if power and internet went down for two weeks, how would you handle it?

just thinking I ought to get a satellite phone but they're damn expensive

starlink is more useful and they have plans where you only pay for usage

Been thinking of turning an old treadle table that used to be used for a sowing machine and generating electricity with it. Could use that to charge a battery to use the damn thing.

I kinda regret selling my starlink now after we got fiber out here in Dickson County... I have a generator. Hopefully can keep my freezers going for 2 weeks. Reminds me I need to stock up on gas.

I’d love it if that also meant no work!

Vacation from work and internet. Read a few books. Spend my days outside with the kids.

I would probably get a shitload of stuff done since I don't use grid electricity and the internet is a huge distraction in my life.

nice

I’d get out of town quick to bug out location

chess and poker tournaments, bbq, wine, sauna, swimming

Anarchy will break out with two weeks no power and internet. Hopefully we will never experience that.

Damn 2 weeks is a long time… it will be very difficult.

Is it global outage or can we travel?

I guess my first move is to make find friends.

Panic then commit a few crimes

How would your ego handle it?

There are ways for power but im really curious what people will say for internet beyond “starlink”.

I have water and food for the family for two weeks. Plus other supplies. But also 2 weeks is long enough that people would start acting up, having run out of water and food themselves

I’d probably have to continue working . Work doesn’t require internet 🤓

I have solar, life would go on as normal.

Same

That’s what cats are for

My book list is long.

I'd spend my time picking off marauders with my cousin's sniper gun.

Live.

Most would die 🤣

likely

prolly grill some steaks.

on brand

That reminds me to get a hand pump for the well.

Chill at the citadel, cook over fire, fuck the wife

I would probably start to BBQ the half cow and probably about a quarter of a moose that's left in my deep freeze. Unless it's winter then meat in coolers outside and it would be time to go cut some wood to keep the house from freezing up. Thankfully we still have a proper wood fireplace they are kind of a thing of the past around here. Part of me would welcome the break from internet and even electricity but the chaos that would ensure around me would not be I would not lime to see.

Treat it as it should be.

Detox. Read books. Carry cash for day to day needs until Internet is restored.

(Let's be honest probably most newly minted bitcoiners like myself wouldnt look into how to spend sats offline).

Be a good time to get stuck into some books 📚 and hiking 🥾

Been there because of a winter storm in 2017, and survived just fine. It was on a horse ranch so lots of tending during the event.

Hold my breath till it came back.

Life would be a lot easier.

I wouldn't have a job to go to, so I could stay home and get more work done at the homestead, which is already off grid.

This literally happened in Houston last year in the middle of Summer. I stayed in the car with the A/C on and worked from my laptop. I've got batteries now.

For how long?

me "handling" no electricity

Fine.

It would be a more forced true life experience for many people.

I am not scared about it, and i would hope it could happen one day.

Without power it would be a little quiet for me, I've been used to it since childhood and adolescence to live without electricity for long periods of time between blackouts and rationing, because I was born and raised in one of the poorest regions of Brazil, so its ok for me! As for the internet, it would be complicated but less worse than without power ! 🤪😎

Where I live we had 4 months without electricity up to 14 hours a day. It was devastating for everyone.

Like a boss. I’m already ready for it.

I'd need solar power. I appreciate the reminder 👉

I make a trip to where electricity is available and continue coding on nostr.

Gives me an excuse to stop building stuff and begin to chip at a few books on the book shelf.

By reading actual books and walking on the beach.

Turn on my meshtastic, realize no one here has any, turn it off and drive to my home state

We goin’ fishin’ 🎣

I'd probably, just think fuck it. I'm going to sleep through it..

Buy as many bitaxes as I can and wait for the difficulty adjustment

This is why gas matters....I'll be fine, as many others will be who have not ripped out their gas connections in favour of the clean green motto. As for the internet...just get outside, take some wine, books, be creative.

a lot of card games

Ask a few friends to come live with me and turn on the generator. Enjoy time without blue screens.

Just at my house and for me, I'd be OK. State or nation wide I would be sitting on my roof sniping off gangs pillaging my street.

Solar panels and our whole house battery backup. How 'bout you?

Do you have v2h from your car? We are still waiting for tesla to deliver in Australia. Was promised end 2024. Still will have the house battery (12kwh) but car backup (70kwh) is excellent for extended periods.

Nope, no motor vehile here

Cash-In-Hand and go buy supplies on the first day.

List of cooking outside and honestly with the current weather that would be the only difference.

If it would be back after two weeks riots could be stopped probably.

You know what, I lost power for over a week last year during hurricane season. By the end of it I was a healthier person. Went to bed when it got dark (and it was actually dark, without street lights etc). Read books... overall, lived better except for fresh food.

I’d try my best to stay humble…and wait for the next opportunity to stack sats.

Move the family out to our campsite and enjoy the time

I would not handle that very well....

Everything I do as a vibe emanator kinda requires both, sadly.

Aqua dumps

I'd love it. Been waiting for it to crash and never come back. Let's restart with dial up.

The 90s / early 2000s where so great for humanity....

