Disagree. There is no kind of bad mechanism pushing sensationalism here, no engagement farming, no algorithm used, except for honest and well written words. Sensationalist hot takes with value will always get value back. Zaps, boosts, comments... that's how it SHOULD work

Stupid things will always get more money. What Nostr fixes is not bell curves and human nature. Nostr makes sure smart things can also get money, anyone can follow smart money they choose, and smart things can't be censored.
So no , i'm not concerned. I hope more outrage attracts people to Nostr.

Human attention is bounded and can be saturated though. Nostr seems to be distributing the responsibility for the mechanism to filter out the garbage. Hard to tell if that’s good or bad yet…

Hot takes and drama will always attract eyeballs. That's how tabloids and clickbait sites have worked and will continue to work. What nostr promotes is an open protocol, not a cure for human nature.
If you don't want to see hot takes and drama, you can probably design either a relay or a client that can filter for notes with an "unusually high engagement" numbers.
The same goes with spam and scam bots. It's not the responsibility of the protocol to filter them. Doing that will open the floodgates to what made corporate social media the way it is.
Filtering should be done on an individual level (i.e: client and relay implementations.)
That difference alone makes nostr wildly different than corporate social media.
Yeah , and it’s no big deal when you can see where peoples ideas come from because of thier notes. Not gonna start a fire in my bucket ,,, last rule in reasonably productive engagement is no name calling . If you break that first , it’s like a poker call.

I’ve followed Jack for a long time now and he always gets painted in a terrible light by those that oppose our views, but yet he always seems to support the most important things quietly and they always turn out to be right choice.

Same here. Hopeful that a convergence of those projects will happen soon where free speech, decentralized identities and on ramp/off ramp of BTC can all co-exist.
That thought travels through my head every day. The last piece of freedom is the freedom to peacefully transact. Have a free and open market where the likes of the people decide the fate or success of any given thing.

An international KYCed or non-KYCed platform, open to all nationalities, where you can use your day-to-day credit/debit cards or wire transfers to buy BTC through Lightning and sell back to it. It can also host a marketplace (think ebay) where people can sell their stuff for BTC and start accumulating it.
Sounds too extreme to be feasible but this is the only way for a wider adoption and ultimately a true open & decentralized world.
What is maximum fee or spread above Spot price donyou consider to be reasonable, considering that cards are 2% more expensive
If fees/spread are similar to those of P2P platforms (3-4%?) but come with direct single option to just buy BTC & send to wallet, without dealing with 3rd parties, I think it will be a huge deal.
Many people would stomach the high fees if it means they can buy easily at anytime/anywhere.
I envision it as a last resort portal to escape fiat for those who are unable to use centralized exchanges.

I tried it but got stuck with KYCs. An official ID was not enough apparently. Those frictions, while understandable, are what hinder progress I think. But overall I liked the interface and ease of creating a purchase. Better than Moonpay for example.
