“The Guy who has read more about Bitcoin than anyone else you know.” Adjectives: Smart/Sexy Host of Bitcoin Audible 🎧

I try to make a habit of saying or posting something every couple of months that I think most of my followers/group will specifically *not* like.

Although I did it often enough that I think I’ve largely eliminated that side of the crew, lol. Now when I say things I think people will get annoyed with most just like the post. 🤣

I’m less filtered than I used to be and can’t decide if that’s good or bad 🤔

Replace it with “white” and you have your answer.

In 8 more years that’s what all these 1,000 sat zaps will feel like.

“Hey babe! I just found an old WoS account with like 10 zaps from 2023! We’re going to Hawaii!”

“It is more important that innocence be protected than it is that guilt be punished, for guilt and crimes are so frequent in this world that they cannot all be punished.

But if innocence itself is brought to the bar and condemned, perhaps to die, then the citizen will say, 'whether I do good or whether I do evil is immaterial, for innocence itself is no protection,' and if such an idea as that were to take hold in the mind of the citizen that would be the end of security whatsoever.”

― John Adams

Anyone else using Nostrgram & seeing it on the struggle bus today?

Paging #[0] , are you seeing issues or just something going on at my side?

You know, the Flash is a terribly written character & is in some really garbage DC movies... but the lightning and speed effects are done incredibly well.

Hats off to the artists who worked on that piece of shit film 🤣

He looks like Santa Claus

At some point you just need to put in a limit for the color change, maybe max it with a relative measure so its always 30% darker/lighter than whatever the text darkness is (or find some specific minimal difference so the text is always readable)

After like 10 threads deep its hard to come up with any way that it isn't at least a little confusing, lol. At that point maybe we just give up 🤣

Ah, exactly the sort of thing I had in mind! The color & layer matching really does do the trick

Soft fork hell.

It’s an interesting idea that hasn’t left my mind, but I’ve never come down fully in support of it for a handful of reasons. I leave myself open to it, but I’m not so sure it will matter as much as more time passes.

If i had to just spit out a rough idea of possible alternatives:

• Only "unroll" comments if you had clicked on one deep in the thread, but leave all the threads "closed" at first. ie. only the immediate responses to the OP are visible, not sub responses

• Have a thin "gap block" that says "Unroll Responses" or whatever with an expansion arrow below each comment with an ongoing thread.

• Make the indent a lot more prominent (even at the expense of space for displaying the response

• Maximize the indent at maybe 3-4 deep, and then use dots or slashes before the first word as indication of how much further the response is in the thread? 🤔 (basic idea is after a certain depth, use something else to show derivation, rather than the indent)

• Another simple visual indicator could maybe be the darkness or brightness of the comment background. This could let you leave a thinner indentation, but use the background to visually indicate depth (ie. top comment in "dark mode" is 70% toward black, new response is 75% to black, next depth is 77.5%, next is 78.73% - ah la darkness halvening 😆)

I'd be inclined to think it'll be there in less than 2 years. I think we will see an explosion in LN use in the next 12-24 months

#[0]just a comment: reading through threads and comments is *really* difficult to parse out who is responding to whom.

The little lines on the left and layout of separate threads is both hard to see and not very well distinguished. I'm going to poke around for an example that makes it clearer, but I just wanted to put it on your radar. Its one of the few minor frustrations that has persisted from the beginning of my using Nostrgram.

(curious if anyone else feels this way or if its just me?)

The best way to prove the forward security & sustainability of the fee model of Bitcoin is to have 1,000,000+ active lightning channels.

Ah shit there was a meme competition!? Hate I kissed that one

Only briefly! But yes it seems like a really cool wallet, I've just only barely scratched the surface of it.

This is still what crypto people think 🤣🤣

Facebook has become useful for a single purpose, localized eBay. I sell my old stuff on there and it gets picked up really fast. Other than that, I stay way away from that place

Thinking that Damus (and all Nostr apps) should support markdown.

I’ve legit become a Markdown Maxi since I started building a note taking system about a year ago with Obsidian (which has an API) and Hookmarks (universal links to files on your computer).

It’s totally changed how I navigate my digital life and I will be posting a lot of markdown formatted notes either way. So just letting you know 🤣🤣

Pinging #[0]

Since Wallet of Satoshi has gone down a few times & I saw people asking, I felt it would be good to have a dedicated thread on options for a **receiving** [[LNURL]] address. Save this thread and add others in the comments if you have one not listed.

So in the past 2 weeks I’ve cycled through connecting each of these to #Nostr:

- [Alby](https://getalby.com/)

- Great LN wallet and extension, has custodial option plus can connect numerous other noncustodial to it. Can use to login to LNAUTH websites as well as with your Nostr keys to protect from copy/pasting (honestly it's a need-to-have for Nostr until everyone else integrates the Nostr sign in). Easy & cheap to withdraw

- [Wallet of Satoshi](https://www.walletofsatoshi.com/)

- Custodial, very fast adoption of Nostr and zaps. Just always seems to work and has been reliable for me for years... (until you Zap⚡️Junkies broke them). Easy to withdraw but has much higher fees on bigger payments - I think there's a set percentage.

