Fasting for 72 hours is the best medicine in the world.

It stimulates your body to "eat" tumors, inflammation, and toxins.

It's literally an inner doctor.

This is how to fast properly (according to science): đŸ§”

Many people think fasting is only for weight loss or to give the digestive system a break.

But the "magic" happens at the cellular level through autophagy.

This is where the body literally begins to devour itself.

Autophagy = cellular cleanup.

During prolonged fasting, cells begin recycling damaged proteins, dysfunctional mitochondria, and even early-stage cancer cells.

The body finally has a chance to eliminate the accumulated waste that has been causing inflammation and disease.

What does science say about fasting?

A 2014 USC study showed that 72-hour fasts triggered the regeneration of white blood cells from stem cells, essentially reactivating the immune system.

It's well known that fasting works for many conditions.

But why? Because...

It addresses a root cause that modern medicine often overlooks:

The accumulation of cellular debris, damaged proteins, and weakened mitochondria causes chronic inflammation.

Removing these allows for natural healing.

Now that you understand the science, here's how to perform a 72-hour fast:

Before you start: Prepare your body (2-3 days before) Start intermittent fasting (16:8 method) at least 3 days before your extended fast. Eat during an 8-hour window and fast for 16 hours. This gradually activates your metabolism to burn fat.

At the same time, reduce carbohydrates and increase healthy fats in the days leading up to the fast.

This begins your body's transition into ketosis even before you begin the full fast.

Good fats to focus on include avocado, olive oil, grass-fed butter, and MCT oil.

Hours 0-24: The Challenge Phase

The first 24 hours are challenging, but manageable.

Your body is shifting to burning fat, which causes hunger, irritability, and energy swings. This is normal and temporary.

Your hunger hormone, ghrelin, begins to stabilize after the first day.

Hours 24-48: The Transition Phase

Around 36 hours, many people report an increase in mental clarity and energy as ketones fuel the brain.

Growth hormone increases by 300%, preserving muscle mass and boosting fat burning.

Fat loss accelerates dramatically.

Hours 48-72: The Healing Phase

The last 24 hours are where the deepest healing occurs.

Chronic joint pain may disappear, along with other positive changes, during this phase.

Mental fogginess dissipates as inflammation subsides.

How to overcome it without suffering?

Drink 2 to 3 liters of pure water a day.

And supplement with electrolytes.

This reduces discomfort.

What can you consume during this 72-hour fast?

‱ Pure water (still or sparkling)

‱ Black coffee (no cream or sugar)

‱ Black tea (herbal or regular)

‱ Electrolytes (as listed above)

That's it. Purists only drink water.

The most important thing: How to break a fast?

‱ Start with bone broth.

‱ Wait an hour and then eat one or two scrambled eggs or avocado.

‱ Wait another hour before eating a light meal with protein and healthy fats.

‱ Avoid carbohydrates, sugar, and processed foods for at least 24 hours afterward.

Not eating for 72 hours isn't easy.

The first time is the hardest. The second is challenging, but manageable. By the third, you'll be surprised at how easy it becomes.

Your body learns and adapts, making each subsequent fast more comfortable.

The benefits accumulate.

based!

I’m going to have to research into this and hopefully give it a go soon

Llegué a hacer ayuno 48hs pero no 72, quiero intentarlo

Yo tampoco, pero ayuno de forma intermitente con bastante regularidad.

ÂĄPuedes hacerlo, hermano!

The longest one i managed to do was 12 days. And then i collapsed :eyes: But was a good one experience. Normally i just do intermittent fasting.

Pero como vas a hacer 12 dĂas? EstĂĄs loco? Jaja eso sĂ que no es saludable, te desmayas

enjoyed reading the science behind it. 💯

I did 72 hours once too. Felt so good and strong after this!

Quiero intentarlo

I do one 36-hour fast every week, which sometimes goes to 40 or more, but I haven't ever done 72 yet.

Es mucho 72 pero algĂșn dĂa lo harĂ©

That sounds fucking terrible

It’s not

I absolutely love doing autophagy fasting. It can come with some tough moments but mindset is everything!

Llegaste a 72hs? Yo aĂșn no

That's right! The mental clarity is astounding though. It's especially good for deep meditation.

I have yet to try meditation but should give that a shot next time!

In the last period I am deepening the subject. I think I'll try soon for the first time.

Thank you. I’ve been thinking about this, but this is what I needed to push me into doing it.

Your body isn’t “overworked” and in need of some “maintenance and cleanup” time. Everything is happening at the local cell level everywhere all the time. Homeostasis is a dynamic constancy, not some process your little ape brain needs to schedule for it. Every other species is just fine without this silliness, you will be too.

Look the mid curve thinks he’s not mid curve

Talking to the mirror again bro?😂

Way to ignore all the modern science and evidence, thousands of years of knowledge and experience, this entire post and all the comments. Yep, you know best!

I made no claims about knowing best, but mix in a few free community college basic biology classes before talking about thousands of years of knowledge you don’t have yet - proof of work yo

I would agree with you if we lived in a perfect environment only eating and using natural products. We’ve evolved to a point where we destroy ourselves daily! Some people’s systems are functioning at a level to handle it but most of us are compromised. Simply look around
do most of the people you know even look healthy?

