Are you worried about the lack of economic incentives around building on Nostr?
Not really. A personal inbox/outbox relay is cheap or near nothing to run. Now, large public relays are a different story. I don't make a sat from nostrelites.org but a lot of people use it. Perhaps these relays die off in the future and smaller, cheaper relays are the path forward.
The Damus team can barely keep their doors open and they’re one of the most successful projects on Nostr.
Chris Dixon is convinced protocols alone don’t have a path forward. Blockchains & tokens can transform protocols from altruistic utilities into thriving ecosystems.
Why would a bright young engineer build on Nostr if there is little to no economic incentives to do so?

I am not interested in these sell-outs, I prefer voluntary work by idealists.
Sell outs are not the best option and more like a scams. I like idea of volunteer support like primal “become a legend” doing it.. maybe nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s can copy it on Damus and other clients can adopt similar approaches
If I'm not mistaken Damus already have special badges for supporters.
But it's hard to imagine that yielding enough money to pay for a "bright young engineer" that could be scamming people for millions on Solana.
If we could all just gather in Discord to reboot the network, Nostr might just succeed.

Many different funding options will be tried, because each client and approach will be different. Not all funding models will work for all clients.
Well, I guess if the client apps get monetized through subscriptions, maybe the client apps can support the network relays, developers and other infrastructure. I kinda like the idea of apps competing for subscriptions by providing more and better services, including ad-blocking.

We're all just trying to figure out how to best use this shit. And what's best for one might not be best for the other.
