Food experiments Du Jour. I bartered for some bicolor Shiso plants last year and didn’t realize how easily they re-seed. My lily pond was half hidden by Shiso volunteers, so I did some google-fu. Turns out the stuff makes an amazing tea and syrup. It turns a beautiful shade of fuchsia when a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice ups the acidity. According to Japanese tradition the now green wilted leaves can be salted and lacto-fermented then dried for a super nutritive addition to plain rice. Furikake is variations of this dried Shiso with sesame seeds and dried fish flakes. Because of the trace minerals and nutrients in these ingredients, it was essential to prevent “rice starvation” or beriberi in times of food shortage. I’m doing the keto thing so rice will not be on the menu. But, I did find out that dehydrating other lacto-ferments that didn’t turn out perfectly crispy will turn them into UMAMI BOMBS. My whole house reeks of failed ferments of onion, tomato, and radishes. The first taste test is pretty amazing. I can’t wait to see how the fermented Shiso turns out. It got me to thinking about ways to integrate dried lacto-ferments into long term food storage for extra trace minerals and nutrients in otherwise bland food. #grownostr #diy #homesteading #foodstr #growyourown

The usual iPad password storage and a pen and paper for the others. Once again, for my phone as soon as I tapped the box for inputting the key, it came up with that invalid message. I never got to saving it there.

I didn’t get a chance to. As soon as I type in the first character it puts up a line underneath it saying it’s an invalid login.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t ever install ad blockers, but something might be interfering. As soon as I type the iris or snort addresses into the box and hit enter, the whole screen of the browser goes black. Safari and Firefox. I might try downloading a new browser and see if that does it.

Thanks, I kinda figured what that was, seeing the instant response and odd syntax. I’ll take whatever help works and be glad of it tho.

Okay, i think I’m getting the hang of nostr, but I want to send this question out there. I log in on my iPad which is nice but it doesn’t have any photos or good stuff to post and share. When I try to log in on my iPhone, it just says “invalid login” when I try to enter anything. It would be a lot easier to just use my phone and upload fun stuff from there if I could. I have a different problem with my desktop. When I go to iris or snort, all that comes up is an unresponsive blank black screen I hope it’s just something I’m doing wrong and not that my devices are too old or something. Suggestions anyone? #nostrhelp #grownostr

And I finally just bought my first bitcoin and paid my first bitcoin invoice today. Yay!

Eggs. No idea what but probably some kind of insect.

Hobbies and income generating activities have blurred lines here. All forms of art media as well as most traditiona crafts- woodworking, glass, pottery, bookbinding, fiber arts of all kinds (basketry, spinning, weaving etc.). I’m now teaching myself how to cut and polish all manner of gemstones. Next up is learning silversmithing. I also enjoy lots of prepping/survival type hobbies like gardening, hunting, foraging and learning to prepare and preserve the food I get. Funny how much you can do when you don’t have a television.

I do it by staying away from screens as much as possible. The most productive idea time is when I just sit with my coffee in the morning and quietly take in the surroundings. Even that might take practice. I’ve been a full time artist for awhile now and even so, the ideas don’t always arrive when I want. Sometime so many happen that I keep a notebook handy for scribbling. Amazing when you sit and see everything man made around you - was someone’s idea first. They’re not crazy if they work and turn into something. #dontsettleforanofftheshelflife

I recently build a special portable furnace for doing the backyard aluminum casting thing. Someone near here is making money by pouring molten aluminum down fire ant holes and selling the abstract sculpture it makes. I think I could do that! Surely it’s more unpleasant than orange oil. Function stacking. Kill the ants, fun and dangerous activity, recycle aluminum, and sell the results.

Reminds me of getting a group pic with y’all and Niti at Rogue Food.

This is where the “ like” button isn’t quite right, but definitely worth an acknowledgment. I’ve come to appreciate Dr Gabor Mate’s point about how ADD/ADHD isn’t a disorder but more of a coping response to the toxic environment people are in that for whatever reason, they cannot escape. The System doesn’t benefit from people understanding that since it empowers us to fix ourselves and not be their cash cows for life.