No they don’t look healthy, you are correct on that front! I just hate scammers and most detox stuff is selling a scam to folks that never had the time to get through enough biology to understand there is no such thing as a “detox”. Just eat natural move every day and you’re good. So things like O2 and CO2 are not good and bad things, they need to be in the correct homeostatic ratio, but we don’t have to intervene with a $49.99 treatment 😀

There's a reason fasting has been seen as physically and spiritually beneficial for thousands of years. I do a full three day fast once a year. I don't love it but I definitely feel good after I do it.

Lo tengo que hacer

Can confirm. Just did 72 last week, can’t recommend enough. Also did a parasite cleanse. Profound.

Que bien 👏👏👏

How did you do the parasite cleanse? interested...

Es verdad como hiciste eso, me interesa también

Some take pharmaceutical’s like Ivermectin - but I chose to go the diet/herbal route. I took a 10 day supplement of anti-parasitic herbs and ate a diet of mainly of fruit and vegetables to starve them. No meat, dairy or sugar. I’m not a doctor, but the the things I saw cannot be unseen. The product I used is from foodoverdrugs.com and she has some thorough information there. Highly recommended.

Verified. I do 5days water fast a year and the benefits are extraordinary. A key thing is to know on how to break your fast. Otherwise you don’t reap all the benefits.

Genial, lo voy a hacer, he llegado hasta 48 hs

Yeah agreed. Sugary foods, even healthy ones, I find can be problematic. Best to go with fats and proteins to start. Bone broth is ideal, followed by eggs, avocado, meats. Small portions, eat slowly and save the fruits and quick carbs for later in the day.

What kind of physical activity would you recommend from experience? Gym/Sports possible?

Si, cualquier actividad fĂsica, igual en ayuno de 72hs lo recomendable es no hacer ejercicio

I translated your answer to english and the answer is confusing 🙈

it says “Yes, any physical activity, even in 72-hour fasting, it is recommended not to exercise” does it mean it is recommended to do zero physical activity?

Some very light yoga works for me and maybe a short walk but no you definitely don't want to go to the gym!

I hear you 🧡

I’ve been fasting long enough that I can generally go to the gym and do my normal workout. You actually get a testosterone boost that helps you be able to stay active.

I wouldn’t recommend 72 hours right off the bat. I’ve done 36. That was enough. It’s better to break a fast with local seasonal fruit if you have it. Concord grape juice as well for liquids in between.

He hecho 48hs, mi prĂłximo paso es 72hs

I guess everyone is different, but I find sugary foods, even healthy ones, can be problematic.

For me I find it best to start with fats and proteins. Bone broth is perfect, followed a bit later by eggs, avocado, meats.

Always small portions, always eat slowly and save the "quick carbs" for later in the day.

Nunca he hecho un ayuno de este tipo.

Igual algun dĂa habrĂĄ que probarlo :)

44 hours in!

I always "cheat" with a dash of lemon juice in my water and a spoon of MCT oil on days 2&3. Without these I just get too fainty and can't keep it going beyond 40-ish hours.

Great write-up, thank you.

Si, cuesta, no he podido pasar las 48hs yo

Definitely best to ease into it. Try 36 hours first then next time 48 hours, etc

Nice hack👍

congrats brother đŸ’Ș

36 dry fasting is where ive got up to

working to keep increasing my limits

Wait, are you talking no water?

What’s the benefit to not having water. Seems dumb

Agua si o si hay que tomar

try it and see

and if you don't like it don't do it

I should probably do this

Si, al menos 1 vez al año

36 hrs is easy. I do twice a month - new moon and full moon days.

"Not reading for 72 hours isn't easy...you'll be surprised how easy it becomes"

This is real. I do a 40+ hour fast for Tritium (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday) each year, and each year it gets easier. At some point, I think I'm hoping to have to make it significantly longer if it is to remain a difficult and efficacious spiritual discipline. I've begun to feel just amazing some holy Saturday afternoon.

Nunca lleguĂ© a 72 hs pero pienso hacerlo algĂșn dĂa

Well done. I’ve gone 9 days and it was empowering. 🙏

I’m going to do this after I get home from vacation. Too much good food here in Taiwan that I won’t be able to eat as often in Florida.

One thing better than 72 hour fast is a 100-120 hour fast. You get to keep the mental clarity for an extra day or two and day two is always the hardest. The next few have been easy. Got to be able to do 16 hours without eating regularly and 24 hours a few times before trying the longer ones though #fasting

Uf 100-120 es mucho

Love this breakdown on a 72 hr fast!

If you’ve never tried fasting before the easiest thing to do is stop eating an hour earlier than usual. You’re already “fasting” for 8 hrs while you’re asleep! First goal should be a full 13 hrs if you’ve never done it before.

A lot of people prefer to skip breakfast however after years of fasting, experimenting and research I’d suggest consistently eating within 2 hrs after waking up max.

This signals your body that it’s morning which is important for your circadian rhythm, cortisol levels and so many other functions.

Making sure this is a high protein and fat meal, low carb helps staves off cravings for unhealthy foods throughout the rest of the day. Keeping you energized and satiated.
