Then there's the cost of living in a so-called "green" city where virtue signaling often trumps practicality. Vancouver residents are constantly hit with fuel taxes, carbon levies, and congestion-related costs, all in the name of sustainability, while public transit struggles to meet real-world demand and infrastructure projects face endless delays.

Then there’s housing. Good luck owning a home unless you’re a millionaire or inherited wealth. The average detached house is well over $2 million, and even a shoebox-sized condo will drain your life savings. Meanwhile, people in other provinces get twice the space for half the price. The city’s zoning laws and bureaucratic red tape, often justified by social planning theories, make development a nightmare and do little to ease the supply crunch. Add on property taxes and endless fees, and you’re paying premium prices for a lower quality of life.

And don’t even think about driving. The roads are clogged, poorly planned, and constantly under construction. Yet the city is aggressively hostile toward drivers, bike lanes take priority, parking is a joke, and you’re penalized for owning a car in a place where you almost need one to get anything done. It's a war on convenience disguised as progressive urbanism.

In theory, socialism promises equality and fairness. In practice, in Vancouver’s case, it often translates into excessive government interference, bloated spending on symbolic projects, and policies that end up hurting the middle and working class the most. Wealthy elites still thrive, while the average citizen struggles to stay afloat.

buying a village with friends and starting a citadel there sounds like a great idea but when you get down into the details of trying to determine a good location for it then things start to get very complicated quickly

Vancouver is just as bad. It rains too much, crowded and way overpriced. I would leave if I were you but there is really no where to go that I can recommend.

You can send your kid to study in the USA and then you can immigrate to the USA. The USA is way better and especially in weather. Hopefully Canada beocmes part of the USA in the next 20 years. It's our only hope, that and Bitcoin going to 10 million a coin so we can leave this dump of a country.

Android is Linux, the internet runs on Linux. OS X is heavily based on FreeBSD. The Steam Deck is Linux. ChromeOS is based on Linux.

It's exactly why the only BTC I hold comes from zaps. KYC, much like CBDCs and digital ID, is supremely dangerous and the end of all freedom.

Well, I don't know how Swift works. On Compose the rendering of simpler apps is usually <1ms unless there is some animation (which uses immediate mode) or re-measurement of something (like a link turning it into a preview - which is retained), then it's like 3ms or so to compute. But the most important part is that there is no system call into the graphics pipeline unless it's really needed.

Frankly it all depends on how many things you want to run at the same time. There is only one CPU for everything. That's why to me 6ms seems like a lot for just passing through the rendering stack and showing things on screen.

If this was on the desktop back in the 2000s, that time would have made me switch to retained mode right away. 6ms rendering as game dev is fully unacceptable time because of the other things (like physics) that the game needs to do, which were (are?) usually heavier.

Yes, the problems to solve IMO are anonymity for players (so that sharing player history notes doesn't give an advantage), truly random shuffling(?), and collusion. However, the way I've been thinking, is that unless we have entire rooms that are provably SCIF's, like in every city, these are the real casualties of AI and technology. Games like this just aren't possible to make fair anymore. Screensharing, VR goggles, infinite scams possible with closed source, asymmetrical access to realtime calculations, earbuds/coaching, etc. The game was invented when none of this existed. Therefore, board games will be more what they once were, ways to socialize with trusted peers and low stakes simulations of real world incentive change / pressure / leverage / strategy / dynamics within shared ruleset / game theory etc etc. So we lose the provably fair competition but refocus on the per-living-room benefits of games with friends.

lmdb is great on purposed servers but i suspect it will be a challenge on end user devices. is a file option possible with nostrdb or does it undermine the design entirely?
