What about a world in which people go to an location or event and can quickly connect to a relay exclusive to that and see things that are happening there and chat to others that are there also? Clients would have to provide some easy way to do this.

"geotags" is the Twitter solution in which there is a global view of the network.
Oh I was thinking more like a social gatherings (concerts, book clubs, gallery events...) Scanning code and debating about this event.
But yeah geotags are usefull for showing POIs and local businesses advertising.
Local businesses could run their own relays with customers feedback like guestbook but on nostr and from there possibilities are endless. Bonus points, coupons, discounts, shop lottery's to win 100% Cashback etc...

This, in my mind, is the concept of "mesh networks". Small networks (and optionally setup over wifi) Allow clients to use wifi to act as the relay, therefore there can be an interconnected mesh network, with or without connection to the wider internet!
Anyone working on this with nostr yet? There are open source projects for mesh networks that can be used as a goby.
Nostr is so much more than twitter ever was or ever will be. The tools that are coming are a big deal !!!

I love this idea. Makes me think of small community based needs. relays involving what citizens need - crops, tools, emergencies. Could there be priority set for key words in private relays to have some sort of urgency system?

That sounds like a very plausible future application. You could similarly even broadcast your return to a geographical location.
There has to be an easier way to add relays, and maybe even set an expiration date for them. If a #nostr client had a way to scan a QR code to connect to a relay, all of the instructions could be included in that, and the client could authenticate on the back end using the user’s npub so they don't have to enter it manually. Add the ability to pay an entry fee by directly pushing an invoice request to the client that opens in their default wallet.

So that when people show up to a venue they can have menus, coupons, maps, promotions, membership applications, etc streamed to them. Enables commerce and opens potential revenue streams and advertising possibilities for local businesses. Incentivizes adoption of bitcoin by local businesses.
I don't see why you couldn't just add a qr code scanner to the relay menu on clients, or a tab for local chats that has a qr code scanner. Does it help though?

Localised relays, domain specific relays and relay filtering needs more work in clients. I want the option to push notes to specific relays in a client. We're holy underutilising the vast potential of relays.

I have a relay I built from parts and OpenWRT with intention of it being for protesters to connect and that relay streams up to others. Same could apply for this concept. There needs to be a way to prevent relays from being broadcast to. Like an allow list for other relays without need for IP blocking.

the local relay is the most local, which means is the best. Fast is a very small part.

there is no global, the illusion of a "global" is a misunderstanding of what nostr is/can do because of seeing it with centralized platforms lenses.
I guess I'm having the biggest problem with the word exclusive. I understand that communities will be formed around relays etc, but all that is fluid. People can be connected across the network, intertwined across multiple relays, etc. It will be probably best to find out, how is the exclusively meant... BTW: Proof of proximity is a pretty interesting concept to think about.
