Trying to orange-pill my brother, who I actually like and love.
He just laughs and calls BTC ācomputer fugazzi.ā
I need to know what the key factoid was that shifted your paradigm; what finally worked for you??

I feel you. Nothing worked to get my parents on board š

A friend suggested: just buy $100 of bitcoin and you'll think about it differently.
So I bought $100 of it and then wondered "I wonder if there's a podcast on bitcoin?" and that was it.
For everyone that I've wanted to orange-pill, downloading a wallet onto their phones and then sending them some sats was more useful than all my talking.
Ethical money.
Trying to orange pill via reason and logic wonāt work unless your counterpart is truly open to the idea.
If heās not quite there yet, your best option is ridiculing the fiat system and all the pain points he likely experiences with it.
Does he use the internet? If so, then Bitcoin is the money layer the internet has been waiting for. So unless he thinks the internet is also fugazzi, he should perhaps understand that.
Mail -> email
Fiat -> bitcoin
Natural evolution.
I got my highly educated father to read the bitcoin standard and even that didnāt seem to convince him.
They have to come to it by themselves, if they ever do. Otherwise, youāll be the one they blame if the price crashes and they panic sell.
I, admittedly, got in for the greed, and freedom, but didn't completely understand it.
And still, to this day, learn more about it everyday.
Have him sit down and watch a cpl hrs of nostr:nprofile1qqsg86qcm7lve6jkkr64z4mt8lfe57jsu8vpty6r2qpk37sgtnxevjcpr4mhxue69uhkummnw3ez6ur4vgh8wetvd3hhyer9wghxuet5qyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wvfskueqpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqux2c7y
If he can't light a spark, then he's just going to get it at the price he deserves.
Iāve been trying it orange pill my dad for 5+ years no luck. He says āit feels fake. I want to know my money is in the bankā I keep telling him you do realize your bank doesnāt actually have your money.
I canāt get through to him at all. Now Iām the one that will have to pay for him in retirement because heās not going to be able to afford it.
Tell him heās a boomer and go watch Fox or CNN. He canāt have BTC because heās not smart enough.
Conviction requires a huge body of knowledge which canāt be acquired in a conversation. I imagine you and your brother have different interests, which lead you to different knowledge of the world. The conviction you feel is just the tip of the iceberg, though you donāt hold it consciously, most of your knowledge and experience will be hidden in your subconscious which forms your opinion and either makes you more or less able to digest the conclusion youāve made. Iām not sure thereās a way around self motivation to learn about it and spend 100ās of hours learning about it. You can get people to follow along, agree and even buy some bitcoin by presenting the tip of the iceberg. But conviction requires a solid foundation which cannot be attained second hand. I think the transition to a true bitcoin standard globally will take longer than we think because of this. Even though I would like to think itāll happen in a decade or two. I think this is going to be an intergenerational transition like many groundbreaking foundational things. The internet was different because it didnāt swap out one thing for another it developed alongside and complimented many real world businesses before slowly shifting over. Many physical stores had web stores too, this legitimised the experience for many older users who could now buy things from companies they trusted, the transition was smooth. We will see treasury companies and banks legitimising bitcoin and this will act in a similar way, but even that is a large paradigm shift compared.
Agreed.
Andreas Antonopolous speaking to a room of one. Had that on loop. First thought - he's an idiot. Thoughts after that - why? Result - ploughed into everything I could find on this idiot.
At the time I was self learning how to trade currency . But before I could do that I needed to understand how money worked . Mike Maloney had 10 x 1 hour podcast on the History of Money. Those podcasts took me three months .
So, when Andreas came along - speaking internet of money, keys, cryptography, decentralized, wallets- alien language . It was the description of paying bitcoin from the Amazon to the Sahara without a bank - I was hooked.
Your note resonates - stacking a knowledge bank, that ticks the boxes, only to create more questions - and the journey goes down many rabbit holes, from the reaction of bank regulators to Trudeau's disastrous response to Canada's Freedom Convoy - all stacked away, before data gets whitewashed.
The journey still continues - ramped up since Covid lockdown. Bitcoin is still the light at the end of the tunnel.
And now we have Nostr. I'm truly blessed.
Great to read some of your story, thanks for sharing. Sounds like youāve been in the game longer than me but thereās a lot that resonates šš½
Iām making nostr my first port of call as far as social media goes, in order to make quality connections with like minded people, it really does feel like walking alone in the dessert out there not knowing any bitcoiners in real life. One thing that has really struck me about nostr is the positivity and sincerity of so many people. Iām not a religious man but having a vision for a better world and surrounding yourself with others that share that vision in a way thatās personal to them is really inspiring and a blessing.
I joined Nostr a month tomorrow.
