the interactions I had is on a level I’ve never before witnessed or experienced.

All those people, with a shared passion and dedication for the mission, humbled by all which it represents, interacting with each other as fundamentally equal, but experientially and intellectually unique, creates the best possible foundation for friendship, for mutual understanding, for helping and supporting each other, or for just hanging out and basking in the shared experience, and whatever forces are generating it.

It’s become such a consistent occurrence (though more pronounced each time) that it’s easy to forget just how special it is.

Bitcoin (only) conferences aren’t ‘industry events’, they are little wormholes to the future that flash open for a few days so people can feel what things are like when we orient and express our actions around such a form of truth - as represented in, accessed through, and propagated by, bitcoin.

‘Number go up’ is great and necessary, and none of this would happen without it, but it’s a ‘means’, not an ‘ends’.

What is experienced between people when they are so humbled by the truth, and so lifted and liberated by its presence, is the true nexus of creative inspiration, from which all that is good and beautiful may spring. That is the true ‘ends’, which we might simply understand to be alignment with the generative force we call ‘love’, and the products thereof.

Not the phony, wishy-washy, ‘everyone can be right’ kind of ‘love’, but the one which allows for argument and debate, honest feedback and opinion, while remaining grounded in a paramount aim that is movement toward Truth, which subordinates any divisive differences to this, ultimately uniting, shared objective.

Anyways, Bitcoin Atlantis just reminded me how incredible what’s happening here really is, and how much of a pleasure and honour it is to be sharing it with you (you know who you are).

Thank you.

🧡

Thank YOU John.

You are one of the very special people in the space.

My only sadness about your current focus on your book (assuming that is why you have gone quiet), is that I greatly miss your podcasts.

You have a choice about putting your money into x (BTC) or y (USD):

a) x / 21million

b) y / infinity

Only junior maths required to see that for any x greater than zero, option a) wins.

Blink Wallet seems like a great replacement for WoS.

Like WoS it's custodial in order to bring ease of use. But imho Blink has upsides over WoS: the team is transparent, and have been building and working in El Salvador (so trust has been built). And there is an option to convert/hold a form of stable USD built into the wallet.

Those with traditional financial advisors... are you paying attention?

FLASHING STARTOS TO RECYCLED THINKPADS & DISTRIBUTING AT LOCAL BITCOIN MEETUPS GRASSROOTS AF. nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll nostr:npub1pfezegswrn8lpt0aerp2hvyhj4lsuzln9kcccs5p7qch2m2sawxsxcelvf

I may have had a few glasses of wine but had an idea to increase the activity and value of local Bitcoin Meetups. It's a synthesis of grassroots Bitcoin adoption components : full node and Lightning node growth, hacking, lowest hanging fruit free market economics & Bitcoin circular economies.

1). Basically, I've tried almost every node project under the sun. Flashing StartOS to old Thinkpads has really impressed me recently however. The progress they've made and near future roadmap is phenomenal.  Listening to CEO Matt Hill preach on the importance of sovereign computing, the homelab revolution and the cloud being someone else's computer seems so relevent right now. StartOS is also MIT licence so completely free to distribute and sell preinstalled.

2). I'm a used Thinkpad geek and can't stop compulsively collecting them. nostr:npub1pfezegswrn8lpt0aerp2hvyhj4lsuzln9kcccs5p7qch2m2sawxsxcelvf Twitter@wtogami (Blockstream/Fedora) has a Used Thinkpad for LN nodes community that's worth a look. Apparently Start9 have just begun selling preinstalled recycled laptops and desktop PCs. I think this recycled niche has great potential and appeal rn.

3) I loosely organise a local Bitcoin Meetup nostr:npub103a6vk43crw497dlaptwfmhctxqu22mwepshjcvvp29fzwrhtx4q675n6p and would love to inculcate and bring to life more full node adoption, self sovereign computing, grassroots local Bitcoin circular economy and community.

ACTION PLAN :

Local Meetup organisers consider leveraging their position to distribute to interested new Bitcoiners cheap repurposed computers like Thinkpads and Thinkcentres with StartOS preinstalled before password setup. We resell these to Meetup attendees for Lightning base cost reimbursement along with some minor hand holding through StartOS's well documented & refined MIT licensed sovereign computing OS.

It's a low risk, high return educational activity that brings to life the free market principles of Bitcoin circular economies and decentralised computing in the face of the Cloud based Big Brother Final Boss.

Interesting idea.

Bukele is a hero to most bitcoiners, and his authoritarian policies appear popular in his country.

But he is trampling over basic human rights, and nostr:npub1trr5r2nrpsk6xkjk5a7p6pfcryyt6yzsflwjmz6r7uj7lfkjxxtq78hdpu is right to keep reminding us.

US interest payments on its debt soon hitting $1 trillion / quarter.

150 million tax payers in US.

That's $6667 (or $26k / year) per tax payer...