Nonstop gardening, ammo reloading, BBQing

Did that last year with Helene.

We can up tons of garden food every year, doesn’t require refrigeration. Had a generator and gasoline saved up also, so we kept the freezers going. Gas was on, but we also had a wood stove if needed w/ tons of firewoods. My house is by a spring so we have water and a berky filter to clean it

Internet being out wasn’t so bad. We still had a little bit of cell phone signal. Communication was one of my weakest points, which I still need to work on. Luckily I live next to my mom, dad & grandparents. All our neighbors also traded things like gasoline, ice & chainsaws to get through it

I would be stoked. Been prepped up for years.

lol my parents are doomsday preppers so I rlly understand this 😂

My home standby generator would handle it

I would pretty much just die

I’d probably literally ride my dirtbike every single day and rejoice

I have more than enough food and water. I have decent shelter.

I imagine I'd go into withdrawal and detox a little. I bet it would be annoying at times. I hope I'd learn some things.

Living

Whole house generator for the win because it’s miserable hot in Mississippi and I have A LOT of meat frozen!

I’d equal parts miss being connected and relish it, I think.

It be an interesting experiment… a lot would depend on how wide spread… are we talking driving another town over to get fuel or several hours…

Depending on the size of the outage this would be devistating. If you’re talking nation wide it would be chaos and a lot of death in the first two weeks. I’d recommend hunkering down for the first two weeks minimum. Walmart is not where you want to go. Lots of delusional takes in the comments here. You should have water, food, heat and some sort of power figured out for a minimum of a few weeks. This is a good reminder to always ₿ prepping. At least have 2 weeks worth.

Need to prepare. Thx 4 the reminder 🫡

Enjoy the break from work, do an extended fast, go to bed earlier 🤷‍♂️

i would handle it with my off grid system i.e solar + hydro (creek) + gas generator + starlink + farm that grows most of our veggies, eggs etc.

I would certainly panic at first, but after three to four hours I would start to relax, become aware of the facts and start to read a lot and go out for a walk.

Preparing for that

Two days I'm ok

Sun.

nostr:nprofile1qqsqfjg4mth7uwp307nng3z2em3ep2pxnljczzezg8j7dhf58ha7ejgprpmhxue69uhhqun9d45h2mfwwpexjmtpdshxuet5qyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnswf5k6ctv9ehx2aqnz0fd0 I'd reread my paperback copy of mandibles.

Got a generator and can hook it up to my house. Lost power for 6 days once and since I’m on a well, no water makes it miserable.

Oh the irony of Spain demolishing their nuclear power and celebrating it as a win

Vacation

Or staycation

Now you have me thinking. More water, meat and gas.

One tip; starlink, small battery, mobile solar

depends what time of the year

I got solar panels and just ordered a generator running on fuel or propane. So power is not the problem.

When it comes to internet... Yes that's a problem.

I would happily join the meshtastic network but with no other peers in around me I am still not able to communicate.

I’m already off grid so I’d be fine. It would be sad to not have internet but I’d just be outside more.

It would be a refreshing break. Kind of like the first month of Covid.

First of all:

The Fort Nakamoto team is already arguing over whose miner rig caused the outage.

(Spoiler: it was Chad. Chad overclocked the Gamma again.)

Phase 1️⃣: Panic

• Someone tries to zap a flashlight

• One guy attempts to run Starlink via bike generator

• We vote to eat the intern first (unanimous)

Phase 2️⃣: Survival

• Convert seed phrases into firewood

• Cold storage becomes actual cold storage

• Morale collapses when someone realizes their coffee grinder is electric

Phase 3️⃣: Innovation

• Rebuild mesh net with coat hangers and blind optimism

• Rebrand the bunker as “Open-Source Society v0.1”

• Launch the world’s first carrier pigeon Lightning relay (TXs take 4–6 business days)

Final outcome?

Still better uptime than Solana.

Chilling in the sun, going paddle-boarding on the water each day and have a boating accident.

Ill shove my hardware wallet in my ass

Like a boss.

Power will never go down since I'm on solar. I would replace internet with books. Finally some quiet time.

Gravity feed water into house

Small solar system

DC fridge and freezer

Generator for back

Propane for cooking

Wood stove for heating (cooking if need be)

Shit in an outhouse

Years supply of meat stored up

Cellar full of veg.

Surround by close friends whom do the sameish.

GFY to the npc's

Star link on solar

Life savings store in bitcoin with 2 hardware wallets, and two stamped keys on steel hidden in the woods.

I'd have more free time without godamn videoconferences the whole day.

The rest wouldn't change much. Have a farm, would just pass more time with my potatoes and chicken.

Picture related. Getting water today from a local spring. Weekly event, quite boring but really clean water.

I’d move into bitcoin park

I will have a two-week break from the world to reflect. By the way, that can't happen because even if the power goes out we have alternative options for creating electricity.

Man, reading through this thread I am very impressed with the resiliency of this community…also related, gonna need each of you to dox yourself and make room for me and my giant family of youngins upon any disruption of power.

I will continue growing my food, playing music and connected to the earths grid!!

I'm happy when this happens.
