What should be the default setting for dissapearing DMs on Amethyst?

- 90 days?

- 1 year?

- Never?

People can change it of course, but 95% of our users never do. So, the default setting matters

Never

90 days would be fine with me

My vote goes for 90 days

21 days

Either 30 or 1.

1 day? Thats quick.

What's the point of messages disappearing if you're going to keep them around.

Yes. It has to be like those of Signal. It has to be super customizable too.

yeap ⬆️

the distinctive feature of disappearing messages is that they disappear. 1 day as default seems reasonable with options to make it longer. for Snapchat it was as soon as it was read by the other party. it always annoyed me, but it had its merits.

DMs shouldn't be disappearing by default though.

Custom settings choice would be lit.

Versatility it key 🔑

Oo I like this 💭😌

90

My preference is never, but I'm happy to change it

Default should be never

never, but I want the option to delete.

I think the default should be maybe 1 year, because that's folks who haven't thought about it, so you don't want it to be so short they'll lose things.

I agree with this 🤙

90 day default would be plenty.

20000 blocks

Default should be never.

90 days.

90 days

If you don't want to have mad users on your back because they lost their "super important post" from 5 years ago, better default to never.

If you want to make Internet a better place, 90 days or 1 year are both fine and will prevent storing infinitely all the 99.99% of meaning less shit that we are all posting every days.

Relays and npubs can delete anytime they want. Seperate issue.

1 week.

90 is good enough.

90 days

Until read unless stated a custom lenght

Onde configura isso?

Never !

never.

90 days

7 days. I never read any messages past a week.

Assuming that disappearing DMs are off by default and the user enables it to then see the option to change the time for them from the default, then a safe 30 days sounds reasonable.

1Y

Default to never, then the lower timeframe chosen by one the two parties will be mandatory.

So if A sets 90 days and B sets 1 day. Then 1 day is going to be the message disappearing time of the chat.

Also a user can decide to have all of their chats default to 1 day or 1 week and all of their chats will default to that.

If A and B initiate a new chat and A set 90 days as their default and B set 1 day. The chat will have a 1 day default timer.

In this way if 2 users do not care about messages disappearing they will have persidtency, if any of them cares they will have a right to privacy and the greatest privacy expectation will be always respected.

It will be near impossible to sync between two clients. You can only control your own messages.

I set it Never by default in 0xchat :)

Never. It should be an intentional opt-in.
