Come to think of it, I just processed the Autumn olives into a paste, basically removing the seeds. So I didn’t “juice” them. What does your juice taste like? Tart, sweet, bland?

Progress on grafting onto a cut off Bradford pear. March grafting day on left and today’s photo on the right. This is after I cut off a lot of sprouts from the Bradford.

It’s Kieffer and Shinko scions grafted onto the Bradford stump. Some grafts took and some didn’t, but overall a success.

I’ve got a patch in the woods on my property but I haven’t cleared out any overstory trees yet. I did plant a bunch of seedlings around the patch to try to get some genetically pollinizers to increase fruit production. Patches are often genetically one tree.

Yep, I’ve been grafting some edible European and Asian pear varieties onto the decorative pear trees that have spread over much of the US.

Nice! Are your pawpaw patches all one tree with a whole bunch of suckers, like they tend to be? I hope you get a good harvest this year.

Some of the guerrilla grafting I’ve done in my neighborhood onto “invasive” Bradford pear trees in common areas are starting to bear fruit.

Nice! That ought to last a while. If you have success with the kiwis (hardy I assume), let me know the secret. Same with the Honeyberries. I’m in zone 6a/6b in KY.

I don’t remember the exact recipe we used but it was mostly tallow and had zinc oxide as the sunscreen. My daughter also made a little batch with some cocoa powder added as kind of an instant tan look. It went on nicely and felt good on our skin. I don’t recall how much zinc oxide we used but we still got burned so I remember thinking I would triple the amount next time.

We made some sunscreen with tallow last year. It worked OK but it needed a lot more of the sunscreen than what we put in it.

Great idea. Straight cuttings pushed directly into the soil? Let us know how well they do!

I’ve been busy guerrilla grafting onto “invasive” Bradford pears in rights of way around here.

I’m not drinking anymore.

I’m not drinking any less, either.

Absolutely! The birds and other wildlife will take their share.