An amazing school. So many notes from BTC mining, watching the development of Bitchat and Whitenoise, the Bitcoin chit chat, the vulnerable moments shared on Nostr.
The best place to learn stuff.
The areas I need to focus on - upskill my tech abilities and cyber security. On a scale of 1 - 10 (useless to useful). I'm a 1. I understood from Richard Greene (Explore section ) - to be competent - have knowledge, skill and attitude. Lack of skill makes me ineffective.
So, Nostr has challenged me to learn hardware/software architecture, servers, browsers, networks, databases and the weakness and strength of the internet.
I've set myself a 12 month timeline and each month record what I learn. l've found an IBM lecturer on YT for the above challenge . The podcasts are 12 months old. Working my way through them now.
So, yes I love the NOSTR protocol too and I'm delighted that you are finding your purpose on here.
Iām amazed at how much forward momentum is on here, that sounds like a great plan šŖš½ itās a topic iād be interested to know more about, but I know itāll never be something I spend much time studying as Iām just starting my own project. Make sure to post your progress on here, iād love to see what you learn. Itāll never be my specialty, but then if we all knew everything we wouldnāt get the chance to work with other passionate individuals such as yourself. Keep in touch, i may have need of someone with the skills/knowledge youāre looking to acquire in the coming year. šš½
Challenge accepted.
Same applies to you .
Last Friday of the month.
We can exchange updates.
Awesome outcome.
Now about the thing Iām working on, iām not sure I can tell you much about as itās a business venture that Iām trying to keep under wraps for now. As much as Iād love to tell people, Iām trying to keep it a secret until I have the product in hand to announce. I think people on here are gonna love it, which is the reason Iām here. iāve never been an active person on social media, or one to make connections with random people and I always hated the shallowness of ānetworkingā. But on nostr, the glove fits perfectly as it were. I can make friends, meet genuinely interesting people with interesting skills/knowledge/crafts, and thatās getting me thinking about what sort of people I might need to hire moving forward to help me bring my product to life and make it something really great, i want it to be the best option on the market. I canāt wait to share it, Iām looking to unveil the product in about 6 months time, but i only had the idea the other day so thereās a long way to go.
But Iāll have a think and reassess what i think about that in a month šŖš½ nothing personal, just wanted to keep it on the down-low for now. But lets get in contact in a month and go from there, iād still like to have a chat regardless of whether I can tell you specifics about the project šš½
When I understood the āwhyā, as in why the current financial system is failing us and why Bitcoin fixes it.
When I figured out what inflation was
Math
I was already chewing orange pills, but this lecture by Andreas really hit home at the time:
Donāt try and convince him.
Save a small amount regularly for him and when heās ready and āgets itā, or when fiat goes totally mental, youāll have a starter amount ready to send.
does he understand money and why bitcoin is the soundest form of it in human history?
Has he read: "The Creature From Jekyll Island".
It's a bit dry, but I found it very helpful to understand how the money system is rigged against us.
No one can understand the concept of limited supply until they understand the concept of inflation.
In its turn, understanding inflation requires understanding the historical fact that the haves have always conspired against the halve-nots. So, one cannot understand bitcoin without accepting the value of critical thinking. Itās a prerequisite.
Borrow some money from him and use it to buy bitcoin. Hold onto the bitcoin and stretch the loan out as long as you can, but don't tell him what you did. Then one day surprise him in 4 years. Tell him to keep hodling it.
Does he have children and/or Biblical values?
I think that was what finally worked for me, was realizing it's lasting, its a finite supply, and it's going up long term, so will at least make a good inheritance for my children. (Proverbs 13:22)
Even if you don't understand it, do it for your children, long term view, which also separates it from all the alt coins.
Pointing out that a small amount now could make a huge difference in their lives. That might get him in the door and like others have pointed out, once you have some, you are more inclined/motivated to learn about it.
I always told my brother that the government is stealing his savings with the printer. Also pointed out that banks don't keep reserves and loan out his money to give themselves interest..... At risk, and he gets none of that. I compared that to Bitcoin, and he would admit that it sounds better.
I never quite orange pilled him, but he did recognized the value of DCAing a dollar a day as a hedge and has been doing that. He might listen more once he actually has money to lose, he is still in school. Its helps that he leans libertarian/right, gave me a rhetorical beachhead. If you don't have that ideological overlap with your brother then it would be even harder.
Send him this..
This will do it
Take him to Steak ān Shake
It was 2020 for me.
If 2020 didnāt radicalize you then idk what else to say lol š¤·āāļø š¤£
Older or younger brother matters.
My younger brother orange pilled me thru Dollar Cost Averaging.
Back in 2020 this was with Swan. For me the factoid was the idea that sats per dollar will decrease forever.
