Are you willing to have lightning channels opened to your node?
Mining would be the way to get them interested. I need to learn this first so I can lure them in with weird side projects that pique their interest

Thank God for tradesmen who know what they're doing and care about their craftsmanship. These guys are good dudes, albeit rough around the edges. But they want to know how to do things and do them well.
I, for one, appreciate them.
Young men, take note. Such competence is not a bad way to make a living, even today.

The possibility of signifcant increase in buying power for bitcoin is not simply a function of its speculative nature. Buying and holding bitcoin for principled reasons is actually quite difficult and represents significant risk--the factors at play are more than just personal gain and storing the value of one's labor, but also a more sound monetary asset and the separation of money and state. The possibility of significant gain represents an incentive to help motivate those who take these risks to take them both prudently and courageously, and to persevere in the face of extreme difficulty and distraction. That is no small thing. A dictum in this respect would be: Show me the incentives, and I'll show you the outcome. Bitcoiners are serving a noble good and the possibility of monetary gain is one factor among many important factors that helps to incentivize what would otherwise be unimaginably difficult for most people.

I also think the idea of intrinsic value is a distraction in this discussion. Correct me if I'm wrong: in the sense you're using it here, "intrinsic value" means "good for something other than being used as money, and therefore [more] free from speculative abuse". But the claim is that bitcoin is a new form of money that creates digital scarcity through the binding of real world energy expenditure to an immutable distributed ledger in order to secure it from attack and recalibrate the accuracy of the price signal. Digital scarcity is such a profound innovation that it's hard to make a comparison to other monetary phenomena. "Intrinsic value" is something like a skeuomorph of the prior forms of money that were necessarily physical. A skeuomorph is "a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues from structures that were necessary in the original." But bitcoin is innovative precisely because it eliminates the need to bind scarcity to physicality, offering pure scarcity in the digital realm by the capture of energy through proof-of-work.
SecureSafe was my app of choice before switching to self hosted Vaultwarden.
SecureSafe worked great. And can integrate well into all platforms and browsers. Also had an inheritance protocol included,b which I now miss.
Vaultwarden isn't as functional but is very easy to use if running your own @Start9 machine.
I also think ProtonPass is worth checking out.
Good questions. Off the cuff, I'd say that one's reasons for learning about and holding bitcoin may vary. But the intentions behind the creation of Bitcoin obviously draw on moral sources, especially the devastating effects of unsound money on society and the need to separate money from state. (See HΓΌlsmann's THE ETHICS OF MONEY PRODUCTION.) This in my view is the determinant for the morality of holding Bitcoin even as it is treated as a speculative get-rich scheme by some... which seems far less prevalent among bitcoiners than it does in the spinoff communities that are deeply scammy. By no means is it absent. In the end, I would hold Bitcoin even if it didn't appreciate massively in value. Its qualities as sound money and a savings vehicle for the masses-- an open, permissionless, trustless bearer asset, that cannot be corrupted by any central authority, seems like good enough of a deal to stake one's wealth on in the hopes that it can address the deep and hidden injustices of the current system.
It is the mark
of a great mind to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Something I've been struggling with lately is how to invest wisely and ethically. I believe we have a moral obligation to avoid investing in companies that contribute to or participate in moral evil. Likewise, I believe investments based purely on speculation are immoral in principle.
So, the question becomes, how does one craft a stock portfolio that meets these criteria? Most people, myself included, don't have the time to research each company I might invest in to determine whether they are a morally acceptable investment.
I think I've found at least the start of an answer. For my fellow Christians, Ave Maria Mutual Funds maintains mutual funds that consist only in stocks of companies that follow ethical investment guidelines. They do all the research, and the board is made up of trusted Catholic individuals.
Here is their website: https://www.avemariafunds.com/
I believe Mutual of America also has a Catholic Values fund. And, outside the huge investment company umbrella, one of the best smaller investment vehicles is farmafield.com (disclaimer: I know the owners and have invested with them in the past)
Were it up to me, 100% of my savings would go into bitcoin. I have come to believe more and more in the "voting" power of holding bitcoin and focusing on living rather than becoming a part time investor doing research into abstruse company filings and completely out of one's depth: a point first conveyed quite powerfully to me by Saifedean.
But barring the possibility of that particular allocation ratio, yes, finding an ethical investment vehicle is just not optional.
Iβm not exactly sure, but I think it has something to do with AUTH. You need to go in to Settings -> App Settings and enable βAuthenticate with relaysβ and save.
You donβt need to AUTH for nostr.wine unless youβre requesting DMs but itβs possible when it gets an AUTH prompt it stops using that relay unless that setting is turned on. Perhaps nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn can clarify for us.
A setting in Nostur allowed me to turn on AUTH for my paid relays and we are back in business, connecting just fine now.
No other client I am using had that setting, from what I could tell (Amethyst, Coracle)
That's helpful to know, thank you!
I guess the breakdown is in Coracle, then, being able to correctly report which relays are transmitting the notes it broadcasts? Wine and Coracle don't seem to get along
Having trouble posting and getting stuff onto nostr.wine
Posted this note hours ago:
Only shows up on the following relays:

This is my relay list:

Any suggestions nostr:nprofile1qyd8wumn8ghj7urewfsk66ty9enxjct5dfskvtnrdakj7qguwaehxw309a5x7ervvfhkgtnrdaexzcmvv5h8gmm0d3ej7qg5waehxw309aex2mrp09skymr99ehhyee0qyghwumn8ghj7vf5xqhxvdm69e5k7tcqyztuwzjyxe4x2dwpgken87tna2rdlhpd02va5cvvgrrywpddnr3jy5ezn0m nostr:nprofile1qyv8wumn8ghj7cm9d3kxzu3wdehhxarj9emkjmn99uq3samnwvaz7tmrwfjkzarj9ehx7um5wgh8w6twv5hszythwden5te0dehhxarj9emkjmn99uqzq0vy9tlv6h3f8u5tvcnexdcy50acec2n42ga0y9tz8m2w5k5ffpddyknh0 ?
I only have experience with nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll but my experience has been outstanding. I bought a couple different versions of their hardware and have learned a ton, starting from basically nothingβI am non tech. Their customer service is outstanding on Telegram. Once their next OS upgrade comes out I think it will define the standard for self-hosting and ease of onboarding. Look up Matt Hill and listen to some of his appearances on various podcasts (Stephan Livera would be a good example) to learn about their unique ethos.
The developers know their stuff and are breaking new ground in this areaβ¦. Very cool to watch.
Found this Spring app (I forget who linked me up with it) from NostrBand and installed it onto Android from GitHub:
https://github.com/nostrband/nostr-universe
Very cool way to access many different Nostr apps in one place, and log in securely on mobile. Everything appears to run like a PWA.

Man, I am kind of baffled as to why nostr.wine is so rarely connecting. For a paid relay, it's only working about half the time according to Coracle. I am logged in via browser extension. Any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong?

10 ways to support ZEUS in 2024
1. Download and try out the app
ZEUS is mobile bitcoin lightning for Android and iOS. It lets you spin up a self-custodial lightning wallet on your phone, or connect to a remote node that you may have at home (Umbrel, Start9, RaspiBlitz, myNode etc.) or in the cloud (Voltage).
You can onboard to lightning with ease using our LSP, or open up lightning channels on your own to anyone you want on the network. The app also feature a self-custodial lightning address (ZEUS Pay), a Nostr-powered contact book, a standalone and Square-integrated point of sale system, and countless other features.
It's 100% free and open source software.

2. Write and review code
If you're a coder we could always use more code contributors and reviews of our open pull requests. Almost 50 people have contributed so far. Let's get to 100!
GitHub: https://github.com/ZeusLN/zeus
3. Feedback, issues, feature requests
Not everyone can code. That's OK, you can still have a massive impact. Let us know if you find a bug, have an idea for a new feature, or have any feedback.
GitHub Issues: https://github.com/ZeusLN/zeus/issues
Telegram chat: https://t.me/zeusLN
4. Give us a star on GitHub
If you have a Github account consider throwing us a star. It improves our visibility on GitHub and helps attract new coders to the project.
GitHub: https://github.com/ZeusLN/zeus
5. Translations
We're trying to make ZEUS accessible to everyone in the world. Join our 100+ translators and help add or review translations. There are a ton of languages we've started on but need to complete.
Transifex translation portal: https://explore.transifex.com/ZeusLN/zeus/
6. Documentation
ZEUS is a powerful but often complex tool - with many ways to use it (we have both a built-in, embedded node + wallet, and also support remote connections). We need a lot more help on our docs to help newcomers get started and get connected to the Lightning Network with ZEUS.
Docs site: https://docs.zeusln.app
Docs GitHub repo: https://github.com/ZeusLN/zeus-docs
7. Use the LSP
OLYMPUS by ZEUS is our LSP, and is quickly climbing up the lightning node rankings. You can buy a channel from us in the app using wrapped invoices and just-in-time channels that will onboard you to lightning without the hassle of manually opening up channels. Just pay an invoice generated in ZEUS from any other lightning wallet and you're onboarded in seconds.
The LSP now also works in-app with remote LND nodes, so you can get these just-in-time channels from us if you're using a remote or cloud node.
More LSP services will be launching soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

8. Buy some merch
We have a bunch of different merch options available for purchase with Bitcoin on our store.
We think the designs are pretty good, and they're opsec-friendly too, so you don't have to worry too much about those $15 wrench attacks.
ZEUS store: https://store.zeusln.com/
9. Donate some sats / become and community sponsor
Those who donate over 100k sats get featured on our About page on our website and in our app. You can also donate anonymously. No amount is too small. Proceeds go towards development and bounties to help make the ZEUS app even better.
ZEUS donation portal: https://zeusln.com/sponsor
ZEUS About page: https://zeusln.com/about
10. Spread the word, use Bitcoin, and build the circular economy
Lastly, and most importantly, be sure you continue use Bitcoin and help onboard other people to the network. Let your friends know not only about ZEUS, but also about Bitcoin, the Lightning Network, and the importance of running your own node and of holding your own keys.
We're going to win with strength in numbers. Orange pilling can be exhausting - both to the shillers and newcomers - so instead of just jumping into what's so great about Bitcoin, take the time within your community to shake hands with local merchants and the people you buy your food from and actually listen to the problems they have and try to empathize with them. Then you'll surely be able to identify at least one way Bitcoin can help them in our current environment that's rife with inflation, surveillance, censorship, and financial predation.
This not only helps ZEUS but also helps fortify the Bitcoin community.
Thanks for reading. We appreciate every bit of support, no matter how you decide to provide it.
Cheers.

I'm just over the river. I'm going to have to lead a recon party to investigate here soon.
Bitwarden does cache everything locally.
Helped a friend sweep his Phoenix wallet channels back to Cash app. Transaction cleared in less than 24 hours. Now, working on getting him back into self custody cold storage. I'm thinking Nunchuk...