- [Zebedee](https://zbd.gg/)

- Works great! BUT it freaking emailed me for every zap. It says I can easily change the settings but i searched through the whole menu and got 2 more emails *while* I was looking for how to turn it off and just immediately disconnected it 🤣 — if you can figure that out it seems great otherwise (but custodial). Easy & cheap to withdraw

- [BtcPayServer](https://btcpayserver.org/)

- Setup is a lot more involved & requires you to connect your own web domain, but it's incredibly valuable to have. I use BtcPay for all sorts of crap and it's insanely valuable despite a less intuitive interface when you first get into it. Non-custodial, you hold the keys.

- [Fountain App](https://fountain.fm/)

- Podcasting app, custodial Lightning. Easy and instant setup basically, LNURL is right in your profile. Only headache with them is fixed sized withdraws. Most you can do in any invoice is 200k at a time. Great way to get a fast LNURL though.

- [LN.tips](https://t.me/LightningTipBot)

- My current zap LNURL source. Run by @callebtc, it connects to the (custodial) LightningTipBot on Telegram, so it gives you all your zaps in a scrolling Telegram chat feed. Honestly I just like the interface for viewing zaps more than anything. Easy to withdraw to any non-custodial.

---------------

Wallets I've used that support *sending* to LNURL but don't seem to have support for an address of your own:

- [Phoenix Wallet](https://phoenix.acinq.co/)

- [Breez](https://breez.technology/mobile/)

- going to have a big overhaul soon, I'd keep an eye out

- [Blixt Wallet](https://blixtwallet.github.io/features)

------------

Other wallets that have LNURL support of various kinds (send/receive/both) that I have on my list to test eventually:

- [LNpay](lnpay.co)

- Looks like yoy can send and receive via LNURL – I use this for a lot of other stuff, it's a custodial and/or non-custodial wallet manager with API (kind of like an LNbits as a service to connect to your other apps). Great for webhooks, connecting to code on a website, etc. Looks like you can use own domain for LNURL (though I haven't done it yet).

- [Bottlepay](https://bottlepay.com/)

- [Lifpay](https://www.lifpay.me/en/)

- (don't know much but looks interesting)

- [Balance of Satoshis](https://github.com/alexbosworth/balanceofsatoshis)

- install it on your LND node instance like btcpay, voltage, umbrel, etc. Here it's really useful but haven't gotten time to fully explore.

- [Bitcoin Beach Wallet](https://www.bbw.sv/)

- custodial but will give user an LNURL

- [Simple Bitcoin Wallet](https://sbw.app/)

- [Clams](https://app.clams.tech/welcome)

- Looks like an LNlink sort of app for Core-Lightning. Both are about controlling your LN node *over* the Lightning network, so its direct comms using "empty" payments over other LN nodes.

- [Machankura](https://8333.mobi/)

- Blowing up in Africa from what i read, send directly to phone number or LNURL. Custodial.

.....

I'm sure there are others but these are teh ones I have saved in an ongoing note and what I've had more hands on experience with. Hope this is helpful. 🙏

Just testing something...

- [Alby](https://getalby.com/)

Which they can currently do for free

I've got a new one coming soon. First one I've tackled with Davinci Fusion.

Then I've got a ton of short ones lined up before the next bigger meme to tackle. I'm trying to migrate me memecrafting to mostly Nostr and see the best way to share it. Is it Youtube? Nostr.build? Some other embed option? What feels the best in the feed? What gives the largest image? Etc

How (in Damus) can I see which relay is “seeding” a message or user to me? I’d prefer not disconnecting ALL of my unpaid relays if there are only a couple that are forwarding the bulk of the spam in global. But I can’t find a way to tell which relays are responsible for feeding me the posts when I get spam.

If there is a way let me know 🙏🏻💜

A person’s savings is their ability to choose. It’s their security in making an ethical or moral choice, in opposition to an employer or corporation.

It is no coincidence that the moral fabric of society becomes a rotten corpse at the same time as it is overwhelmed with debt.

The plans that were never the plan but you fall into anyway are almost always the best plans. 😆

It’s probably the difference between number of users and people paying for premium and/or paying sats for clips or ads.

Finding a balance there I’m sure is crazy hard, and paying people to listen is probably an ever falling margin.

Lightning tips next to the boost button.

Get an LNURL (try Wallet of Satoshi, Zebedee, Fountain, BTCPAY, etc to get one) and punch it into the “Lightning address” slot in your profile.

Then people can send you sats for your notes… they can ⚡️zap⚡️ you 😁

To actually forward data don’t they all still need to port forward and have a front facing DNS presence? If so then that’s the age old challenge we’ve had since the birth of the internet, how do we make that accessible to everyone as easily as possible without a trusted third party.

If not then I’m curious how the relays accomplish this? I’m honestly unsure on all the details regarding how it works.
