What happened to nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm ?
It seems like the simple “install this browser extension” user experience is replaced with a more complicated flow that requires running nodes?
Was this a regulatory change forced on them?
I don’t think I want to pay 21,000 sats a month because I barely used it, last time I logged in to it was 1 year ago.
Is there no way to do pay as you go 😅
I would imagine the same thing that prompted WoS to back out of the U.S. plays a factor in ending the custodial offering. After all, I believe that was when Alby went invite only, too.
However, it sounds like they also didn't want to have to maintain a large node with a ton of liquidity locked into lightning channels to accommodate the number of people using their service, some of them for over 1m sats at a time before transferring to cold storage. I must admit I was one of the lunatics doing so.
Instead, they are offering various ways for you to hold your own keys and take advantage of the browser extension UX + Lightning address, and I hear a mobile app is also coming. Only one of those ways requires payment.
That note is a year old. Nostr wasn't dead then, and it's not dead now.

I think nostr:nprofile1qqs0nkg0t2yqvgxgfutea482lxhy6aj5vjqe28nfgx02l56ctehvjxcpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzv9hxgtctxqxj2 did one but can't remember if it was umbrel or start9.
Is there a difference between outbox/inbox? I thought you'd just be changing settings(?)
Outbox is a relay that you can post to and others can read. Inbox is a relay that others can post to in order for you to read.
They can be the same relay if you want, but what is important to me is others being able to read it. Hence outbox.
#Nostr hive-mind, can anyone point me to a tutorial for running a publicly accessible outbox relay on an Umbrel?

If you are running Citrine, you may be able to restore your follows from there, otherwise https://metadata.nostr.com/ is your best bet.
In fact, I would first install Obtainium and then install zap.store through there by copy/pasting the GitHub releases link above into Obtainium, as then you will be alerted about any updates to zap.store.
You can get Obtainium here: https://github.com/ImranR98/Obtainium/releases
Any issue downloading it from here?
Yes, it will! ☺️ We actually hope to have a first alpha release out for testing, within a few weeks. We had to go back to the drawing board and fiddle with the design, some more, after we changed the spec for the events we're using. I'll issue a call for testers in the note announcing the version.
But that doesn't really help with my core problem that only a few repos (including ours and those from nostr:npub15qydau2hjma6ngxkl2cyar74wzyjshvl65za5k5rl69264ar2exs5cyejr ) are getting responses from the repo users and maintainers.
Can't help with the GitHub woes, but will be standing by to test the alpha build once available.
The right to vote is great! It is far and away better than not having a right to vote for those who govern us. However, that is completely different from believing that having a vote means it is no longer theft when the government forces you to hand over that which represents YOUR spent time and productive energy, particularly in order to fund garbage you fundamentally disagree with.
99% of so called "public goods and services" should not be subsidized by the government at all. Please reference the give-a-shit matrix for why:

Pretty words for "take your stuff at the point of a gun, because we know better how to use it, even though you're the one who worked for it, but you can feel better about it because you at least got to vote."

Would it help to have a non-dev, but tech literate guy like me use/test it with you? If it is anything to do with Project Alexandria, I am 100% down.

On the surface, this seems like the most depressing thing to tell someone, but once put in the context of the gospel of grace for sinners through the atonement of Christ, it is the most glorious thing you can be told. If Christ can overcome the most difficult thing you will ever have to deal with, which is your own sin, then there is nothing else he can't free you from along with it.
It is also revolutionary for inter-personal relationships. It is easy to have grace for those around you when you realize that it took much more grace to wash your own sins away.
So, I will always remember those words, and remind myself, "I am my own biggest problem." Or to put it in the words of the Apostle Paul: "The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost." 1 Timothy 1:15
"You are your own biggest problem." - Pastor Jeff Pierce
Let's put it this way. If you are part of a small democracy in which you have an equal vote with 10 other people, and 9 of them vote against you to take your stuff, that doesn't make it any less theft because the process was democratic.
This principle doesn't change because we're dealing with larger numbers. It's still the majority voting to take the property away from the minority.

This is definitely significant.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for hosting my own outbox relay on my Umbrella, though?
The one on the app store is definitely designed to just be a backup of your notes, but is there a way to do something similar to this, or install a different relay implementation that would do the trick?

Working on talking my DnD group into posting our session recaps as long form posts on Nostr.
