Did you know that nine countries have withdrawn their ambassadors from Israel, and one has cut diplomatic ties entirely in protest of Israel’s relentless war on Gaza? Last week, the Bolivian government said that it was severing diplomatic ties with Israel completely, making it the first country to do so since the start of the war in Gaza.

On Monday, South Africa announced that it was recalling its ambassador to Israel due to the failure of Israel to “respect international law and the United Nations.” Last week, Jordan recalled its ambassador describing the decision as an “expression of Jordan’s position of rejection and condemnation of the raging Israeli war on Gaza.” Turkey, Chile, Colombia, Chad, Honduras, and Bahrain have also followed suit, citing Israel’s continued attacks on civilians.

Massive protests erupt against US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to key ally Jordan for humanitarian negotiations during Israel’s genocide in Gaza. “The entire Jordanian people are united behind the resistance and Gaza,” - say protesters, starkly contrasting the political line of Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

On his ongoing diplomatic tour, Blinken will meet the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, all US allies, as well as a senior aide to PA’s Mahmoud Abbas. Previously, Blinken left Israel empty-handed after talks on humanitarian measures. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ruled out any temporary ceasefire in Gaza, pushing back against US pressure.

The question of terror is as old as the liberation struggle itself. Revolutionaries are constantly confronted with the mainstream narrative that labels anti-colonial movements as “terrorists,” de-legitimizing their struggle. Watch as Pan-African Black Revolutionary Malcolm X expresses his support for the Mau Mau resistance movement in Kenya when a journalist tried to get him to condemn the movement, calling it a “terrorist organization” that “initiates acts of terrorism.”

Similarly, mainstream media today is quick to label the Palestinian resistance as consisting of “terrorists” that initiated an act of terror on October 7, totally ignoring the 75 years of brutal occupation at the hands of the Israeli state and Jewish settlers that forced the Palestinians to react and resist.

Garment workers in Bangladesh have been on strike since Monday (October 30th) and are on the streets again today, despite heavy repression, to demand a monthly minimum wage of Tk 23,000 (209 USD). Their current salary is Tk 8,300 (75 USD).

One worker, Rasel Howlader, was shot and killed by police on Monday. Yesterday, 25 protesters were injured in Dhaka as police cleared barricades erected by protesters along crucial highways.

The main protests have been in the capital city, Dhaka, and the industrial center of Gazipur, where workers have been blocking highways, torching factories that do not accept the livable wage demands, and organizing daily street protests. As of Friday, November 3rd, 300 factories have been closed by workers.

The country’s garment industry capitalists generate around 55 Billion USD annually in exports, mainly to the US and Europe, providing cheap clothes for the Western market. Meanwhile, 4 million garment workers, the majority of whom are women, face poverty wages and unsafe working conditions.

This strike over wages has been triggered by rising inflation that has rendered essential goods unaffordable for many. The monthly inflation rate stands at almost 10% as the currency devaluation sets in, resulting from IMF loan conditions earlier this year that forced Bangladesh to scrap its fixed exchange rate system.

Thousands of Greek anti-fascists confronted an international call-out fascist event in Athens, organized by the now-banned Golden Dawn party and the far-right group Casa Pound. Footage shows violent clashes in which iron bars, improvised shields, and motorbike helmets were used.

The authorities deployed 3,000 additional police, including riot police and national police, in areas close to the fascist gathering. Police attempted to separate the protesters with tear gas grenades, causing one rally participant to suffer serious head injuries. Refugees and migrants in the area were attacked by the fascists, who also attempted to set fire to a metro carriage with petrol.

The far-right rally took place on Wednesday to mark the tenth anniversary of the deaths of two members of Golden Dawn, Manolis Kapelonis and George Fundoulis, in front of the party's office in Neo Iraklio in northern Athens. Greek far-right groups had called on fascists from all over Europe via Telegram to take part in the rally, which was banned by the police.

A record 6.9 million people have been displaced in Africa's longest-running conflict and one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. What’s going on in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)? Read on to find out.

