To find nostr from Google, you first see nostr.com with a snippet of code. Then you need 3 clicks to find a client. Not the best search experience.

If you Google it, it first comes up with Nostr.com then wikipedia. gross ๐Ÿคฎ

Your site comes up a bit lower too.

Pay for Kagi!!!!

nostr.com is a terrible misuse of that domain. You should hit that front page and right away see an attractive display of the latest and greatest of Nostr apps. Then you can navigate and find other info. But the front page of nostr.com should literally be click here to get on Nostr.

it really should be a central hub for all the newbies, and people who need a reminder of what is available

And perhaps nostr:npub1lelkh3hhxw9hdwlcpk6q9t0xt9f7yze0y0nxazvzqjmre3p98x3sthkvyz docu on Nostr somewhere on the landing page? ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Would be an honor ๐Ÿ‘€

nostr:npub1wmr34t36fy03m8hvgl96zl3znndyzyaqhwmwdtshwmtkg03fetaqhjg240 talked about this in nostrasia. How do we make that experience better? nostr:npub1a8jzweysxa9qmtmht874736aalm0lwdsl306nrys9d05ktlrhw3qcr5pj4 do you still own the domain?

Need to make nostr.com similar to mastodon landing page experience.

If it were up to me, I would make nostr.com a nice landing page with a button to try right at the top. That would lead to a client right on nostr.com, for example app.nostr.com. Maybe this could be a fork of our "best" client. It would be the easiest way to onboard people coming from search. and within the app, we expose other clients.

Itโ€™s still very confusing for regular users how things work.

For example, relays and media servers get mixed up. I did not find a simple explanation or how-to guide how to add a file hosting server on a client by googling.

Most of the Nostr guides were written before the file hosting was becoming a thing.

Thereโ€™s only a few listings of servers but they look pretty technical from the UX.

Nostr.how (or something similar) would be more fitting. Nostr native? even better

Mastodon is the implementation though, not the protocol. I'm guessing that noobs don't search for activitypub. So it would be like people searching for Primal, which would probably be fine.

But I think you're right wrt the landing page. Have a button that either lets them get started instantly, or choose from a list of clients.

Nostr is what everyone talks about on Twitter on hacker news etc

what's nostr?

Of course, I agree. I just mean it's slightly harder for nostr as people will be searching for the protocol, which has a million different options for clients.

But as you say, making it very quick and easy for them to get started on nostr.com would be a great first step.

Why is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nostr not the default location for Nostr things?

It should be more accessible than nostr.com which has opaque moderation and addition policies.

I didn't use Google, but I had the same experience when I first started looking into it. In fact, most of the info I got came from people in the #Bitcoin space that I already followed on X. I then went to YouTube to watch their videos.

You're right. This will need to change if we want to reach beyond Bitcoiners.

I vaguely recall hitting a normie list with Mastodon, Bluesky, and Damus. I think they were presenting Damus as if it were a social network rather than a client for Nostr though. I think that was right around the time all the political left were talking about ditching Twitter because Elon bought it.

Agreed. Google search is a whole lot better than it was a couple months ago but it definitely still needs work. Some Playstore listed nostr apps that aren't in beta are hard to find too.

I don't think you go to atproto.com to open Bluesky...

Eeeeww! Yeah, thats reeeally, really bad! First thing you should see is a "Try" button. Shoving *code* into the face of normies is not at all a smart idea.

what happens when u search "http"?

Working on nostr.help to aid in search along with other uses ๐Ÿค™
