When I listened to this episode of Joe Rogan with Andreas Antonopolous in 2016 it made sense because I was new to #Bitcoin
But now in 2024 we all can see that Andreas was 100% right. This is exactly what's happening in our society right now.

Well he could not have been more right. This is one of the main problems that I think most people aren’t considering about the path we can take in the future. It’s not our current system vs a new digital bitcoin system. Maybe it was or is, but it will not be. Those that control, whether the corporate or government institutions, they know and see the value of digital currency. Make no mistake about that. We are moving towards fully digital no matter what. When you accept that as a truth, maybe then you came come to terms and pick a side. SO MANY think there is only one choice, the CBDC route. But there is so much more opportunity out there folks!
So right! I'd love for Joe to invite Andreas again, 8 years after this episode.

It’s astonishing that Joe (or anyone) could listen to this and not become a Bitcoiner. Plus, Joe had Andreas on *multiple times*. A shame that Andreas became a shitcoiner too. At least we have these memories.
He did? (become a shitcoiner) I've been wondering what happened to him. He seemed to get it on a very deep level and was even able to put into words the economic future he pictured. Streaming sats and all that. But then completely disappeared from my radar.
He wrote a book called Mastering Ethereum. Multicoinism now. Covid and vaxx hysteria broke him too. He never seemed to put the time into Austrian economics, that was his weak point. Too much focus on tech™️.
Shame. Maybe bitcoin will make him come around. Or Vitalik even. Or the books that keep popping up lately. The genesis Book and Broken Money, etc.
He never changed his position on bitcoin though, he's always been pro-bitcoin.

I'm a bit late to this realisation, but, yes, absolutely: The future is digital currencies either way, the only question is which digital currency under whose control. Well but in this interview.
E.g. banks here in Switzerland setup a great payment system you can use for free called Twint - and everybody does. But you're always paying in their book money.

Yes, Andreas Antonopoulos was correct. The future isn't #Bitcoin or the status quo; the future is either Bitcoin or CBDCs.
It's a choice between:
Free speech or censorship
Privacy or surveillance
Freedom or slavery
Hope or despair
Those are everyone's choices when they learn about Bitcoin.

I have a 3 yr old daughter. I think im going to use this clip as a litmus test for if someone wants to talk about ubi, or climate change, student debt or anything other than THIS issue as important and they dont find this important and have no idea what Andreas is talking about...i dont have time to talk to you in any serious way.

Pick your future. I'd estimate, if things keep going the way they are, that CBDC's are 2-5 years out for most western countries. They will be launched for those dependent on the gov. at first (welfare/social security aka those who can't say no) and then moved into general use soon after. Progress will be faster if UBI (universal basic income) is implemented. Either way I'd estimate that cash is removed within 10-15 years. *obviously, times are guesstimates, just thinking out loud, but probably not that far off.
To me, BRICS gives off a pretty decent bancor style vibe (Mandibles, if you haven't read it). BTW, The Creature from Jekyll Island is a great book that explains central banking and the people behind it (There is an 8 hour abridged audio book version free online for those want to get the major points).

you literally posted an advertisement for a custodial wallet. this is why you maxis are all the same. you doublespeak. we both know most people are not going to fund a channel with an onchain transaction or run a node. a good L2 scaling solution wouldn't have the ridiculous limitations that lightning has. this is not the only way.

2. Pay with paper cash (I do as much as I can since many places don't take Bitcoin).
