I explained badly. what happens is other clients send DMs with other formats, and I don't see them on amethyst and sometimes the other way around, I reply on amethyst and they don't see it.
Interesting. You should be able to see all DMs on Amethyst. Let me know if that happens again.

They can keep older version or introduce the button "purge history"

I'm for it but lots of folks still using clients that only accept NIP-04 so bad user experience. Its a good flag plant though, NIP-04 has to go.

It uses both, since Primal and Damus only has that

It may fracture the DMs even farther but after some thought, sure. Blue bubble crew will eventually revolt or install additional apps. Or they'll come find us on kind1 or something.
Unfortunately, the other clients just can't keep up.
It would be interesting to explore a transitional phase were Nip-04 becomes Nip-17 until then keep it backwards compatible until the noobs catch up to your skill level in nostr client development.

I would assume that the corporate client, and the fossy-corporate client would at the very least be able to keep up since their devs seem to also be intelligent people.
I'd totally get why smaller clients couldn't due to funding, or incompetence but I'd assume the big multi-platform client, and the biggest ios client would be able to keep up with the standards in this regard.
Idk it's a Nostr, the standards are always changing, and evolving, maybe they'll be a simpleX nostr integration one day that just invalidates both standards who knows?

Just saying, 8 out of 10 messages I receive from people who arenβt in my contacts are still NIP-04. Even some folks who run Haven and should know better mostly still default to NIP-04. Iβm still trying to educate people about NIP-17, and even after they understand it, they usually only DM me using NIP-17 it if their client happens to support it. Which also means most NIP-17 messages I send back end up in limbo.
Support for NIP-04 was removed from the official Haven build about a year ago. My personal fork still has a flag to re-enable it, which I keep telling myself Iβll disable someday.
I donβt have a strong opinion either way. I do want the ecosystem to move towards NIP-17... Disabling NIP-04 on Amethyst might be what finally pushes other client developers to support NIP-17, and that could be a good thing for Nostr. On the other handβ¦ yes, people are still using NIP-04... Like, a lot...
