I think most of the boiled linseeds have drying agents in them. Still useful for non food grade wood

Making mint chocolate chip gelato!

Bought this ice cream maker the other week and we’re making a quart or 2 per day (it’s hot here lol).

Egg yolks from our chickens, raw cream from a friends farm, local honey, herbs from our garden, & minerals/sea salt are the base for each batch.

So far we’ve made a basic vanilla honey, banana walnut, chocolate coconut almond, and wild blueberry for the kids.

Trying to use the ingredients we already have but open to other flavors if anyone has suggestions..

Homesteaders and gardeners out there, how do you move your mulch/compost without machinery?

I’ve given up on wheel barrows unless I’m on uneven terrain and switched over to this.

Can get 3 wheel barrows worth in one load and not have to use a rake to spread.

I’m trying to think of other commonly used tools that are inefficient.. The main one that comes to mind is the clamshell post hole digger. I’d much rather use a sharp shooter & small bucket or an auger. Any others you can think of?

We have access to a lot of beef fat, so we’re finally experimenting with rendering to make zinc sunscreen, magnesium lotions and comfrey salves.

Any other ideas for how to use (besides cooking)?

Or any other tips?

Will probably share some of these as Christmas gifts for family.. will be nice to have that done half way through the year

Little dude helped me harvest some onions today. He was stoked every time he got one free and into the bin.

I finally did this the other night and it feels good. It was only a few hundred here and there but now it’s all BTC

Swale and berm dug about 3 years ago to help slow/sink the water that was flooding the house. Now full of annual veg, fruit trees, medicinals, and 15’ volunteer sunflowers!

Here is a before and present of the berm with the bridge over the swale. I don’t irrigate any of this and it survives Texas heat thanks to the deep mulch

Finally finished mounting solar panels on the roof thanks to a friend who was willing to throw them up to me (even in 100 degree heat).

Ordered a whole pallet and they all fit by a few inches with some some finagling- minor miracle.

On to wiring and configuring everything in the garage..

I see the physical manifestation of

“Out of sight, out of mind” made possible by petroleum.

For the first year I’ve exclusively hauled all slash and logs back to my homestead from clients projects to either compost, mulch or make biochar with. Also experimenting with a giant hugel mound to shelter bee hives from kids.

In the past I would take it for free chipping since it was so much quicker to unload, so I totally understand people doing this
