Nostr is my only social media. I was never on Facebook, Insta etc. something about them made me uneasy. I signed up for this early on. I like the anonymity & the ability to block an idiot.

I got lost and I don’t know my way back to MySpace.

Difficult to censor, decentralized, all that. But more importantly: The people are friendly. They aren't constantly bitching about stupid stuff. They actually do something against the shitty circumstances we're caught in. No one to rat you out for having opinions.

Coming from the Fediverse, this is what makes the difference.

Decentralization of communication

I got fed up with how corporations monetized legacy media. I miss the early days of platforms when organic discovery was huge. I’m also interested in how Nostr can accelerate the creator economy.

Freedom.

I switched to NOSTR because my feed on X became full of scammers, shitcoiners, OF ads, and fight vids. All I want to do is chat about the glory of bitcoin, so this seems like a better venue.

I do everything I can to live freely, nostr is the way.

By now, I’ve reached the point on Facebook where I don’t dare to share anything anymore. I never posted much before either, but the situation really escalated during the pandemic. Back then, whenever I shared something, it was either censored by Facebook or torn apart by my friends.

Since then, the censorship has eased up. My friends, however, have changed tactics – they simply quietly unfriend me instead. It’s a crappy feeling when years-long friendships go down the drain just because I share a political joke once a month. So, I’ve decided to strictly post nothing at all.

Four months ago, I started actively using Nostr. Since then, I’ve already gained more followers here than I ever had Facebook friends – after 15 years of using Facebook.

So, yeah. That’s how it is.

Because here I own my ID and I don't have to worry (so much) about being censored or shadowbanned. Also because I am not tied to one single client.

In many ways (in the ones that matter the most) it simply is a much better UX than Twitter was these past few years, and it takes me back to the mid 90's when I was using IRC which for me was when "social media" actually peaked (so, it peaked before it officially existed really).