At least 80% of the displaced population are from the eastern provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, and Tanganyika, areas that have been increasingly dominated by armed groups looking to control resources in those regions, particularly gold.

An estimated $300 million to $600 million in gold is smuggled out of the DRC each year. While some Belgian companies are involved in the DRC’s gold industry, much of the smuggled gold ends up in the UAE, which imported $37 billion in gold in 2020, making it one of the biggest players in the market.

Banyamulenge woman Esther Nanduhura told local reporters the armed groups “sell gold to white people to buy weapons — that’s why they sell the gold. I want to tell these white people to stop buying from them.”

One such armed group are the mainly ethnic Tutsi M23 rebels whose conflict with the DRC has intensified in North Kivu since early October, particularly in the area north of the provincial capital Goma.

In North Kivu alone 1 million people have been displaced due to the ongoing conflict with the M23 as violent fighting escalates. Since October 1 almost 200,000 people have fled their homes in North Kivu’s Rutshuru and Masisi territory north of Goma.

The IOM is involved in managing 78 displacement sites which are hosting 200,000 people and are also providing mental health services for people who are facing psychological distress. However, only $37 million of the $100 million funding needed has arrived to date.

The large-scale displacement has also led to an increase in sexual violence against women, particularly in the East. For example in the Bulengo displacement camp and other nearby sites an average of 70 sexual assault victims a day visit clinics run by Doctors Without Borders.

On this day in 1917, Britain's Foreign Secretary, Arthur Balfour, gave formal backing for the creation of a Zionist state on Palestinian land. This is the Israeli state's origin story, a letter that is three sentences long and written in London.

For Britain, the zionist colonialism represented a way to police the Middle East more efficiently and enforce Europe's colonial interests. While for anti-Semites like Balfour, creating a "Jewish" state, was an efficient way to expel Jews from Europe.

In 1905 Balfour himself introduced the anti-Semitic 'Aliens Act' to crackdown on Jewish immigration into Britain. Huge numbers of Jews were seeking refuge from the pogroms in Tsarist Russia, and Balfour closed the door.

Balfour's declaration also came at a time of fierce debate within the Jewish movement. On one side were zionists who believed it was futile to fight anti-semitism in Europe and so the solution was to create a Jewish state with backing of imperialism.

On the other side, were left-wing Jews, such as the Socialist Bund, who believed that Jews should stay in their respective countries and fight to assert their political rights. They opposed the colonization of Palestine and supported resistance against it.

The Balfour Declaration called on the Zionist colonisers to respect others, saying, "nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine".

In reality, Britain gave the colonists free-reign to expel Palestinians. Zionist leader Chaim Weizman said, "The declaration implies that we have been given the opportunity to become masters”.

When there was an anti-colonial revolt in the 1930s, the Zionist Haganah paramilitaries were incorporated into the British Army to help crush the revolt, the Haganah took advantage to expel Palestinians off their land, with the violent tactics that would later be used in the Nakba.

Workers unions and social movements in Panama have mobilized in huge numbers against a copper mining contract. The protests have been ongoing for the 8th consecutive day, despite concessions from government. Here is why.

The government signed a public contract for open-air copper mining with the Canadian company First Quantum Minerals (FQM). The environmental damage caused by mining in Panama is the primary cause of the mass unrest.

Last Friday, the President of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, announced the suspension of all new mining contracts and on Sunday presented a referendum on whether to continue with the contract with First Quantum Minerals.

In response to this news, and to the continued protests, the shared price of FQM was down 28% at the close of trading on Monday.

Saúl Méndez, leader of the construction workers union, one of the largest groups organizing the protests, stated that the protests will continue regardless of these concessions.

More protests are planned for the coming days. The teachers union has also announced that they will begin an indefinite strike until the contract is cancelled.

FQM has been mining and exporting copper in Panama ever since 2019, but protesters are tired of the huge environmental damage it has caused to rivers, drinking water, and wildlife, as well as the low revenues it brings for the country.
