Alex Jones is still making videos and money. The Pirate Bay is still up, and everything Julian Assange leaked is still freely available. Speech will always have consequences. If by “unstoppable speech” you mean “speech with no consequences” then Nostr is not what you need. If Alex or Julian were on Nostr they wouldn’t have fared any better.

It's a pretty common term in the dweb circles I hang out in.

Speech has been unstoppable on the internet for quite some time. Examples: Alex Jones, Julian Assange, Pirate Bay, Tor onion services. Nostr is nowhere near the best tool for unstoppable speech. Nostr isn't even a very good tool for this, because relay owners can ban you, shadowban you, or censor posts without it being obvious.

And I did not say the freedom was not refreshing.

If Nostr is just a place to publish things that nobody can take down then it's not special or interesting. The freedom on Nostr isn't refreshing because their are no rules. It's because there can be many sets of rules and you can choose the ones you play in. The power of Nostr isn't in the Twitter-style microblogging we are doing right now, it's in all the digital places we can build when exchanging data with our friends is quick and easy.

Having user metadata automatically load in Gossip makes it way more usable for me! My new most-hoped for features are block and report. Seeing notes from people I've already blocked in Iris and Damus sucks.

Yeah well the reason I didn’t climb this week is because I hurt my back trying to fix my toilet so… I feel that 👴🏻

I got out for a walk today. Missed the climbing gym this week but hoping to get back on Tuesday. Did you get injured indoor or outdoor climbing?

It sounds reasonable. When you say “events about you” what do you mean? Users can’t really keep track of which relays their events are on, and it’s caused some unexpected behavior for me. But I also think users may try posting specific events to specific relays (almost like posting to a group) in the future so it’s important not to spread all events everywhere imo.

That worked! It was actually a bug with a different app that hadn’t saved my contact list.

In a strange turn of events, Apple has added the Hashcash proof-of-work algorithm to their App Store Connect API without telling anyone, and it's broken all iOS developer's CI. https://github.com/fastlane/fastlane/issues/21071#issuecomment-1442411085

So fast, thank you!

😯 you are getting DMs in Gossip? I must need to pull the latest.
