Proper hydration is so fucking confusing. You can drink fuck tons of water but still wake up thirsty. Turns out you need sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Alright time to add that to the diet. Oops still thirsty in the morning.. turns out the ratios weren’t right. Alright then let’s look at symptoms of mineral deficiencies. Symptoms seem fine so wtf am I supposed to do? Add more salt to the water. Less salt. No salt. Nothing is helping. More research says could be diabetes. Blood test says no. More research… bedroom has to be a certain temperature and humidity. Wtf am I supposed to do about that? Buys humidifier. Nothing changes. More research… “sleeping with mouth open can lead to dehydration.” How do I even test that? Fuck.

i think there’s “mouth tape” for sleeping w your mouth open

have you tried LMNT? :o

I looked into it but didn’t try it because it has stevia in it. Most of the hydration powders have tons of sugar or artificial sweeteners unfortunately. I drink a lot of coconut water which I think should do the same thing but doesn’t seem to help.

What is mouth tape? Idk if I can sleep with that on 😂

They have an unflavored that is just the minerals, nothing more

I didn’t even know they had one of these, thank you I’ll try it!

yess this one is the best one!

hahah maybe mouth tape is a little too much, have you tried sleeping without a pillow?

it helps open up your airways, so your body doesn’t resort to mouth breathing

I’ve never been able to sleep without a pillow it was just too uncomfortable for me. I’ll try again tonight!

it took me about a month to get comfortable, but now i despise sleeping w a pillow lol, they’ve moved to just being decoration

Sleeping without a pillow is convenient. Do you feel your neck is healthier? Better posture maybe?

oh definitely, my posture is so much better; i actually started sleeping without a pillow for that reason. give it a try!

i’m just going to say that if you’re a side sleeper, you do need some sort of support (i use my arm or a tiny pillow) to keep your spine aligned, but i usually sleep face up

I’m a side sleeper but I’ll try to sleep on my back tonight

What kind of pillow do you use for side sleeping?

i’ll send you some pics once i get home :)!

Thank you!

sorry i fell asleep 😭

the pillows i use are buckwheat pillows, they’re small and the buckwheat moves around as your head moves, so it’s not extra fluffy or too flat

Will get one today and let you know how it goes

Forgot to update you. This thing smelled disgusting and was thicker than the pillow I already used so I returned it 😅

oh noo, did you get it off amazon?

Yes lol

ok, mistake #1 lol

mine came from this website:

https://haikudesigns.com/products/organic-buckwheat-pillow

Does yours smell funky?

define funky? haha

it definitely has a natural smell to it (close to oatmeal) but i’m used to it.

It’s how I imagine a homeless hippy in the middle of an acid trip would smell like 😂

my favorite type of ppl

Just eat rare steaks with salt and drinks some orange juice for magnesium

Water from the steak is the most hydrating. Something something deuterium depleted mitocondria water

😂😂

I already eat a rare ribeye steak every day. I drink orange juice a few times a week.

Bahahaha. Depends on the individual and how well they absorb water naturally. I have to get some electrolytes, but it’s just a tiny bit of table salt each day (could even be eating like 5 saltines and a whole bottle of water). Humidifier is less important (in my experience/opinion) unless you’re waking up with dry skin, nose, and throat. I do potassium and magnesium a little bit, but potassium is best absorbed for me by literally eating a banana, whereas a lot of research indicates the magnesium absorption is most efficient transdermally so I do an epson salt bath biweekly.

It’s also super important to understand the difference between a mineral “deficiency” vs. malabsorption

My doctor had me do this whole probiotic gut repair kit. Took like 3 months and it helped me absorb my food better. I also cut out gluten because my tests showed I had a severe sensitivity to it. Energy levels have improved a lot too but yeah I wake up once in the middle of the night to drink water then wake up again in the morning thirsty as fuck.

I usually have honey, two bananas, 1-2 apples, and maybe a pear every day. I took magnesium supplements but it didn’t seem to do much. Maybe it’s too much potassium?

Probably. Have you heard of adrenal cocktails by chance ?

I’m kind of in the same boat as you, but have been researching trace minerals and using the adrenal cocktail daily for about a month. Took like 2 weeks to notice benefits for me

My doctor said I have adrenal fatigue syndrome or some shit. He just told me to take a bunch of vitamin c but it makes me feel like fucking dog shit so I stopped taking it.

