Managed to get a bunch of devs off telegram 💪

Much more work remains. Who is making the jump to Signal?

I use both, have mainly switched to signal only.

I did. Was there a change to telegram or are people just noticing that it's not secure now?

Just now starting to care maybe

Only took them 5 years…

Took me 10

telegrams server is not open source

Correct

signal for as much comm as i can do but i still have friends who sms 😮‍💨

Signal, Simple X and Matrix here. I don’t get the whole telegram thing, genuinely baffled by it. Especially when it’s help for things like Robosats.

How about nostr, like 0xchat. Nah?

I’m not sure how secure it is

npub10td4yrp6cl9kmjp9x5yd7r8pm96a5j07lk5mtj2kw39qf8frpt8qm9x2wl how secure would you say it is by comparison?

I'm uncertain about the specific security aspects mentioned here. But 0xchat provides amber login, Nip17 DM (to prevent metadata leaks), and secret chat (Nip17 + aliaskeys with forward security)

Signal's double ratchet algorithm is currently recognized as the most secure algorithm, but many people might not yet be familiar with Nip17. In fact, Nip17 combined with aliaskey also offers a good level of security imo.

reality is they compromise your phone and double ratchet becomes meaningless

keet has double rachet btw too

I just looked this up, are you taking about keet by holepunch?

yes

it looks pretty cool and an interesting solution to privacy. what I'm not seeing though is how it prevents a breach if your device is compromised. since each phone is a server the data is still locally present right? or am I misunderstanding something?

it does store the data encrypted at rest and there is plans to lock the app tho some android can already do that, but what app can prevent data leak if a device is compromised? are you refering to revoking access for a device? i would assume that is planned

yes the data is local, not all may be tho which is unlike signal for example, keet can store part of the data but it must live somewhere to exist

We can start thinking about it when end-to-end encryption comes to the protocol

Might as well jump past signal to simplex, it's gotten better and better. Esp devs, can handle it.

Was rough last I tried it

desktop / mobile interoperability for an acct was huge, added recently and worked for me when i tried it out

I forget exactly why I stopped using it but it was enough to make me want to quit

Maybe dropped messages with no errors? Even after hearing, "it's much better now", I ran into that defect immediately, as I akways have in the past. I've blacklisted the app.

Same

It's daily driver for me.

I know, but worth to try just one more time... I am curious the if iOS has improved as much as android

jump them all to keet and the devs will likely give up on nostr for pear

Telegram is the new WhatsApp

Signal and SimpleX have both improved a lot but I’m holding out for private messaging (sans meta data) to be cracked on nostr with a variety of delicious group ux’s

Relentless Optimism

It’s like the nostr gods were listening in… you wish for it and they’re already all over it

nostr:npub1gzuushllat7pet0ccv9yuhygvc8ldeyhrgxuwg744dn5khnpk3gs3ea5ds had a hand in this by nostr:npub1catrya6c7rdnny0useday5ftxq9ycl5vt7c880zzmfwnpn58urgq6neuhz :

Hi, well, I created the issue, but it was edited by nostr:npub1qqqqqqqx2tj99mng5qgc07cgezv5jm95dj636x4qsq7svwkwmwnse3rfkq who had the brilliant idea of including ECDH and the a kind of chat created by @Gzuuus

team work... we're all building on the shoulders of giants

keet kills them all

if keet was fully open source I might agree

its a damned good app... but right now can't be trusted

can be trusted somewhat, especially with the feds seeming to poke around already trying to find how to track users

Nostr is where its at

Telegram to Signal? Seriously?

Signal is one of the most obvious honeypots in the history of opsec.

If it's so obvious then show me the github commit in the open source client that makes it a honeypot.

Can't wait to replace them all with keet

What do you like about keet?

p2p, key based id, sovereignty, scaling, easily replication of data, privacy, file sharing, no phone or email, clear calls, zoom like video calls, super cool devs

Video only good feature. Everything else is too buggy to work.

totally keet will replace signal and all, not sure why they are using signal for a group chat as the rooms are so limited in size unlike keet with no size limits lol

Wish we could but keet for performance just isn't there.

They'll never open source the code either so no need to waste time. Been using it for years and they keep kicking the can on this.

If I can't see the code, how can I trust it to be P2P?

wireshark the connections, it will be open source and the performance will improve

Local meetup people have recently started a Signal chat and a few complete ditched Telegram.

Nice. As soon as the people who matter move with me I’m ditching it too.

Cool. Many people falsely think you have to link you phone number, which has been a hurdle.

Yep. That came up in conversation

Why Signal when you could have moved them over to Simplex? And if Signal, why not at least Molly?

Your effort is good, execution not.

I used simplex for a while and even had some family members on it but at one point our conversation disappeared and it was difficult to get in contact again . Overall UX wasn’t there yet. Signal is simple and good UX

Always have been. chiptuner.59

Signal is a step in the right direction.

SimpleX is where I currently am. It's less slick but IMO the furthest edge.