If you are the older brother the I would send him memes to constantly show what he is missing out on interlaced with key book recommendations or YouTube videos.
I did this with my two step brothers who are same age and younger. Jeff Booth Price of Tomorrow was the unlock for them. We now have a text thread regularly talking about bitcoin and are closer now than ever before.
Brothers need persistence and the reinforcement that it comes from a place of wanting shared success.
The 2008 financial meltdown woke me up and shortly there after reading the "Creature from Jekyll Island" I realized the dollar fiat system is the biggest ponzi scheme in existence.
It's hard for someone to realize that we have all been played for fools since 1913.
My best advice is to say if you can't take the time to educate yourself about the facts then your are living in the matrix.
With all the false prophets out there, it's not easy filtering out the bullshit from facts.
Thank you for all your educational posts on how to keep/stay healthy.
Oh⦠simple one for me⦠i said.. you do know they (THE FED) are gonna print money and debase you and your money you have will buy you less⦠and now the dude is a toxic HODL maxi level pleb.. nostr:npub16tmp2smv4896eqm2mpcs7ws6v93rn6nwraasa9q6ru9fwa4a4wyq6l7mv0
That be me!
I never got it until I had skin in the game. Got off zero and felt stronger about it with every year that passed.
The limited supply vs fiats never ending money printer
I thought bitcoin was a cool idea since I first heard about it in 2013. I didnāt get fully orange pilled until I stumbled upon Andreas Antonopolous talks on YouTube in 2017 though.
I always thought that it was a great idea, I just needed some years to understand the deflationary part
I have the feeling that in the last 16 years we have orange pilled the 5% that have an easy time understanding Bitcoin.
Orange pilling the rest will take a huge effort...
Actually not owning anything. Credit cards. A 800 credit score just means you a better slave than me. The printing of money. Inflation.
don't sell bitcoin. sell the problem - money printing, inflation, money that can be censored, forever wars.
once they understand the problem, they will be open to a solution.
Actually understanding how it worked changed my perspective. The 3Blue1Brown video on Bitcoin specifically.
I heard it from someone I respected deeply who I wasn't related to.
I've found that the more I push with family the more they recoil.
Computer fugazzi is a pretty awesome phrase.
Your brother actually sounds cool!
I convinced my cousin when she witnessed bitcoin on chain is faster and cheaper than wiring money from her bank
Asking questions on Nostr and then a couple of anons calling me a fucking moron and telling me to figure it out myself buddy. Totally sold
For me, it was too many incidents with retail banks, and fees associated with doing business with them. Them being bought out by foreign banks and be shut down. As well as ,trying to do business with a myriad of governmental offices, and the unnecessary hoops & hurdles they put businesses through (unless you have a 'connections').
Jump into his world. Create an analogy. If heās into cars tell him how there are 21 million cars and they can never be copied. Just make it make sense.
Ask him can you have 10 minutes and youāll never talk to him about it unless he ask.

Jack Spirko interviewed John Bush and later John put on several webinars that made it a lot easier to understand and how to start. Jack was also great in explaining how to get started.
Hidden Secrets of Money series by Mike Maloney.
Explain what happened in 1971 and how modern currency is actually just negative value debt tokens.
Everyone I tell about Bitcoin says the same thing "hurrrr deerrr it would have been good to get in on it 15 years ago duuurrrrr"
I try to explain, shits still early.
15 years is not a long time.
"But it won't make me rich"
And then I'm stuck explaining why they should not invest in XRP or whatever shitcoin.
It's so frustrating.
I know people that literally wasted their life savings on shitcoins when I was telling them the entire time not to waste their money on shitcoins.
I know so many morons that fall for every too good to be true scam.
Bitcoin isn't too good to be true.
Nobody has to tell bitcoiners that the banks will adopt it or whatever, we just know that Bitcoin is better money.
But greed really makes people do stupid shit against their own self interests.
Bitcoin is a hedge against inflation I try to explain to them, the dollars lose value every year.
"Open your banking app, look at the numbers, think about what that represents."
Is that real? Or Fugazzi?
If he thinks it represents something, you can't save him.
If he is doubting and thinks it is fugazzi, talk about his options to save himself.
And then you slowly peel away the layers to get to Bitcoin.

This is up there ...
Yup! i just shared this video with my brother a month ago to orange pill him.
being utterly screwed by the traditional legacy system, thrown under the bus with sanctions, did the trick for me.
I discovered Kratter's yt channel
What's his Meyers-Briggs personality type? Only when you grok his personality type can you then discover what he most deeply values, and then use language that's resonant with his values to pitch Bitcoin as what meets those needs.
Ask him how his stocks are doing