He should have referred you to a dietician. They barely touch the tip of the iceberg with nutrition in med school curriculum.

He’s a functional health doctor so they focus on causes and diet a bit more than traditional doctors. He’s the one that suspected I had malabsorption. I don’t really trust nutritionists that are going to just tell me to stop eating meat because my cholesterol is too high 😂

Nooo not nutritionalist, dietician. There’s a huge difference, but that’s great you found a doc like that. Sorry for harassing your post. Trace minerals are a hugeeeee interest of mine and I got a little too excited with unsolicited advice 😂

I am inviting unsolicited advice at this point. How much salt does my water need? How much potassium? Where does magnesium even come from? 😂

I heard Dr. Berg say to only drink water when you’re thirsty but that didn’t really help either

It’s so complicated. But based on my research, it has more to do with iron and copper. The magnesium, potassium, sodium, and whole food vitamin c are supposed to help regulate the malabsorption of iron into the liver through copper. So it’s not “too much” or “too little” iron, it’s how too much iron is being absorbed into the liver and trapped. Basically, copper helps regulate the iron and the trace minerals help regulate the copper 🤦‍♀️

No wonder those copper IUDs fuck up so many women lol

So if I take vitamin c and notice it’s making me irritable, do I take less of it or more?

Less baha. And I suggest orange juice and not actually supplement forms

Get a good electrolyle mix. Assuming you wanna avoid sugar, drinklmnt.com has a good product and made for low/no carb people

"Waking up thirsty" sounds totally normal, unless you always have a headache or some major dehydration symptoms besides thirst. You always breathe out some water vapor, and you can't drink while you sleep, so there's a limit to what you can do about it. Personally I just start hydrating right away in the morning, and I make sure to drink a certain amount every day. I think that's fine.

I don’t have headaches or low energy. Everything is normal throughout the day. Even the color of my urine isn’t very dark in the morning. But the amount of thirst I’m having is different. I usually wake up in the middle of the night thirsty then wake up thirsty again in the morning it’s really annoying lol I never need to urinate in the middle of the night though. So it sounds like you might be right that I’m losing water while breathing during my sleep

Have other things changed? Diet, medication, exercise? Maybe some other things is making you thirstier overall.

Also one great way to deal with excessive thirst is to get laaaiiiidd 😁

Nothing else has really changed but I cut back on dairy because I think I’m lactose intolerant. But my morning thirst is the same regardless of how much dairy I consume.

Can’t get laid right now

Maybe I’ll substitute a sauna trip for getting laid

Many medications can do this so if you're taking ANY, it's possible that might be your issue.

I don’t take medication

Could just be a lack of certain minerals/electrolytes, high salt intake, high stress hormones, or high blood sugar. It may take time to fix if you're eating better now and your diet was shit for a long time, especially if you have absorption issues.

I wouldn't necessarily stress about sodium/potassium because most people ingest plenty of both, but a good magnesium supplement is one I would consider taking daily (because it's stripped from soil now) and adjust the dose if you experience loose stools.

I do have organs in my diet, would that be a good magnesium source?

I’ve struggled to bring my stress down for over a year now. Doing therapy at the moment but could it really have that big of an effect?

You're not going to get a great magnesoum source from any foods because bad agriculture practices have stripped most of it from the soil, so a significant amount doesn't make it into our foods.

Magnesium is one of the most important elements to be ingested. It's involved in SO many bodily processes - stress mitigation is one of those.

High intensity exercise (like sprints), cold exposure, and saunas are another great way to help your body learn to deal with stressors.

The organs I eat are grassfed from New Zealand. I take Paul Saladino’s heart and soil organ supplement. I believe those are regeneratively raised cows. I don’t really notice any difference when I had taken the magnesium supplements

Not all are supplements are created the same

Not all have the same bioavailability

If you're profoundly low and aren't taking enough to really catch up, you might not notice a difference. It may take longer.

Then again, it just may not be your issue, too.

Looks promising. Do you use this?

I have that one too!!!! Tastes like ass though

Lmao I wonder if it tastes like that because it sits in Amazon warehouses all day

Probably

Adding an excessive amount will heavily mineralize the water, giving it a distinct chlorine taste, and resulting in a slick texture, due to the alkalizing properties of the elements.

Si, I usually promote what I have personal experience with, unless stated otherwise.

As for the water, I'll pour some mineral concentrate into a 5-gallon glass jug to avoid the need to dispense droplets every time I want a cup of water.
